Camping and Exploring for Ancient Ruins in Comb Ridge - Utah

On this two day adventure we went exploring in Comb Ridge, Utah for ancient ruins and petroglyphs! We didn't find many petroglyphs, but we did find lots of ruins! We also tried to find Jeff's drone, which he lost in Lower Mule Canyon.

This was an open exploration type of trip, meaning, we just looked at a map or satellite photos and said "what's over there?" and we just went over there to explore. We hope you enjoyed this video. There is lots more to come!

Comb Ridge is an amazing area. Literally every draw and hollow has a ruin in it. Some incredible rock art, too. Procession Panel is my favorite.

That whole Cedar Mesa/Bears Ear region is incredible, would have loved to seen it at it's population peak, Comb Ridge is an amazing landmark on satellite views...Always enjoy videos from that region...

Was out there a couple of years ago and spent just a few days hiking the canyons along the ridge. Best hiking I've done in a long time and can't wait to get out there again!.....:-)

I've spent a lot of time at the Combs & Butler wash area. Beautiful spot, much stuff to see; ruins, caves & Fantastic scenery! So glad I live in Utah!! Love your videos 💗 Thank you!

Looks like you guys weren't that far from where I used to live in Page, AZ... I liked the large cave you visited. The corn looked like they just up and left it there! I got to do a hike in Sedona, AZ, where archeologists had just found new ruins with corn cobs still stuck in the walls of the buildings. Cool stuff!

I know I’m a bit late but maybe it will still work ,, if you’re drone was a DJI that has up to date firmware it has a feature called find my drone and from personal experience I can tell you it works .. hope the info helps …. Keep up the awesome videos/ history record ..

Fascinating. So many questions. Why did people settle at such sites, how did they live, who were they? Did they hunt or gather food or cultivate? I can imagine their children laughing and playing and scampering about on those cliffs. I’m from the UK, but on a trip to NM last year, I was overwhelmed by the vast openness, massive skies and breathtaking terrain. Thank you for sharing your wonderful explorations.

Have you ever camped in any of the ruins? Naturally being careful not to leave anything but footprints and take nothing but pictures. It would be interesting to see the shelter from cold and rain (I’m writing from 2023 where Burning Man was thoroughly drowned !).

@@brandonpettit-gr9ly , no, I didn't come here to complain, I follow this channel. This time I commented about flying a drone in this area filled with hikers. On Cedar Mesa, there are restricted areas for drones for good reasons. In general, take off and landing of a UAS is prohibited in lands administered by the National Parks Service and in Wilderness areas administered by a variety of federal agencies such as the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, those restrictions are in place because drones are a nuisance to wildlife and people looking for a peaceful experience. If someone flew a drone every Sunday afternoon over your backyard, filming your kids and other members of your family, you wouldn't like it. The popular wilderness areas are the backyards of many of us and having drones above our heads is no fun. I agree: live and let live.

I’m out hiking every weekend all across my state and I can honestly say I’ve only encountered one drone and guess what it wasn’t a bother. Now if people are harassing other people or wildlife. Yes I agree. But just being a Karen is not a reason to spit off a bunch of rules. I’m certified and a license flyer, yes you are correct there are no fly zones. But again that is because someone like you made a fuss an ruined it for the respectful flyers. But this is America your entitled to you opinion and so am I. So good on you…

I am a world mountaineer and hiker, I have been to the highest mountains of Europe, crossed deserts in Africa and spent years exploring jungles in Asia. I have done this solo and with expeditions. I lived in Moab for 18 years. I had the good fortune to be taught by old timers about how to be in the desert quietly and respectfully. There was a code of ethics that the recent influx of hikers are choosing to ignore. And, yes, I have had drones just above my head many times.

Guess what these public lands are OUR lands just as much as they are yours. You do not and should not dictate what is good for me or anyone else. I spend countless hours in Moab, the swell and fremont. I have never seen a drone unless there is a big event (Moab). but people like you do not go to the events so it shouldn't bother you. One way to know how old the ruins aer is ti take a small piece of wood from the mortar or Adobe & have it carbon dated. It would not disturb the site at all. You just need a sliver.
