It's rare to see a brickfilm with an edge quite like this, but you pulled it off spectacularly, Harry. Loving your direction here, it feels like you poured a lot of yourself into this one.

An actually impressive, incredible, awe inspiring LEGO animation. Of a BTMI song too?!? This is incredible

This really is an astoundingly impressive video, especially for a brickfilm. I especially didn't expect to see something of this emotional intensity coming from that guy who made those fun yogscast videos back in the day. As such, I'm going to use my A-Level English skills to do an essay on it here in the comments. It really warrants it. Fantastic work Zoot. The animation, while not perfect near the beginning has a lot of character to it and has a lot of great little details in it, like the way that our protagonist looks vacantly off into the distance after getting out of bed. The choice of head and even just the medium chosen really compliments this. The smile instantly feels rueful and artificial, helping to compliment the protagonist's thinly veiled sadness and inner turmoil. The use of lego stop-motion is really played on well here - particularly in the scene where the protagonist is pulled apart and just as easily put back together. In fact, from the moment the protagonist is hit by the car onwards the animation is just phenomenal, some of the most impressive I've seen from a brickfilmer. The use of lighting is also among the best I've seen in any brickfilm. The entirely white backgrounds in much of it don't feel like lazy choices - they feel like a genuine stylistic choice that underscores the feelings of isolation and loneliness. This is emphasised when he flickers in and out of the city and the white space - weirdly he could be seen as being brought closer to society by his accident. In addition, the white light can be interpreted as very intense sunlight, helping to symbolise the pressures affecting the protagonist. This is almost a motif in the video - the idea of physical suffering reflecting emotional trauma. The protagonist's injuries from the bike accident help to mirror what is implied to be a wider emotional breakdown and his interior "wounds" (his loneliness and implied difficulty connecting to the outside world). The cinematography is expert - I particularly like your use of jumpcuts, helping to create impact on every image we see. In particular, the cut between the protagonist's face looking fine and the cut of him with blood on his face highlights his inner struggles and how he hides them from the rest of the world. Just a fantastic music video Zoot. I absolutely adored it! 10/10 This deserves every view it gets and more.

Superb piece of work, full of identity and outstanding visuals (amazing use of the close ups). The final result is really visceral and emotional, which is something very difficult to achieve, but you made it!

Now this right here is something truly special, it's different, original, creative...It's art. Deep meanings in brickfilms are a rare thing, most of them are easily forgettable because they lack meaning, a story or moral, this however will be stuck in my head for a while. I also like the simple set design, it gives the video a nostalgic vibe that I can't describe very well. I hope this short film inspires more people to try out this surreal form of storytelling.

Harry, I've been following your work for over a decade now. This is probably the best, most artistic thing I've seen from you. It makes me want to get back into animating. You've done very good work, and I'm proud. Keep on doing more.

this is spectacular. It feels exactly like what this song evokes in me. I especially love the way the body falls apart over and over again, and those chaotic and emotional shots using other media like yarn, ink, and even your hand were so creative and emotional.

Compelling and impressive. You've not only captured some very raw emotions (which is always an achievement for a brickfilm), but you've successfully depicted the struggle to understand/deal with these feelings in the midst of world that keeps moving on regardless. The imagery works hand-in-hand with the song to create a frenetic, stream of consciousness-style narrative that feels incredibly personal and like it couldn't have been realized in this way by anyone else. Congratulations on creating something very special.

i like the change of camera quality from happy (old and grainy) to absolutley crazy (sharp and fluid animation), although the video may have taken years to make, it almost looks like the quality change was on purpose which in my opinion was a great choice, loved it.

It's been years since I last saw one of your videos, but I got a LEGO stop-frame animation in my recommendations recently and have been watching all the old animations 2007-2010 of all the animators I used to love. Back in 2009 it was the likes of yourself, Forrestfire101, sillypenta, tomjoetwins, etc, that inspired me to start making KZbin videos. Almost ten years later and having completely changed video styles myself about twelve times, it's nice to see you're still making fantastic stuff. I'm currently in uni now, so know exactly how you feel. Nothing is going right, I have no passion for something I used to love, and I'm insanely worried about money all the time. There's a super cool KZbin film by itsamemyleo called 'Like a Dog or a Boat, you tether it', which I can't recommend enough because it covers all that and more in a fun yet completely professional and lovable way. Hope you find your passion again and keep making new things. :)

bruhv this is fantastic wtf this got so little views wtf Very well done Edit: This representation portrayed in the video feels very much like what I continue to go through and feel during this period of my life. I've been forcing myself out of the slump I have been in, which has led to further pain. Rather than submit and continue with what my life had been, I continue to repeat the cycle. The desire to enjoy life again after going through many years of stagnancy is there, and though it feels as if I may not have a route to happiness again I must keep trying or I designate myself to continue to feel this emptiness until I die. I'm not certain if that was the angle you were taking with this video, but it certainly struck a cord with me in that fashion.

Holy moly you are good at recording small details. What kind of monster lens do you have to do those focus bokeh shots?
@Zoot1016 жыл бұрын
The second half of this film (from 1:57 onwards) was shot on a Canon EOS 700D with a Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro lens. Being a macro, it's very good at picking up fine details close up, and its DOF goes very very shallow when focussed on things that only are a few centimetres away. I'd never worked with anything like it before, so experimenting and finding out what it could do was a lot of fun.
@JonBear6 жыл бұрын
Nice setup very good. I want a macro lens now. This really paid off man, the video is great. I imagine having to do stop motion while managing all that is tough. I appreciate your work

Thank you for remembering me ❤️ A few months after making this film, I moved to Japan to work at an animation studio. I left all my LEGO behind, so I can’t make brickfilms anymore. It’s thanks to the brickfilming community and everyone who watched my videos that I was able to do this and go live the dream. I am eternally grateful to everyone who supported my KZbin career.
