Where do you get rid of them? I can only imagine making pennies on the dollar if you're having to ship them.

My wife is telling me to get rid of some big box games because the shelves are overflowing , but I have never even finished 20% of some campaign games and even more are comming because of crowdfunding campaigns. I know it is an addiction and this hobby has so much cool stuff to offer. It is because of video's like this that help me stabilize for not getting more games and looking more critical at my shelves to get some games at the table and sell them after they got the hours of play they deserve. So thank you for the video Alex ❤

It's a challenge no matter what. Either you say no to something you're interested in from the get-go, or you find yourself overwhelmed instead. No matter what, there's a degree of deprivation.

I’m more of a completionist than my husband. He’s good stopping a campaign game once he feels like he has experienced everything a game has to offer. I want to keep pushing until we are done… even if the enjoyment has decreased.
@harmarizeАй бұрын
Im like your husband, I find campaign games generally good about 50-75% of the way through, but by then you experienced almost everything the game offers, and now you are just doing the last few scenarios. If the story is captivating ill just read it. Rather go play something new and be excited again.

I'm so much more like him 🙂 I play games to enjoy them, while I definitely prefer to finish a game that I started, if it starts to feel like work, I'm comfortable saying that I enjoyed myself enough and moving on
@JohnClem56Ай бұрын
I'm on Team @srebme. The only ones I wouldn't finish are ones that I just really don't enjoy or get pulled into after the first couple of times played. Otherwise, I'm enjoying it and I want to experience it all (completionist syndrome). I also have too many campaign games to reasonably play given my game group availability and have stopped buying them no matter how much I want some of them. Didn't get Agemonia but still want it. Same with Elder Scrolls from CTG. Not getting Lands of Evershade even though it looks really good. Maybe will pick one up once I don't have any unfinished ones on the shelf...
@srebme2Ай бұрын
@ Do you feel the same way about legacy games? We are definitely more likely to finish legacy games than campaign games. Maybe because legacy games have more evolution and we feel like there is still more to see
@JohnClem56Ай бұрын
I'm on Team @srebme on this one. I'm definitely more of a completionist and want to play all of a campaign unless I just didn't enjoy it or get pulled into it in the first couple of "missions". But, I've stopped buying new ones since I already have too many to play based on the availability of my game group. Because of that, I didn't back Agemonia, Elder Scrolls, and I'm not going to back Lands of Evershade even though all of those look really interesting to me. Maybe I'll back another campaign game (or pick up one of the above second hand) once I've completed all the ones on my shelf. But I'm old... who knows how many campaign games I've got time left to play! And that goes even more for Legacy games. If I get drawn in during the first couple of scenarios, I always play them through to completion. I don't have as many unplayed Legacy games as campaign games though. The only one currently on my shelf is Pandemic Season 0. Once we start that we'll definitely finish it but will be awhile before we get around to playing it.

Great video, thanks for sharing, it's so good to know I'm not alone. I love campaign games but am dreadful at finishing them. To that end I've made a pledge to myself not to start another one until l've finished an existing one. I'm nearing the end of ISS Vanguard which will leave Middara and Isofarian Guard to go back to complete. Tanares is now painted and ready to start, I'd love to dive into the Gamblers Chest content for KD:M, and games like Core Space, Five Leagues from the Borderlands, League of Dungeoneers and Shadows of Brimstone are always a blast. With Arydia, Malhya and Agemonia coming next year I'm set for years to come for campaign game goodness.

One nice thing about campaign games: once you learn them, you get a lot of value since you play them a bunch. I tend to play them way more than other games, and that’s one reason I prefer them. Makes it worth the purchase.

I just made the decision to get rid of Descent as well. Right now I am keeping ISS Vanguard, Tainted Grail, Valor & Villainy, and Legacy of Yu. Will probably play through Legacy of Yu one full time as I was forced to stop midway through previously and then get rid of it. Made the decision a while back to stop buying campaign games until I complete what I have already and there have been some good ones I have passed up on of late. Great video!

7th Citadel absolutely does not need 7 hour play sessions not sure what you're smoking. Setup and teardown takes a few minutes and the only downside to saving is you lose the revealed cards/tiles previously traveled through.

