Billy and I have one thing in common, neither of us know anything about diseases. As a public health worker in a preparedness role, I know some things, but really it is what I learn from this channel and what medical doctors and epidemiologists divulge. What I do know is that the WHO is at least partly responsible for the mess the US got in, so I am reluctant to agree with Billy if his strategy is to use the WHO in any capacity. If your data is low-quality, or your assumptions are wrong or inaccurate, your models aren't worth anything. I'm not an expert in epidemiology, but my understanding is that a real pandemic is a highly complex system and it's really difficult to make accurate measurements, so I would doubt we would ever reach the point where we can model and predict the spread of a virus accurately with mathematical models. In my view it's preposterous that Mr. Gates goes around pontificating on these matters, since I doubt he's well educated in the fields of either healthcare, epidemiology or mathematical modelling. He's not even a computer engineer as far as I know. He's a business man whose business started when he bought someone else's software really cheap and sold it to IBM with a higher price tag. So, unless he has devoted his free time to properly studying these topics at an academic/university level, I don't think he even starts to qualify to speak on these issues the way he does.

Event 201 is archaic, I'm a nurse and an Emergency Manager, we do All Hazard Exercises all the time, so that little 201 thing was what me and thousands involved in Planning for catastrophic events have known all along, all the plans. from community, county, state and federal levels were in place, we have exercised those plans with communities and jurisdictions and other countries....we just never exercised for an administration/ government that would throw away,not fund and would fire the experts in charge of carrying out the logistics involved in a pandemic. You have to go to the Obama era and see who was on the committee on pandemic response, I can assure you they were not ophthalmologists. They were all fired the moment the new administration came in, and the pandemic plans, along with the Biological Weapons Response were destroyed.....because "Well that could never haplen"----

It is interesting to see that this book "How to prevent the next pandemic" is written not by a doctor, but a person with no higher education, a dropped out from Harvard University. How come it is not a misinformation? What kind of expertise Mr. Gates has in the fields of microbiology, immunology, bacteriology , etc? No way I am going to buy it.

As an undergraduate, he solved one of the hardest unsolved problems in mathematics. His professor called him the smartest man he'd ever met. He has access to leading experts in every field. He's been working on solving global problems for decades. If you think a piece of paper matters more than that, I don't know why. Don't we want people who can solve real problems in the real world to be working on this stuff, not academics or politicians?
