Today I will be exploring handheld versions of TT's Lego video games. From the DS, PSP, and 3DS, it's an interesting ride, and something I'm very excited to continue! I will be covering the handheld versions of: Lego Indiana Jones 2, Lego Harry Potter 1-4, Lego Star Wars III, Lego Pirates of the Caribbean, and Lego Harry Potter 5-7
For those that are new, this is the second part of my Lego handheld games series. If any of you played these versions growing up, let me know what you think of these games!

Please don't make me talk about Lego Marvel Super Heros Universe in Peril for the Nintendo 3DS. Just wanted to edit this, but there was an error in my video, I claimed the PSP was more powerful than the 3Ds which is not true. I'm sorry for this mistake, I always just assumed that because the psp had more powerful games on it like GTA. Something like this won't happen again!

I found it to be quite nice to play, as if it was a different adaptation. A lot of the elements I saw were taken from the books, not the movies. I found that unique, as the proper console versions did the movies instead. Looking back on it, I think that its great, almost as if it was like playing those classic Harry Potter games.

Lego Star Wars 2 on the PSP was easily the best port of any lego game to portable. It was a direct port of the console version with additional content like the ability to play a couple of levels from the first Lego Star Wars.

Agreed. LSW2 on PSP is honestly what i wished the vita coulda been for all games... And then it failed. Thankfully that is basically what the switch is doing... and the steamdeck, and the ROG Ally. LSW2 on PSP is more like DQ11 on Switch, where the handheld version has slightly worse visuals... but has more content than the main console versions. Im glad the era of LEGO Harry Potter 5-7 on Vita is seemingly dead and buried.

I actually really liked what they did for Lego Harry Potter years 1-4 on the DS. It was very unique and told the stories of the movies better than the console version did imo. I kinda wish 5-7 had this same style. From what I can tell all of your problems with it seem to stem from the fact that you played the PSP version. A lot of the problems you have with it aren't present on the DS.

Lego indiana jones 2 on the ds was magic to me as a kid. I think it might be the first time i dipped my toes into not strictly level based progression. And now that i think about it, that might have stuck with me until now because i vastly prefer exploration over levels.

My favourite handheld Lego game was probably Undercover: The Chase Begins, keeping in mind that original Undercover is probably my favourite mainline console Lego game. I love how they made it a prequel story instead of a direct port of the main version and, as a huge fan of crime cinema even as a kid, I adored how it had more of an emphasis on individual gang leaders compared to the console game. The main issue I always remember is how unsatisfying the ending felt, even as a kid, since it led directly into the events of the console game, but I hold that game very dearly as the first 3DS game I ever owned. And God, the music sticks with me to this day. Very excited to see that game covered in this series because I have genuinely never heard anybody talk about it.

Fascinating video. Growing up I didn’t own too many home consoles, so most of my gaming was done on portables. I enjoyed the lego games I played on my Nintendo systems, sure they weren’t all as good as the console version, but they had a special charm to them. I kind of miss the different experiences portables could offer, my last one was lego Jurassic World and I played it all the time. Now that I’m old enough and can afford a lot of the older consoles I can appreciate the charm the portables had going for them more

The original Lego Star Wars on hand held looks so retro and I love for that! It's looks like an actual 2D game with sprites and that's something I've never seen before as nearly every other game on handheld and console use 3D models. I grew up playing a good chunk of both handheld and console versions of Lego games with more time usually spent on the former. I really enjoyed experiencing the journey of the lego games and seeing how different (or similar) these titles can get, and seeing the final game be nearly identical in terms of gameplay and level design is great and a little bit poetic since it's a star wars one.

I loved Indiana Jones 2 on my 3DS. I had an old DS cartridge of it, but I loved to play it & I loved Indiana Jones. I even cut the Lego sets I wanted out of the manual to try & shove them more in my parent's faces so they would buy me them, which in hindsight was pretty stupid but it leaves memories with usually the one part of a physical game nobody really cares for, the manual. I'm still sad that I lost the cartridge almost 9 years ago inside a sofa at our then house, & never found it, but what I didn't lose is the original case & manuals. I still have all of those, & hell, I think it still has the old EB Games sticker on the front cover from when I got the game. The cartridge really isn't that expensive, so I'll probably buy it back one day, to finally revisit my memories with the game. I have fond memories with it & the first Lego Indiana Jones on my Wii, so here's hoping one day soon I get to relive those experiences.

So here's the thing about the portable Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4! As a kid, and even looking at it now, I loved it. I played it so many times on my iPod that my imagination and love for Harry Potter was kindled. NOW. As I have had my fair share of horrible Nintendo DS games, especially the ones that center on the touchscreen, I have no doubt it would have been worse on the DS (maybe the PSP, as well). Oddly enough, it's really the best portable Lego game I have ever played (from a personal perspective). The graphics and the gameplay could have been better, but it has that "home-baked", cozy feel, like something you'd play before going to bed.

