That is the only way in which this matchup even makes a bit of sense. If Fabi doesn't need to move pieces he is just too strong for them even blindfolded and the matchup wouldn't have made any sense. I remember Vidit smoking Alex blindfolded playing on four different boards simultaneously and Vidit is not even as strong as Fabi. Only with this piece moving odd there was some very simmering hope for Botez sisters if they could have somehow managed to flag him.

@@viveviveka2651 Nah, Fabiano wasn't really a prodigy. definitely a late bloomer for chess. He was only like 2160 FIDE at age 12. I remember beating up on him when he was 10 or so at chess camp - he was rated around 2000 USCF then (like 1900 FIDE), which is OK, but certainly nothing special compared to non-American kids, and he seemed weaker, definitely a pushover in blitz. @@mikecantreed Alex is the master: her peak rating is 2092 (April 2016) , and she's a WFM. That being said, I don't think Andrea qualifies as an expert. My understanding is that expert means 2000+, and Andrea's peak rating is 1773 (June 2018). Bonus: Fabi's estimated 2400 ELO blindfolded would put him more or less on par with Levy Rozman.
