Tip: To easily check the charger you’re going to on a trip always check the PlugShare app as it’ll have all the info as well as community sourced pics of the charger so you know what to expect. I obviously didn’t do this, but will going forward. //TESLA REFERRAL PROGRAM: Support my channel and get up to $2000 off your purchase, plus 3 free months of Supercharging and FSD Supervised by using my link when buying your Tesla that delivers by December 31, 2024: ts.la/bryan62838

You stopped at the West Walker River from Lake Topaz. The East Walker River comes from Bridgeport CA reservoir. Both come together and end up in Walker Lake you drove by. You also missed the wild rams that cross the road to get water from Walker Lake then back up mountain to sleep. Hundreds of them cross the road.

Wow! Amazing drone scenery of Lake Tahoe. You are living the life Bryan! Enjoying this adventure, it feels like I am on it right there with you. I heard the newer model Y's have the bio-defense air filter feature built in. Looks like that may come in handy where the wild fires are.

To eliminate the windshield glare for your camera, use a black velvet cloth draped over your dash. This is what EV Dave uses in his Tesla Model Y videos. He explained that in one of his recent videos on his trip from WY to NC.

I took this same route only about 3 weeks before you in my SR+! Though I had an extra charging stop between Beatty and Hawthorne. Crazy to see what is basically my vacation but from someone else's perspective. That Supercharger cable in Hawthorne was also twisted when I went through. I stayed at Harrah's - I got a room for about $200, single night. Unfortunately i got there just past sunset (I started from the Grand Canyon so that's something) and I was only staying the one night so I didn't get to see the beautiful lake sunset or do any activities, really. Lake was beautiful looking in the morning at least.

Yeah I really loved the lake. If I meet up with people next time I'd love to rent a boat there and/or rent a cabin on the water to really experience Lake Tahoe. I imagine it's pricey, but that's probably the best way to do it. Oh and since you took the same route, did you see the donkeys in Beatty? It's a fun drive during the day, but I'd prefer not to do it again at night. Thanks for watching!

Another nice road trip video! You ended this with pulling into Vegas at probably 2 or 3AM. Where do you park or camp at that point? Get a hotel for a few hours? Or maybe you still have friends where you can crash? The supercharger design where you pull in, rather than back in, would be good for places where people ICE the stalls. It looks like even if somebody parked in a stall, you could still maneuver your car behind them so that you could still charge.
@bryanhauer

Thanks. I have comps at all the casinos so never have to pay when I’m here, but also have friends here as well. Good point on the supercharger design. I’ve only seen two cars ICE so doesn’t happen too often luckily.

Another good one Bryan, thanks for taking us along. Can’t wait to get my model Y (mine currently on delay according to tesla for 7 months!) but gives me insight regarding charging, stealth sleeping etc. (How many watt hours is yours using having that roof cargo?) and how much drain on camping mode overnight? ) thx!!

Thank you 🙏 Usually around 400 wh so not great. I lose about 25% range with the cargo box. As for Camp Mode. You’ll see in some of the other camping videos I mention it uses just less than 1% per hour and that’s in extreme temps like Moab, UT during the summer. If temps are closer to your desired range like this time of year it’s less. Thanks again for watching!

I absolutely love watching your videos man. It gives me inside info on how it's like to do a road trip on a Tesla Y. The car hasn't been released here in Australia yet and I am excited to have mine probably some time next year. I noticed your channel does not show up when searching Tesla Model Y on YT or maybe you're too far off the top of results. Such a shame because you have a great content. Maybe try uploading more frequently?

Thanks so much, Erwin! I really appreciate that. The fact that someone in Australia (somewhere I've always wanted to visit) watches my videos and enjoys them is just... so cool. I have some really fun trips coming up so stay tuned. Hopefully my channel starts showing up a bit more in search, but I think that just takes time as I'm fairly new. Anyways... thanks for the kind words and for watching 😀

Hi Roy - Watch this video where I go over how to charge a Tesla at a Campground and then you'll find links in the description of the video for everything. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGW5Xn2fZsetrZI You should only need these two along with the normal 110v that comes with your. Tesla Model Y in case of an emergency. 50 AMP (Select 14-50 adapter): shop.tesla.com/product/gen-2-... 30 AMP RV/Tesla adapter: amzn.to/3E9lPoa
@bryanhauer
@bryanhauer 2 жыл бұрын
Actually hold on, Roy. I noticed they changed what was on that page for the 30AMP adapter. The 50AMP from Tesla is correct. Just choose the 14-50 one from Tesla's website, but the 30AMP on Amazon isn't the same as it was before. I'll have to do some searching and find one similar for you.

