Very interesting that you drew attention to this place. My sister-in-law lives very close to there in Ticino. I have been to over 40 countries and I have to say that Ticino is the most beautiful place I have ever been (for my taste). I understand that this channel is targeting very high earners and HNWIs, but I personally don't see much reason to live in Italy and put up with all the crap that comes with it when you could live in Switzerland. Ticino's taxes are some of the lowest in Switzerland, though Swiss income tax is highly progressive once you start making hundreds of thousands per year. I can see how this would be better for some people, but visa issues notwithstanding, I think I'd prefer to be wholly in Switzerland. Also, it's quite a bit more than 30 minutes from Milan, unless you're James Bond.

I first heard about Campione in 1987. Believe it or not there was a scheme there back then selling noble titles ! As for tax free the hot spot was San Marino for electronics and Montenegro for bulk cigarettes trading...

I went there three years ago. I love the region (Switzerland's Ticino/Tessin) but wouldn't want to live in Campione - it's a boring place, and I guess the property prices are pretty steep if you can find anything at all. As of 01.01.2020, EU VAT rules apply (but at the Swiss rate of 7.7 percent rather than the 22 percent Italian one) and there is also a customs border, I don't know whether it is enforced but I assume not - it simply wouldn't be practical given how closely Campione is integrated with Switzerland.
@OffshoreCitizen3 жыл бұрын
Understandable. Anything you liked about the place?
@Larzh2204693 жыл бұрын
@@OffshoreCitizen Apart from the VAT rate and the fact that it's a fascinating geopolitical anachronism? Not much, it felt more or less like a ghost town when I was there. Will be interesting to see if it comes to life whenever the casino reopens. I have my doubts.

Campione is still cheaper than Swiss Lump sum tax

True for high earners.

True, and you can take advantage of Italian lump sum tax if you're making enough income.

Michael, here is another obscure one in Italy. Livigno No VAT. If you need more inspiration for your videos you can talk about Svalbard in Norway. Or the French territory of Wallis and Futuna with 0% tax.

I went there when I was in Lugano. Was a bit disappointed by the area, not as nice as I expected and in the morning it get too much shadow. Lugano and Ascona seemed much nicer and in Italy I would rather retire in Como or Riva del Garda if I wanted the lake lifestyle.

From my understanding, one of the major things about speaking Italian is that each letter and syllable is distinctly pronounced. Sluring some letters like in French does not happen. That way, it is more simple than one might think. You still have to learn words, grammar, and emphasis, of course.

Yes, your French is much better than your Italian but then again, my English ain't so hot either. 👍🏻BTW--I appreciate this video having lived in Lugano many, many years ago. Lots has changed in the world since then so I personally don't see many advantages of living in Campione per se when the nearby area (in either CH 🇨🇭 or Italy 🇮🇹) offers so much more. The healthcare point you raise is, honestly, a serious consideration but don't see much else. Cheers.
