Camping In The Cederberg!

We head to the Cederberg Conservancy, a couple of hours outside of Cape Town and have the Sanddrif campsite to ourselves. This place is a great, affordable and easy weekend getaway with your family or loved one!

After getting a new tent, we packed up all of our camping gear and headed to the heart of the Cederberg Mountains to have an outdoors camping adventure in the middle of Cape Town's Winter. This is what we got up to.

The seams on canvas tents arent inherently waterproof. The thread needs to expand before it becomes fully waterproof. Best to set it up in your garden & hose it down (or on a rainy day), let it dry and repeat a few times. Each time checking inside and putting beeswax on wherever the seams leak. This is what I experienced, might be different from different manufacturers

There is wildlife there, but none shown on the video. There are a few Cape Mountain Leopards, however sightings of them are very rare, some antelope and smaller wildlife such as genets etc. :)

They each have their perks, but if you're one spot for a long time & using the car everyday, a ground tent is definitely much better!

World-class and amazing area! I know it like the back-of-my-hand! I have climbed Sneeuberg and seen Table Mountain in the distance, been to the Maltese Cross, the Wolfberg Arches and slept in the Wolfberg Cave. I have stayed at the original Sanddrif homestead and swum in the feezing waters. I knew the owner, "Wit" Andries Nieuwoud and his son, Rensie and wife Olive, who used to run the cabins (I remember staying in "The Willow" many times!) and campsites on their farm, Kromrivier, as well as the fresh bread and anything-else-which-you-might-need shop at the old homestead. What beautiful people and what wonderful memories! According to legend, I am the very first person to ride a motorbike (Honda 750 classic) down the final and steep pass to the farm, in mid-winter, and over 10cm of solid ice on that notorious curve on final approach! It was so cold that we could not even light a fire, so I drained some petrol from my motorkbike tank! On one occasion, when my brother and sister-in-law came with us to our favourite getaway, Olive told us that they were full booked, but that they would like us to stay in the new homestead, which we accepted with glee! What a privilege that was! The only "problem" was that at night, the goats used to clamber noisily onto their roof, just outside the home! Thank you, Nicole, for refreshing our wonderful memories! I am now eighty years young, still drive my beautiful Land Rover Discovery, and still plan to visit the Cederberg again! You have twisted my arm, honey!

The audio tweaked out, sometimes it happens with Premiere Pro when I export & it links random audio clips to bits of video. Usually I'd overlook it, but there were too many errors for it not to be changed :/
