Another superb video. Telling it like it is and not sugar coating it. Great stuff. The crowds were too much for me.

We're currently at Camping Jungfrau - leaving tomorrow. It's very very busy but in an incredible location. We hiked to Murren and Gimmelwald today, super hike at the end of the valley.

You were following us! We had 2 nights in Interlaken at Camping Alpenblick (would have been longer if not an International Music Festival at the weekend and full) Tip get an ACSI card, very reasonable out of high season. We had bikes with us and to be honest were stunned at the cable car/lift/train prices for the attractions in the area so used our bikes. Rode round the lake and swam in it after. We had pretty bad weather too! Then onto Lauterbrunnen without a plan, we stayed at Camping Breithorn Stechelberg for 4 nights the week before you and were so glad we did. Great campsite and 10 minutes on bike path into town on bikes. Given the weather and the shock at the prices for the top of the world we did our own thing. Campsite much quieter, great shop and owners, pitch looking over waterfalls. Less than £30 a night too. We cycled up to Murren on traffic free route, hardly saw a soul even though Lauterbrunnen was always heaving. Looped round to the top of the valley. To be honest we thought we would regret not forking out the cash but now I'm so glad we didn't. Who wants crowds in the mountains? I presumed it would be an efficient operation but very crowded given the crowds in town. We had stocked up at Lidl in Interlaken which were very reasonable prices and just had a couple beers/coffee out in mountains. We walked up to the waterfall too you featured and did the Trümmelbachfälle as our only paid attraction, very reasonable price SF 15 each. I think we judged it well as waited for a storm to pass and got there quite late in afternoon when rain let up and most buses had gone. so it wasn't too busy. the following day we drove to Grindelwald and rode our mountainbikes up to the snowline through the village. We found the "attractions" were daft prices, not even a simple uplift on a chairlift at a reasonable price, same as a full day pass for all the lifts in the winter. Loads of downhill scooter type things whizzed past, they had paid over SF100 with cable car. Another great day and our v expensive lunch was still far far less than going with the crowds. Will be interesting to see what you thought of Bodensee, which is where we then went travelling on from Grindelwald on a very stormy day! We will definitely go back, think we did quite well for our first Swiss experience. Camping Gohren is by far the most money we have ever spent on a site and was awful value for money. The whole area is high season from early June, and full so we struggled. Wonder if same for you! Thank you for the detailed video.

I was lucky enough to camp in Lauterbrunnen before the site became so big and Jungfrau so busy. Waking up to the sound of the waterfall and opening the tent zip to see the mountains was an experience I will never forget.

Nice review! We have returned about a week ago from 20 days of traveling around Switzerland (Grand Tour of Switserland) and also stayed at the Junkfrau campsite in Lauterbrunnen. We had beautiful weather (actually all days of our trip) and found Lauterbrunnen indeed touristy but pleasant. About the Jungfraubahn up to Jungfraujoch: We had read some reviews before and were a bit shocked, which made us decide not to do this tour. What you now show and say about the Jungfraujoch confirms to us that we made the right choice: a burden of a journey and once at the top, it is beeing chased through it just like cattle. We previously had a price drawn up for us (two adults and two children): almost 800 euros! No, there are other excursions to do from Lauterbrunnen such as taking the train to Wengen and then the cable car to Männlichen; For a mere 5 francs more per person you can stand on top of the gondola instead of in it: a great view! In Männlichen you will experience the Kings Walk for a beautiful view of the Jungfrau but also Jungfraujoch. Also: from Lauterbrunnen the train to Mürren (very pleasant mountain village) and then the cable car Mürren - Birg - Schilthorn to visit Piz Gloria: beautiful trip with constantly stunning views. By the way, a week later during our Grand Tour we were on the other side of the mountain range with the Jungfrau and took the cable car Bettmerhorn - Aletsch Glacier (not even that expensive: 120 euros for the four of us) and also saw the Jungfrau + about one of the most breathtaking views we ever saw. It was a great pleasure, also on the terrace of the small cafe with local beer and a tasty chacuterie board. So, I guess the tourist attraction Junkfaujoch is overpriced and unfortunately - in my opinion - not even worth it because there is no chance for some mental freedom and piece of mind. I'm glad I did the other excursions. Switzerland was a first time for us and we really enjoyed it: we will definitely come back here. Keep those good reviews coming.

