We go camping and fishing high up in the mountains of Utah. Unfortunately, the top of a mountain isn't a great place to be when there's lightning all around you.

When in my RV trailer I now carry a 4ft copper 5/8" rod and a pair of jumper cables..pound the copper rod into the ground and clamp the battery jumper to the rod and the other cable end to a bolt on the trailer. My trailer gets hit by lightning it will be grounded just like my house. I learn the hard way. Lightning stuck our electric transformer and the electricity travel to my rv, no ground rod...$7800 electrical damage.

Safer in the car, not because it's higher, but because the car is a Faraday Cage. "Faraday cages are also used to protect people and equipment against electric currents such as lightning strikes and electrostatic discharges, because the cage conducts electrical current around the outside of the enclosed space and none passes through the interior."

Great video! Is there something you can add to your tent to avoid the bottom section getting wet from rain water trickling in especially if you’re on a slanted surface? I love all the space you have though and the bedding looks comfortable. You’re a great cook too! Those sandwiches looked amazing!!
@2withnature
@2withnature 2 ай бұрын
Thanks! They don't make something like that specifically for this tent, but you could always put a tarp down for that. It is super comfortable camping with this setup though. And they were delicious, thinking about it now is making me crave them again!
@Ninety9924
@Ninety9924 27 күн бұрын
@@2withnature A good tent should be water-proofed in all the seams. A tarp or a ground cover/foot print is mainly to protect the bottom from being scratched and/or punctured by the ground. The foot print made specifically for the tent is usually the same size, if not slightly smaller than the bottom of the tent to prevent water from accumulating there. Sitting in a puddle of water will eventually causes the water to get in no matter how good the initial water-proofing is.

The car protects you because it is made of metal, and if hit by lightning, it works like a "Faraday cage", meaning that the electric charge will be on the OUTSIDE of the shell. So it was a good decision to hide in the car, but the tires had absolutely nothing to do with it ...

Lightening can strike from 3 to 15 miles away from a storm meaning if you hear thunder your close enough to get struck by lightening. I live in Florida 😊

I didn't realize it could hit from that far away. Next time we're in a situation like this we're just getting out real quick

It was a lot, we definitely overpaid for some of it. We planned on using it a ton though so that somewhat justified it for us. The two of us have slept in the RTT for somewhere between 65 and 75 nights since we got it just over a year ago, so comfort was important when we created our setup. We're not going to make many camping videos with it though. Thanks for watching!

Yeah when we got in the truck I started reading about lightning hitting vehicles and it sounds like a vehicle is very safe. So we were able to relax after that.
