Cant forget the massive graphics overhaul. Also you need to open the brake valves on the locomotives and train cars when connecting them. Its the small levers at the top of the red hoses. Thats why the brakes were glowing on the train cars, because they were engaged. Thats also why you werent going nearly as fast as you could've. Also the handbrake was in fact off on the second locomotive. You turned it on. When it comes to brakes scrolling down on it releases. Scrolling up applies.

You need to open the brake valves after connecting the red hoses, hence why your brake shoes were glowing near the end. It would appear you are just dragging those cars. Brake valves are where the brake hose connects to each car. Not like this is really a problem given where we're going, but could make the 'splodey nukular train much, much FASTER (which means even more explodey)! Sandbox mode also has a UI that lets you mess with all this in 3rd person.

from how he connected them, since they didn't have air in their auxiliary reservoir, the airbrakes were not applied anyway. The only thing that was holding all those cars were their handbrakes (and that is why he was actually able to pull them)