I am effectively the opposite, I keep all my campaign games, but games that are much shorter that my group just thought were ok I get rid of. I don't get rid of campaign games until their finished. At the same time, I won't get a new campaign game unless I am really sold on it. Like I skipped Oadlin, Evershade, and many others that came out because they didn't seem unique to what I already have in terms of campaign games. I also think a problem you have, is because you have a channel you need to keep up with all the new stuff coming out, and 1 game that takes about 6 months to finish if you play once a week, would push back against that revolving door of games that come in, that you may need to play for the channel. Like for me personally, these are the last type of games to leave, and I rather get rid of 5 normal games.
@BoardGameCoАй бұрын
You're definitely right on that latter part, because I'm constantly keeping up with the new stuff, I only have room for a few campaign games at a time that are staying in the general rotation. It happens, but it happens slowly.
@CheddahSlammerАй бұрын
Just wondering why your getting rid of 7th Citadel and Keeping ISS Vanguard. For me other then Story, their very similar terms of having that filling cabinet system, but personally I feel like 7th Citadel is better. You also have Unsettled, which is also similar theme wise to ISS vanguard but doesn't have that campaign requirement.
@BoardGameCoАй бұрын
That's an excellent question, they definitely do fill similar niches. I think there are two reasons. The first is that I prefer the space theme, as much as I enjoy 7th Citadel... It's a kind of strange world and it doesn't pull me in. The second reason is that I've spent so much time in the ISS vanguard universe, that I'm kind of invested in finding out more about it.

Alex, I know that seldomly you have time to answer comments, but here's hoping that you read this: I wanted to suggest if you could perhaps make a video sort of titled "top 10 campaign games you must play BEFORE buying any other ones" ... sort of like a filter list, like for example, why would anyone play stars of Akarios if they haven't even tried Gloom or Frosthaven? or why would anyone buy Kingdom Death Monster if they haven't played Oathsworn? specially for newcomers into the hubby, so that if someone is going to burn through a ton of cash, at least they spend it on actually good and legendary campaign games , rather than blinged out copy cats of said games from future crowdfunding campaigns.

As someone who owns everything Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition and still have a group who will play it at least once or twice a year. We tried the new Descent and the app killed it for us and it did not make it play the first chapter. I sold it for a loss but at least I tried. 7th Citadel did not work for me. After playing it once I did not want to play it a second time. This is the same for Gloomhaven and Frosthaven, it was once and done for me. Middara my group loves it. I play it with another group.

You know, if you didn't chase after superficially playing every new game only once, you'd have time to enjoy the campaign games you are "struggling" to let go.
@BoardGameCoАй бұрын
There are many of campaign games I've put easily upwards of 50 hours into, in some cases over hundreds of hours. I just can't do that for every game.
@DragonnoxАй бұрын
@@BoardGameCo That doesn't invalidate my point. All the hours reading new rulebooks to play new games that come and go from your collection could be better spent enjoying the games you know you like already. Your whole schtick is whether a game will have resell value, the whole mindset is game in, game out. If you love a game as much as you say you like some of these, make time to play it instead of new stuff you aren't even sure you'll like yet. But each to their own. I guess I am just fed up of all the board game content creators who act like every game is the second coming of Christ, "back this!" "back it!" only to see those games "leaving the collection" soon after. I'm not attacking you personally, I guess I'm making a broader comment about board game content in general. Thanks for letting me vent, at least, no disrespect intended, it's okay if we disagree.
@BoardGameCoАй бұрын
@@Dragonnox Oh I get it, the industry is very much cult of the new. Although I will point out, you're being a little contradictory in your complaints. You comment on how you're fed up with all the "back this, back that" and yet as you yourself point out...I actually concern myself with value....90% of the games I talk about on crowdfunding every week I say aren't worth getting. Before becoming a content creator, I was always interested in trying many many games, but I used to play 75% stuff I already owned and loved, and only 25% the new. As a content creator, this is now my job, that ratio has unfortunately shifted because the interest is always on the new stuff....now I probably play 60% new and 40% the old stuff. I do prefer it the other way around...but I also love that I get to do this for a living, so it's a trade off for sure.
@DragonnoxАй бұрын
@BoardGameCo @BoardGameCo Thanks for the discussion. So you reject 90% of new games every week, which means you recommend 10%. That is still a lot of games. But I get it, it's what gets clicks and likes. As I said, I am not attacking you, it's the way it goes, but I don't have to like it. And again, you are free to spend your time however you like. One thing I do admire about you is you clearly work very hard for your channel.
