I remember canvas tents, and my dad tying tarps o the trees so we wouldn't get wet when it rained. I remember him pumping up the stove, and getting a pot of water on it for coffee. Some nights we froze our asses off, and would all gather around the fire. Warm up your back and then your front. Keep moving the chairs around so you aren't the one who gets the smoke. Now, my 87 yo mother has 40' trailer with air conditioning and satellite TV, lol.

I watched someone test an inflatable tent. They have a fundamental design flaw. Air volume changes at different temperatures. As the evening cools, your tent deflates. A bit of wind, and the tent folds over. Even without any holes, it just didn’t work. Even if they overcame those issues, if your tent gets a tiny hole in it, you’re without a tent. A spark from the fire, a pin from clothing, it’s just too easy to get little holes in those things. If your air mattress deflates, you have an uncomfortable night. If your tent deflates, it’s a nightmare.

Except that airtents are already a commonplace thing. Pressure is such that temperature makes no difference. The tent can usually survive one or more leaks and your poles can't break in the wind. Also repairing a leak is no harder than repairing a flat on a bicycle.

I have camped since before i was born {{ nothing weird, mother was pregnant with me loll }}. To say i love the outdoors is a massive understatement. I love survival skills, camping, hunting, tracking, fishing, shooting {{ Just targets for many years now ;) }}, foraging etc etc. But, you can't beat lying there listening to the rain dance on your tent as you drift off to sleep. Then get up to a sunny morning creating the most amazing smells as it dries out the wet ferns, nettles and shrubs etc. I would love to be a guinea pig for new inventions used outdoors. I find it sad that so many kids don't get to experience the simple beauty of nature and the most natural things life has to offer in this age of technology. I do believe they can be used to benefit one another, when paired properly. Happy camping peeps 😁

Yes a very good point! Also up to 90 nights in a motel. But rich wealthy people can set up a $9,000 ‘tent’ on an artificial astro turf grass floor living room, “inside” a large mansion house for simulated camping, dry & warm, near the luxury bathroom & personal chef meals, and watch the big screen TV through the ‘tents’ zipper entry door from a sleeping bag or lawn chair. No danger of bear attacks either!

Imo the AC has its places. I can see one for my semi as a backup (nothing like trying to sleep in a metal box when its 110 outside) or to take the edge off in a disaster situation where people entirely unprepared for long term camping are thrown into it after losing everything. Most of that other stuff was just crap though. Only thing worth money may be that modular tent setup. I can see that being useful in several situations if not nessesarily more practical then other solutions.

My parents took me to Blue Mesa one weekend. We had a simple tent that we put down on pine needles near the water. I was on a slight incline, so my 90 pound body would slowly slide down the floor overnight. Man, those bacon and eggs in the morning were good. ... camping for all. : )

I can't see how the igloo tent would keep you warm as it sprays water which freezes into ice and ice is a terrible insulator. Snow is great so would work in a snow fall or you could just carefully shovel snow on it.
@tmurphy0919
@tmurphy0919 Жыл бұрын
Number one, water freezes into both ice and snow. Snowflakes are individual ice crystals. A still body of water will turn to ice while aerosolized water will turn to snow if the air is cold enough. That's how snow making machines work. Number two, solid ice insulates just fine depending on how much air is entrapped and you aren't right up against the ice.

I'd like someone to set up motion sensitive video cameras all around one of those electric tents, then put some raw steak inside and leave. Love to see the footage the next day because I feel certain that the shock would anger the bear, and the scent of food would only encourage them to keep coming. They would swat or crash into the tent - and that is even just getting away from the charge - so I doubt the tent would be standing long. I don't think it would take much to break through it, and then the steak would be readily consumed. We humans are just bigger steaks to them, so they would still have a feast.

Wow! This video has everything! I've never had a sleeping pad that can stay inflated all night, let alone a whole tent that inflates. With the products in this video, I could wake up in the morning with the deflated tent holding me nice and tight and Soggy and with that electric fencer attached to the tent man that oughta be a lot of fun to wake up to. How hard do you have to search for the most expensive total crap to put into your videos? They never disappoint. I always get a good laugh out of it. And realistically what the hell is an electric fencer going to do to a bear? Any kind of animal that has any decent hair or wool just laugh at electric fences
@rurintojas
@rurintojas Жыл бұрын
Meanwhile I do agree with pretty much everything you said, but when it comes to sleeping pads.. you clearly never had a good one. People that actually does hiking, expeditions, mountaineer and etc always use either Thermarest or Sea to Summit. I have both, but I love my sea to summit ether light xt insulated sleeping pad, never ever it deflated on me with R rating over 6 you can use it in freezing winter too. Serious bit of kit that comes at the price but totally worth it. But yeah all these things in this video are basically gimmicks to a people that have no idea what are they doing outdoors

I've been camping since I was a child, but never slept on an inflatable mattress, even in winter. They are simply too heavy and bulky to carry (and, realistically speaking, you need a pump as well)in the wilderness with extra clothing, crampons, ice axe, food & (safe to drink) water, fuel (more than summer for warm drinks), light and tent.
@cyflym11

Well hairy ponies certainly respect electric fences so why not a bear? He's likely to poke his nose in first to see what it is and that will surely hurt. I've been put off air tents. I've seen a couple on campsites looking all lop sided because the owners have gone out for the day, the weather has turned warm and the air has expanded in the beams and split them. You have to remember to let air out if it's hot which is not ideal in our changeable British climate.
@basquo2
@basquo2 Жыл бұрын
@@cyflym11 quite a bit of difference between horses and bears as far as hair and toughness. Even most goats don't respect an electric fence. And sheep... It's totally worthless against them unless they were shorn that week. If a bear wants in, he's going to do it. An animal like that might hesitate if it does get their nose, but then they will just put their head down and get on with it.
