Love the simplicity of your concept, you should make a lot of holes of about 2" in the pieces of wood under the mattress so it reduced weight and your mattress gets better ventilation.

Rookie first-timer here. Seen a lot of these vids and this one is one of the betters. Never would have thought about extending one side of the bed longer, to keep driver's side intact for a quick "get up and go." The cut-away for the cooler was also something most of us would not have thought to do.

I would switch the positions of the yeti and the stove because while you probably won't need to access your stove lying down (now under your side of the bed), it would be nice to be able to reach into the yeti (now next to your head instead of under it) to grab a beer without getting up. I'm lazy like that. :)

@kennedycarey8986 жыл бұрын
I did a mix of both. I knew I wanted a stove, cooler, battery, etc.... So I looked into the different kinds and sizes and then figured out what would likely work best. Then once I made the purchases I made the final cuts and measurements based off of the exact sizes and layouts of the items.

I'd like to covert my Fit to something similar in order to take him out camping - or when kids get older wifey and I can drop kids at grandmas house and take off for a weekend lol. Whether you have the time-in experience of a true craftsman or not, you are crafty, handy, and dang smart about using what happened got. Thinking forward and broadly, and solving your bugaboo about permanence versus temporary installation and built a stable removable puzzle. Fantastic! And the skate bearing drawer...(awe)...now, that's usin' yer noodle! You've got good spatial and abstract reasoning, and if you've got fluid thinkability you've got it all, baby!

Very well designed and executed. You did a good job avoiding the obvious bulk and overweighting of these other folks packing 100 pounds of wood in their small SUV. I still think a mattress with a large tablet, some stackable crates (can be used as table as well), soft mesh nets on the sides and roof and soft organizing bags is the way to maximize space in a small SUV rather than a platform/drawers system more suited to larger vehicles or vans. In fact, your system would be perfect if adapted to a larger van.
@nomadicbydesign06 жыл бұрын
Excellent design, thank you for making this video! I don't have my original Celica campercar anymore but I am planning to get another one soon. What size vehicle would you recommend, and what type is yours? Have you ever tried leaving out the second half of the bed (middle passenger side) and using that area for a bathroom area (porta potti or such)? I am wracking my brain as to how to attach a roll down curtain off the rear lift door so that it creates a privacy room and protection from insects when cooking, instead of the wraparound tent that I used last time. Have you considered that at all?
@kennedycarey8986 жыл бұрын
This is a 2012 Honda CRV. It's a relatively small space to build out a camper for but I made it work! I've seen many builds where they leave out one half for storage, shelves, cooking, etc... but I wanted to make sure I could sleep 2 people. Most of my travel is done with a partner. I have plans to add some type of awning/tent type system that extends out from the roof over the back of the car to cook and hang while raining. Haven't done it yet. Ill be sure to make an updated video once I do.

Thank you so much for sharing! Probably a stupid question, but I couldn’t tell if you took the back seats out, or if they are just in the down position, with the head rests off? If they are out, are the easy enough to put in and out? Thanks for any direction on that!
@kennedycarey8984 жыл бұрын
I designed it so that I could keep the back seats in if I wanted to (folded down with the headrest on still) however if you take them out you get more storage space underneath. I normally keep them out or have just the single back seat in when needed. They are bolted to the floor and that accesss is covered with a plastic piece. The first time you do it may take 15-20 minutes just to figure it out but once you've done it once or twice you can easily put it in and out in 5 minutes
