Hey everyone! Thanks for watching! Don't take this video seriously. It's just a fun experiment. Also, I haven't deleted any comments saying that the fiver spinner is only going 31 MPH. Comments like that are just trying to smear my name. In fact I responded to a guy named Grant who did calculations based on the slow motion, and I thanked him for trying to calculated it, but that we ramp up the slow motion a ton, so you can't do calculations based on it. You would need the original clip to know the true value. But either way, it doesn't matter. This video is just all about having fun, and if you enjoyed it. That's all that mattered. Thanks everyone! He says that he is filming in slow motion at 18,500 fps which is 617 times slower than real time based one the 29.97 fps that sony vegas, final cut pro, and almost all video editing software uses. Using a stopwatch in the slow motion part, you can see that the spinner takes 5.6 seconds to do half a spin which equals 10.2 seconds for a full spin. Fidget spinners have a radius of 4 cm so that means it has a 25.13 cm circumference. If it travels 25.13 cm in 10.2 seconds 617 times slower than real time, that means it will travel 15505 cm/10.2 sec or 1520 cm/sec at real speed. 1520 cm/sec = 34 mph, not 1000.

Arcana well it would. for the entire system, yes it would be rpm which is angular velocity. however if you take the instantaneous velocity at the tip of one of the (weight things? the outer edge of the circle of rotation) you can get a linear velocity. of which is about 31.3 mph. so yes it can be in MPH

Leois12 If the fidget spinner was the main force, then the phone would've been shot off the brick, but he was moving it so fast downward that the spinner popped out of the clamps not because of it's own movement but because of the fact that the angle to the normal at the point where the fidget spinner contacted the screen was like 30° and not +45°. What this means is that most of the spinner's force was moving in a forward motion (not down) at that time, so the phone should have been shot off the brick because of this, but it wasn't because the force at which he moves the spinner downward is larger thus pushing the phone so hard into the brick that it broke the back of the phone and the screen.

The title is wrong, the fidget spinner isn't actually going at 1000 mph; in fact only 32 mph... On the video it took about 10.5 seconds for one rotation and 10.5 seconds converts to 315 frames. In otherwords, 315 frames per rotation. (30*10.5) He claimed the video was shot in 18k fps, so that means 1 rotation takes about 0.0175 seconds (315/18000); which is 57.1 rotations per second or 3429 rpm ((1/0.0175)*60) . The circumference of the fidget spinner is 25 cm, and 57.1 rotations per second will equate to 14.3m/s (57.1*0.25). I will probably make a video on this

It definetly wasn't moving 1000 mph that's for sure. The sonic boom you would hear would be really quiet though since the object is so small and so little air is being moved. When you crack a whip it's the end of the whip that's breaking the speed of sound, so don't expect a huge explosion if a fidget spinner could rotate that quickly.

Very cool video. But for God's sake guys, where the hell are your safety glasses? You think that missing chunk of smart phone @3:25 is crazy. Just imagine what something with that kind of kinetic energy would do to your naked eyes had that spinner flown apart from the all of the centrifugal force? Believe me dude. About 14 years ago I was hit right between the eyes with a high-speed metal shard from a grinding wheel. I wasn't wearing eye protection, and a mere 3/4" left or right of where I was hit, and I'd have spent those last 14 years with one fake eye, no question about it.