Well that has sparked a few childhood memories! We had a few hours at the summit of the Jungfrau in 1981/82! There were lots of spare seats on the train & barely anyone at the top! My how times change! 😮 We were based in Interlaken for 10 days..... Grindelwald was my favourite place ❤

Just back from camping Jungfrau last week...mental packed and not at all as pleasant as when you were there 🙈 not a blade of grass spare lol. So glad we decided to do the shilthorn from Lautenbrunnen rather than the Jungfraujoch...I can only imagine how bad it wd of been in peak summer. I definitely would recommend the shilthorn..the James bond exhibition was great as the 1968 film was shot up there.

We did almost the exact journey, in reverse, from Jungfrau to Como 2 years ago in August. After Switzerland, Como looked distinctly average. Also went up the Jungfrau (we took the cable car section going up and the train going down 😊) We also took the early morning first trip up and it was dead quiet, so were lucky. It was before the Chinese started travelling again though, so probably helped. We stayed in a campsite at Wilderswil and used the free trains available for campsite visitors to get everywhere.

I went on the Jungfraujoch express in 2004. It was really great and not busy. It seems it has got busier in the last 20 years and the exchange rate has got much worse.

Thanks for the video and your insights. Some really helpful comments on here in terms of alternatives in the region. For me, campervanning is about getting away from the crowds! Looks like Lauterbrunnen and the Jungfrau can be added to the increasingly long list of places blighted by over-tourism. 😔

Hi just subscribed to your channel best camper video by a mile that I've seen so far, and I've watched loads, however to be fair it is probably the the most scenic place in Europe, but you've still did the video and activitys extremely well, how much a night was it to stay on the campsite.

The CHF is so strong as a currency, currently near 1:1 with GBP, which sadly makes Switzerland so expensive, when I went up the Jungfrau in 2008, it was expensive then and the exchange rate then was 2.5 CHF to the GBP., it was busy then, but nothing like the crowds you experienced. The Eiger cable car looks great, they were just starting to build it back in 2015 when I last visited the area, however it has greatly increased the capacity of people going to the top of Jungfrau and the main transit station looks now to be Eigergletscher rather than Kleine Scheidegg where the trains use to run direct from. Think the area has been heavily marketed, which looks to have been too successful and the attraction can no longer cater for the volume of visitors which makes what should be a once in a lifetime experience very stressful. I hope to visit the area in2025, but won’t be doing the Jungfrau, plenty of other areas to explore and lovely walks where you soon loose the crowds, you won’t get a tour group doing a good few mile hike😂. Does the train still stop on the way up and allow you off to look out of the viewing window in the north face of the Eiger, whilst the down train goes past. Loving this series of videos of your European tour, can’t wait to see where your next stop is.

I was at the Jungfrau last year mid-week at the beginning of October and it's not that there weren't any other tourists there but nothing like what you've experienced. As you have discovered, the Swiss push ahead to fill any gaps; queuing is not part of their culture 😂.

We stayed 3 nights in late June 2024. We had a slightly bigger pitch than standard, and paid 172.50CHF. That included tourist tax, EHU, 2 adults. You could only stay on the more basic pitches on shorter stays, staying on the terraces was for longer stays, and were slightly more expensive too.

Unfortunately Switzerland in general and the Interlaken area has become a no-go area since the release of the Netflix series ‘crash landing in romance’. Basically avoid any place where filming for the series has happened. Any bit of research would have told you not to go up the Jungfrau. It’s a tatty version of Blackpool with overwhelming crowds. Much better to go to Kleine Scheidegg and walk the eiger trail or down from the Lauberhorn. Better views without the hordes. Also stay at the ASCI site in Interlaken. Free bus into town for the trains. Cross the road to the lake. My other bit of advice is not to believe what clueless you-tubers put up (we know who they are) and do some proper planning and go to places they haven’t bothered to find. At least you were honest about it which is strange phenomenon on vanlife videos.

Pretty much agree with this, most tour groups don’t stray very far from the top of the cable car. Go for a short hike and you will quickly escape the crowds Grütschalp to Almendhubel is a nice little walk with stunning views, did it with my kids hardly saw anybody until the end of the walk. Eiger trail down to Brandegg nice walk with some great glacial features to see.
