In mild cases of DAI, a person may have symptoms that mimic concussion symptoms. And will not have a loss of consciousness. After a hit to the side of my head a scan 8 months later showed white matter in the classic areas of a DAI. Hindbrain findings were subtle and all unilateral. Mostly likely why I didn't lose consciousness. Drs would not believe I had a TBI but dx a demyelinating disease. I had nausea, dizziness, oscillopsia (spinning eye), and more within days to a wk of the accident/ blunt trauma. They said that was too long after the accident. Heartbreaking. No one want a TBI but then to be denied you never had one b/c you didn't fit the classic symptom of losing consciousness.