@bryanhauer 2 жыл бұрын
Ok Roy - Looks like they don't sell that one anymore, but this adapter is actually cheaper and should do the trick and it works with the 14-50 Adapter from Tesla I linked to above. You just plug the 14-50 into this 30AMP adapter and then into the campground post. Saves you money over the other one too. amzn.to/3KtOKH1 Note: Most campgrounds have both 30 and 50AMP so obviously choose 50 when possible. Occasionally you'll run into ones with only 30AMP so having this is still a good idea. Hope that all helps!

I'm assuming you couldn't go in the garage because of the height of your car with the travel container on top? Am I right? Is that what you were referring to when you said 6'8"?
@bryanhauer

Correct. I think that was the only place I had an issue when I had the rooftop cargo box. I now have a rear hitch cargo box which works much better for range, noise & of course height.

@bryanhauer
@bryanhauer 2 жыл бұрын
As long as you don't have a cargo box it would have plenty. Probably 20-25% remaining so not an issue at all for 99.9% of people. I've driven over 21,000 miles in the last 6 months and only had range anxiety a few times and again that was because I have a cargo box that reduces range by about 25%.
@TheWasamen
@TheWasamen Жыл бұрын
Something that helps is definitely using cruise mode and not go over the speed limit. You can always revert to go lower than the speed limit if you see that you are getting kinda low. That saves some good amount of battery. Make sure you are not accelerating or breaking too abruptly and you should be good. Just did SLC>SFO>LAS>SLC

Was removing the cargo box not an option to enable charging in that garage?
@bryanhauer
@bryanhauer Жыл бұрын
It wasn't. Not while it's full with only one person. The other charger was less than 30 minutes away so wasn't worth the hassle of trying to remove it. I guess I could have emptied it on the ground, removed the cargo box, slid it off on my own and then filled it back up with my stuff and left it on the ground while charging, but again, it was a quick drive to the other charger so not a big deal. That would have been my option in an emergency situation. Luckily in all the time I had a rooftop cargo box I never had another issue anywhere else. That particular garage was ridiculously short at the entrance. I now have a rear cargo box from Yakima that gets better range, no wind noise and is multipurpose.

It does. About 25%. Although I’m not happy with the range loss, I wouldn’t be able to camp like I do without it, so I just put up with the extra charging stop. Thanks for watching!

It appears there are many downsides to using an external roof cargo carrier -- will try to fit everything into the car, if possible. 17 - 20% range reduction is bit unbelievable, even for Tesla.
@bryanhauer
@bryanhauer 3 жыл бұрын
There are many downsides for sure. For me I was willing to accept the extra couple charging sessions on a trip as I couldn’t comfortably do what I’m doing without it, but agree there are trade offs. In a few years the range will be enough that we should get an actual 350 miles with a cargo box. One other option you might look at is a rear box like Swing-a-Way. I almost went with that but decided I didn’t want to block cameras and sensors. Thanks for watching!

Part-time. I enjoy having a home base and then traveling from there as often as I feel like it. Would not want to be on the road full-time. I've done that for months at a time previously and it wasn't for me. Got burned out. Perfect combo is traveling about 2-3 times per month.

I'm going on a trip down the west coast in a couple weeks with a plan to stop at Mt Shasta and Crater Lake on the way back north but I have a feeling I may need to change my plans because of the wild fires. Do you monitor where they are and what roads are being closed when you're planning the next leg? I got cut off a few times last summer when roads were suddenly closed. I've been using CalFire: www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/ and the PNW fire tracker: gacc.nifc.gov/nwcc/information/firemap.aspx I'm sure there are some for the rest of the states battling wild fires.

So far I’ve just searched Google and kept my eye on the news, but using an app or specific website dedicated to that isn’t a bad idea with how many there are nowadays. Especially one with push notifications. That would be handy.

@@bryanhauer I hadn’t thought of looking for an app. When I looked there are a few but most of them look pretty new. I downloaded “Fires” - there is a lot of information on it but the best part seems to be the InciWeb section that shows fires from the whole country all on one map (rather than surfing websites - much better!)
