Someone hire this women to make instructional videos. This level of detail is amazing. I do wonder how cold this tent gets with that open part of the vestibule and open mesh front .
@CampingGuidance Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Henry!! It really means a lot that you liked this set up video and all the details 😊 Hmm I don't camp in the cold (it's only summer where I am, near the equator), but I think all the mesh is the reason why TNF lists this as a 3 season tent. I think it's mainly for summer and not for even the shoulder season. Sorry I couldn't help more on this issue though!

I agree that these are THE BEST videos for making educated choices for camping gear. I finally ordered the Wanona 6 after watching Liz's videos a dozen times. I do live in a cold climate and my plan is to make a simple ripstop fabric cover for that door and attach it with velcro in the colder weather. It might be my imagination but it seems tents in general are adding more mesh everytime they issue a new model.

I didn't get notified about this comment too 😔 Sorry! I only discovered it when I clicked on the actual video and saw your replies 😔 HAHA I agree with the more mesh too, maybe it's to cater to all the summer campers 😅

The open front door is very disappointing. I camped 5 nights with night temps in the low 40s. Heat literally went out the door. Also gusts of wind go under the vestibule and right into the tent. Burr.

OK - Just bought this tent and watched the video before setting up for the first time. I know I'm at risk for acting too enthusiastic about this video but others have gone before me ;-) so YES! This may be the best product video I've ever seen and I use KZbin a lot for education on products and maintenance tasks around the house. I know editing went into this but I also know not much on the dialog which is pretty freaking amazing. You are incredible at this Liz. I hope you get rich. It's thorough without being overdone. It helped my wife and I set up our tent (just got it from REI on sale) first time in about forty minutes without risking our marriage :-) or using profanity. We're both 70 years old - yeah "old" and it still made it a breeze. Thank you SO much. I wish you'd do this for every product we buy.

I just practiced setting this up for my upcoming trip. I followed your instructions exactly and followed your tips. They were very easy to follow, and the tent wasn't bad for one person to set up. Just that last pole going into the grommet. I also bought the extra stakes and guy wires. Probably won't need them, but I'll have them if I do. I'm going to leave it set up for a few days to get everything stretched out, then take down and pack it away. Thank you for uploading such a good, informative, easy to follow video.

This and your video showing the Wawona 6 in flood conditions convinced me that this is the tent for me. And your tips on setting up were very helpful. One tip I would add is to attach the rain fly to the back of the tent using the 2 toggles provided before pulling over the top of the tent. That ensures that the rain fly doesn't pull completely off the tent & keeps it oriented in the right position to do the rest of the setup.

@@CampingGuidance I've used it a couple of times now and love it. It's tiring for me to set up by myself. The fact that I'm 70 years old doesn't help. The only problem I've had is that the tent pads in established campgrounds are too small for this tent. I had to overlap the tent on both sides of the pad the last time I camped. But I love the spaciousness inside the tent itself and the attached vestibule.

I bought my Wanona 6 based on your recommendation about 9 months ago but didn't get a chance to try it out. It is difficult to stretch the body of the tent onto the poles so your struggle made me happy that it wasn't just me. You explained the set up so well. It feels smaller than my REI Kingdom 6's and Nemo Wagontop 6 due to the angled back wall but the well fitted, large vestibule and your testing of rain resistance has me convinced it's the right tent to take on an upcoming 7 day, multiple site trip. Plenty of room for a large cot, chair and table and my collapsable cabinet. I now own 9 tents and can't name one as my favorite as they are all best for different conditions. I'm trying to take up backpacking so I'm researching 2 and 3 person tents next!

Hey again Deborah! Oh man I'm so sorry that you didn't get a chance to try it out and YEAH I've heard that from others as well, but just leave it set up for a few days, and it'll be all stretched out, and the next time you set it up, it'll be sooo much easier. Please let me know how the upcoming 7 day trip goes! I'd love to hear about it 🥰

@@CampingGuidance By the third set up, it did stretch out, especially after getting rained on. We had a LOT of rain and I had no leaks at all (except when I left the back door unzipped during a thunderstorm). The big vestibule included with the tent is the best bonus as it really works well as a mud room and kitchen area. I have a really nice set up with a cot, chair and small table and a foldable cabinet.

@@CampingGuidance Hi! hi! 😊 I usually camp with a group, but on this occasion I was alone. I was doing a test fit on a foot print I bought. The North Face one for the tent is NEVER in stock anywhere. After checking measurements online, I bought the one for the REI Skyward 6. It's almost a perfect fit. Around an inch off length and width VS TNF one, only has the 4 grommets for poles instead of 6, and no extra material in front of the main door for shoes, etc. It was fairly cheap at $26 though, compared to the ridiculous $65 that TNF charges. I'm happy with it though. I do a lot of camping in California and Arizona, so I really need ground protection for the tent. Sometimes even multiple layers under it. Usually, I don't bother with branded foot prints and just use a tarp, but I wanted something a little nicer and compact for this tent.

