Drag cars, at least for home built cars, usually have 2 speed automatics, which is probably why you couldn't shift past 2. Having 2 very long gears in a very high strung engine keeps things torquey and keeps the power down all the way through. For drag you either want lots of very short gears or a couple well tuned long gears.

He was in S3 before though. Some cars in Beam have automatic transmissions that also have a sport sequential mode. If he would have left it in S1 or S2 it would have shifted for him. But he was stuck in the 2 in PRND21
