"Camptown Races" was a minstrel song written and composed by Stephen C. Foster in 1850. It describes the narrator betting at a horse race in "camptown." Camptown can either be referring to a temporary town of shacks and tents, or an actual town named Camptown in Pennsylvania. Nowadays this song is one of the most iconic American folk songs.