I recently got a Ps vita and was looking for games to get on it. I grew up playing Lego Batman on the 360, and although I was aware that the DS version was different, I had no idea there was also a PSP version. Well, to my surprise the PSP version is remarkably similar to the home console versions. I was expecting it to be different like the DS version was, but it literally is just the home console version with lower resolution and worse frame rates. It actually blew me away. I was so impressed. I would have loved owning the PSP version of Lego Batman as a kid

I really like years 1-4 on the DS and PSP....I'm not big on Tears 1-4 on consoles because it's so plot driven and the repetition. *In order to get to this class...find a shovel and do it three more times.* At least in DS port we have classes to go to, spells to learn that weren't apart of the movies, better potion making. There's only so much fun I can have with "Interact with this, destroy everything and find the same ingredients, go back and get a Dark Magic character to destroy this Box or Ball" I do like the book references sprinkled in the console version of Years 1-4 like the troll guards and how Tom Ruddle flashes into his Book Voldemort description.

Lego Batman 3 on 3ds was actually pretty good. Lego star wars complete on ds was VERY limited but for what it was it wasn't bad.

Holy shit, you actually used my footage??? Now I kind of regret not finishing my Story Mode playthrough (I left off at the tail end of Year 4). Thanks, I guess! For reference, you _can_ actually move your character with the D-Pad in the DS version of _Years 1-4._ Makes it easier to focus on swiping your spells, at the very least.

Yes, I hope that's okay! I didn't want to play the game again on ds after 100%ing the PSP version. And, thanks for letting me know! :)

In your Lego Indiana Jones 2 review you failed to meantion that for the console release all 6 acts followed the same 5 mission type structure which was good for an easy Platinum when I was young but now I want a more intellectually engaging experience. I totally agree on your points, so glad that I have decided to finally finish all the Lego DS games that I own.

I played Harry Potter 1-4’s iOS port on iPad and iPhone back in the day. Loved it to death for some reason. I think for such a limited device at the time, it was really solid and a good boredom buster. And the controls work because well, there’s no buttons

I loved Harry Potter 1-4. I liked how it felt like you were actually going to class, and I don't know I just loved the gameplay too. I don't remember the touch pad being compulsorary for movement either.

I got that fact wrong actually! On the ds you can move with the d-pad. But yeh, I like the idea of the game but I don’t think it ended our well! But I’m glad a bunch of people could enjoy something I don’t like :)

Honor mention to Lego Star Wars Complete Saga on DS. They managed to completely remake the game to fit on the 3ds, and it's mostly the same, only simpler, but still fun as heck. They did a lot of work and it turned out really well considering the hardware limitations.

The DS version for Lego harry potter 1-4 can actually also use the D-pad for movement. It still isn't really that fun to play casually today, but it at least makes it more playable on DS lol. What I will say is that even though the Lego harry potter portable versions are quite boring in a casual playthrough, both 1-4 and 5-7 are actually really cool for speedruns. The European psp version of 1-4 had a developer tool left in where you can just fly around anywhere if you press the select button, which means that most of the boring sections of the game can be skipped, and 5-7 on the DS has an infinite jump glitch, as well as developer objects which end the level early, which means that most of the game other than the duels can be skipped completely. It's kind of weird how 2 games that were both fairly boring in a casual playthrough could both lead to interesting speedruns, and also that both of them have a way to essentially just fly around the levels

I’ve never heard of this before! Thanks for the info I’ll definitely look into this. I think I played the European rom of 5-7 on psp? But maybe it was exclusive to 3ds or I just didn’t end up doing it on my play through

@@CamReviews I don't believe the select button is actually used in normal gameplay, and iirc you have to hold it. it's possible there are multiple versions of it, i'm not sure, I haven't personally played the psp version, i've only seen the speedruns of it

I loved LEGO Batman 1, Star Wars The Complete Saga, and Star Wars 3 on the DS. I own a 3DS now and I'm debating re-buying them all. Funnily enough I remember loving LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4 as a kid. I'm not sure why.

I played Lego Harry Potter, Lego Indiana Jones 2 and Lego Star wars III growing up on the DS and I definitely must've forgotten a lot of things or didn't play through all the levels because I don't necessarily remember a lot from Lego Indiana Jones 2 based on the footage in his video. I do remember getting frustrated with Lego Star Wars III because the game would either crash and or I lost my save file multiple times but I'm willing to bet that this was because I was playing that game through a flash card instead of buying it. That aside I recall enjoying my time with the game and I eventually got the console version but didn't really like it as much as the DS version largely because I didn't know how to progress in some of the levels.
