Thanks! This was very helpful for upgrading the thermostat in our cabin. I dunno why I got thrown when I saw our old analog thermostat was lacking a bunch of wires. Just a white wire and a black wire, with no labels on the baseplate. But watching your video helped me figure it out.

BRAVO! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I've been going crazy trying to find instructions or assistance in replacing my old mercury switch, two wire thermostat. The instructions with the new digital thermostat just says "mark the wires from the old, and reconnect them in the same positions." Searching websites? Nothing. Calling the "customer service" line provided with the new thermostat? HA! Could barely understand their broken English. Then a search in youtube--- was losing hope, as even THOSE videos were for systems that include fans and vents and A/C and blah-blah-blah. I JUST NEED INFO FOR WHERE TO CONNECT THESE TWO WIRES! Then I came across your video..... a million thanks, TomBackwoods!

THis helps me a lot. My mechanical crappo stat came un-calibrated bad. I got this one and stumbled upon this vid. Mine is 24v, 2 wire heat only. The unit is a propane 20,000 btu unit that gets hung on a wall. I need to maintain 72deg for tuning flutes. I happened to get this very T-stat. Should take me 10 minutes thanks to your tutorial. Thanks !!

Hi Tomsbackwoods Can I upgrade 2 wire thermostat to smart wi fi thermost,
@Exorzist104636 жыл бұрын
I recently changed a thermostat, which we thought worked properly during the winter.. they didnt noticed the difference.. but the guy I helped out says now that he wants the low the temperature.. the thermostat doesnt do it.. I'm wondering what could be wrong? what if the switching of old to new never worked? 2 cables as well..
@TomsBackwoods6 жыл бұрын
It could be. essentially its just a switch. off/on. I would check the thermostat and make sure its working properly

Hi Is this(Honeywell RTH111B Digital) works for 120 VAC? My heater is baseboard heater, I'm not sure about the KW. What do you think?
@TomsBackwoods7 жыл бұрын
Most thermostats are low voltage but I cant recommend anything for you situation. I would consult a professional if thats an option for you.
@Doisjosie7 жыл бұрын
hey Tom, i just replaced my analogue to digital, but curious if with only a 2 wire system (R and W), could i use a smart thermostat? no c wire but honeywell has batteries for thermostat. the cool function will not be used, but can heat the place prior to arrival.. think it would work??
@TomsBackwoods7 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with the smart thermostat. But I don't see any reason it wouldn't work. It would be a timed switch is all. As long as your pilots are lit and its ready to go I would give it a try.

I have an early 2000s Coleman Pop-Up Camper. Nothing special about it. I was having trouble with the original thermostat and ended up taking it out at the end of last summer. Would this thermostat that you used work for me as well do you know? I too have the 2 wires coming out and only need heat. Wasn't sure if the 12v system made a difference....thanks!
@TomsBackwoods6 жыл бұрын
It should work. Mine is a 12 volt system too. Thanks for watching!

what's the model number of the honeywell thermostat you used?
@J-G20236 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you will reply but it’s worth a try. My fiancé and I purchased a 96 jayco fifth wheel and it has the typical jayco air conditioner unit installed in the ceiling with the knob attached to it for either hot or cold. BUT on the wall there is also a Honeywell thermostat that doesn’t seem to turn on..we don’t know what it’s for and we never got a chance to ask the previous owner what it’s there for..do you think there was a swamp cooler connected at some point and that’s what the thermostat is there for? Or do you think it’s connected to the ceiling AC somehow? I hope I don’t sound like an idiot but summer is approaching and although the ceiling AC seems to work okay..it doesn’t have a lot of settings besides hot or cold and it doesn’t turn off like a typical AC unit..it pulls a lot of electricity since it blows air the entire time it’s on! I’m hoping you still check your comments!
@TomsBackwoods6 жыл бұрын
My thermostat does not control my AC unit either. My AC unit has an option for heat but was not included on my model either. My AC is wired into the AC/DC and only works when hooked up to shore power or a generator capable of producing 30 amps. It sounds like you might have a similar set up. Thanks for asking!

Hey there. I'm trying to put a Honeywell Pro 1000 in my camper, but both wires are the same color! Should I hook the aux battery back and borrow a multimeter from a buddy to see which is hot? Or should I just hook them up and if my off is on (and vice versa), then switch them? :)
@TomsBackwoods7 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you have worked through this by now but I probably would have tested with a multi-meter to find hot.
@boorayin27737 жыл бұрын
I did figure it out. Since my thermostat was a heat-only switch, basically, it didn't matter which wire went where...simple off-on. Thanks! :)

@dogs_rule98327 жыл бұрын
can you verify whether your old thermostat ran off 12v DC and not/not off 110v AC? My furnace thermostat is an anlogue that runs the propane furnace and the thermostat uses the 12v DC power.

My thermostat runs off of my furnace which is 12v DC.