Hey Lizbeth! Glad you liked this video! 😊 Hmm do you guys use tarps or canopies for your other camping gear? Great video! Question: Has the front door open mesh now been covered by North Face designers? If not then how can one cover the opening? Pasting Zack's review from North Face's website for same tent from 2 years ago highlighting the flaws with the front open mesh: "The half fly and completely mesh front doors are a terrible design that fails any time the tent is placed in windy cold, sandy or dusty areas. The half fly directs wind directly into the tent via the mesh openings at the top of tent. Along with the full mesh front doors, dust and sand particles easily enter and accumulate inside the tent. The tent is terrible for any environment where there are cold winds and or dusty/sandy windy areas. Im speaking from experience of a tent filled with dust particulate after a trip to the high desert. The half fly made the situation even worse by directing the wind chill directly into our tent causing super cold conditions. This tent could have easily been the best tent on the market, however the marmot halo 6 has it beat due to these very important, but overlooked design features. The tent is excellent outside these conditions, but at this price point, it should be able to perform adequalty in the aforementioned environments, as there are many cheaper tents that perform perfectly in these conditions. This is an easy fix by engineers that could make this the best tent available, but until then stay away."
@CampingGuidance Жыл бұрын
Hey there! Thanks for the comment and the question! 😊 And sadly no, the front door open mesh hasn't been covered. It's currently just one entire wall of mesh. I think the review you pasted got it right - it's definitely not for use in dusty/sandy/cold environments. I personally don't camp in dusty/cold environments, so it's worked plenty well for me. This is purely a summer tent, not for shoulder season camping. If you wanna camp in the colder temperatures, I'd recommend the REI Base Camp instead! (I tested it as well and it's on my channel too.) There's a full fly there, and much less mesh, so it'll definitely keep the cold/dust/sand out much better! Otherwise, it's gonna be pretty hard covering the front door open mesh, it's pretty huge. I hope this helps! 😊

So we bought the Wawona 8 and it held up pretty well on the camping trip. It rained for 36 hours and there was no water leakage. However, when I ran a white tissue paper on the tent's inside wall it did get wet. I would have expected it to remain dry with the tent having a higher hyrdostatic head. Interestingly, in your test of the Wawona 6, the inside walls stayed dry during intense rain.

@@KoalaK-o2r Hey! Thanks for the update! 😊 Oh did you watch the full rain test or the full review? I actually talked about the back wall becoming wet as well after many hours of intense rain, in both videos. If you don't wanna go back to it again, the gist of it is that the back wall got damp. No leaks into the tent or anything, but my hand was damp when I touched the wall. Much like what you experienced. It does have a fairly high hydrostatic head rating, but even the best tents will get slightly damp in too many hours of intense rain (at least that's what I experienced). I hope this helps!

Liz, thank you for your great videos. I bought the wawona 6 based on your tests. But I don't think the link to rei worked as I was transferred to another page. (Yes it was still REI). I would like to make a modest donation, but I've read that KZbin takes a significant portion of the $. Do you have a presence on any other media that I can use to make sure you get All the money?

Hey Robert, oh wow that's so incredibly generous of you, I really appreciate it! Strange that the link to REI didn't work, thanks for letting me know, I'll check on it! Hmm I don't have any other media or any donation page though, but I REALLY appreciate you wanting to donate, that means sooo much to me 🥰🥰🥰 If you want, you could just use any of my Amazon links to buy stuff off Amazon, I will probably get the commission even if you buy almost literally anything 😂

Northface literally sent me here since they didn't provide setup instructions with their tent. 😂

Wow are you serious? Like THE North Face sent you here? 😱

@@CampingGuidance yes. 100%. Their chat with personnel gave me a link in our chat to this. Helpful but not what I expected.

Question: I just received my rent today. Is the two crossing pole perfectly straight or slight bented?
@CampingGuidance6 ай бұрын
Hi! Sorry what do you mean by the two crossing pole? There's one pole that's bent in 2 places, that's the pole for the vestibule, right at the front!

I have had a North Face Mountain Manor 6 person tent for 13 years. It is great and easy to put up but now worn out. I hate having to slide poles through long sleeves such as this as the snagging is annoying. It is a deal breaker for me. I am going to look for something easier to erect.
@CampingGuidance7 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for the input on the Manor! I didn't find the Wawona overly snaggy though when sliding the poles through the sleeves. Let me know what you eventually go with if you have the time! 🥰

Hey Bernard! Oh wow thanks for wanting to support me through my links! I really appreciate that 🥰 Oh I got mine through Amazon SG! But I paid a bomb for it omggg ($800). That's the price of not living in the US hahaha 😅
