Camparison EV ELX200-12P vs. EV ZLX12P

Electro Voice ZLX-15P are probably the best active speakers for club/techno in that price range around 400usd. Ive spent days to find out which ones to buy. Going to buy these. The "final" was with these and the Yamaha DBR-15. The Yamahas are a bit more expensive and they dont have eq presets at the back. So the ZLX are cheaper and have more features. But BOTH EV and Yamaha have better RELIABILITY than equal Mackie and Altos (according to everything i could read and watch on youtube). If you want anything better than the ZLX you must pay a hell lot more, those money should be spent on a active matching subwoofer instead.

Good video. I was familiar with the zlx and the ekx and etx I had used some older ELX or Live X powered stuff before, but didn't realize they remade them with DSP. The old elx line subs and tops seemed to have issues because I've seen several blow. I'm sure they addressed the issue with the new DSP and maybe upgrades to the amp, thermal cooling and limiting. I have 4 ZLX for monitors and a couple EKX for mains and have great experience with them

now that you've had the ELX200's for a while. Do they out perform the ZLX for your band? You mentioned clipping and not enough volume with the zlx. How do you like the ELX speakers now?

Great Vid! I have the ZLX12Ps with a couple of ZXA1Subs and can highly recommend that for some extra umph. I also have the ZXA1 tops but can not really tell the difference between those and the ZLX12P except for the size. Either way you can not go wrong with EV!

Thanks, your video helped me decide on the ELX. My local Guitar Center was like pulling teeth explaining the the salesman I did not want to purchase the Alto brand speakers (who has ever heard of Alto??) and I should not have to give him a reason and why can’t I just listen to the ELXs?? So I order from a place online and got a great deal with free shipping. Should be here in a couple of days.

It's called "profit margin". I'm sure the GC makes more profit on the Alto's in comparison to the EV's...so their gonna push them.

I got absolutely nothing out of this video. When people tune in for a comparison, most likely they want to hear identical input through both speakers to evaluate the SOUND of the music....not the sound of your voice. There are far too many people who put crap videos out on KZbin just to hear themselves talk and stroke their own egos.

Do you know how far can you get from the speaker while being connected to it through blue tooth, without loosing the connecton? I mean, weather it is music that's sounding (zlx) or for the different adjustments you are making (elx).

I used both. They're much more capable of a speaker than the zlx. They have more headroom yes. I push my elx 200 12p for vocals and they don't clip easily, they have a cleaner sound with more oomph. Maybe not as crisp as the zlx but you don't need that when the elx actually gets louder and cleaner and also has crispiness. They run a lot cooler than the zlx12p. You can always bring back the mid and high a bit on the eq in the back but I like to leave them on 0db. They have components from the ekx series in these elx speakers (using an ekx woofer). Between the 2 even though zlx may do just fine, I'd spend the few extra dollars and get the elx. It's worth the extra headroom and quality in terms of components and sonic quality.

Nvm it's super easy you just link one with bluetooth and run a cord from the bluetooth connected speaker to the other speaker.

hey i use the zlx for djing. i love em all except for the limiting . i am looking at the elx200p 18" sub. i heard it today at guitar center and it was heard next to the qsc kw181 and it was close except the qsc got a tad deeper. big difference in price tho. what setting are you using for the zlx?

I would really apreciate an audio comparison between these two speakers please or at least you can tell us your opinion! Is ELX200 better sounding or not? Is it loud enough comparing with the ZLX? So I just recieved these a few days ago and i think they sound great! I did play them side by side next to the ZLX's. The elx200's do sound better to me. I will be using them live with my band in a couple weeks so I will update after that about volume levels on the elx200 compared to the zlx. However, the elx200 claim 130db vs the zlx claimed 125db. So they definitely should be louder.

I wonder what was behind the design decisions to make the tops so you CAN'T stack them. Seems like they do not want you stacking them. Maybe some well intention safety factor, yet makes it harder to deal with the product, or the risk worse because people got to stack things sometimes. OR: they did it on purpose, so they can sell you an additional product, the wedge leveler accessory, so you can stack the speakers for only $79.99 each lol. We're on to you corporations!!! haha Seriously though the ELX200's are amazing. Don't skimp when it comes to PA speakers. Worth every penny. I am using 2 of them (with one ELX200-18SP sub)as my mains PA and FRFR bass rig, and FRFR guitar rig. I have achieved amp modeling nirvana.

Nah you can’t Bluetooth stream, you can just pair it for volume control and we from your phone. You can buy a rca adapter to hook it up to your phone though.

Just bought new ELX200P-12" sub. Using it w 2x Alto 212TS+15" Alto powered sub+powered tops+2x10" Altos as floor monitors. Cajon player liked my new 12" sub sound better than his 15" Alto sub. Like to try EV-12" tops next to have DSP in mains & sub. But Altos sound fine w the new EV sub, do far.

Speakers are all about sound. Better specs, features, or different brands don't mean anything if the sound isn't any better. So a video comparing sound is the only way to determine the better speaker. Big difference in the price of these speakers. $349 vs $599. You can buy 2 of the ZLX for $100 more and get true stereo.

So the ELX speakers cost more than the ZLX, but the ZLX has a higher RMS output(according to specs). Very strange. Old EV speakers used to be crap. They have come a long way. But I don't understand why the cheaper speakers have higher wattage? Weird.

Where did you read the specs? Elx have 1200 watts compared to 1000 on the zlx spl on elx is 130 compared to 126 on zlx

Reading the fine print in my ELX-200 12P, it is only 1200W max IF you couple it with another ELX-200 12P. So they are 600W max per speaker, not 1200W per speaker. Not complaining. But may explain your clipping issue thinking you were getting more power than you thought.
