Time for another will it start video. In this one my wife and my 10 year old son Ralphie try to get there 73 Ford f100 running, it has a 302 windsor engine, 3 speed manual transmission shifted on the column, and 9 inch rear, and a killer old camper top. This truck has been sitting for 16 years and needs a lot of work but the wife says we are going to get it driving and keep it.

One of my all time favorite uploads. I was able to teach my son basically one thing. That was how a relay works. He caught on, and... literally make a career out of it. Likewise, my mother bought me a box of magnets and DC motors... and now I am an Engineer working on... You guessed it. DC motors, and low voltage circuits.

This has to be the sweetest video that Sleeperdude has uploaded. Between Ralphie rebuilding the carburetor to mom hooking up the battery -- absolutely top notch. This is a great engine -- Ford built millions of them and obviously parts are readily available. Next, get a fuel pump and new master cylinder -- might need to go to a junk yard to find a set of pedals. In a pinch you might find a vendor either in Hemming's Motor News or on the Internet. Wheel cylinders and brake shoes you can get at practically any parts store. You might have to bend up some brake lines. Hope the clutch and throw-out bearing works. I would be willing to bet the heater works. You are very close to a first drive. Were it mine, I would go all the way with this nice truck. It is definitely worth fixing up.

When I buy a new, used car alot of parts get replaced including spark plugs, oil, trasmission, transmission, fluids. It sets a baseline standard and erases any doubts about the quality of the car.And a little upfront now saves alot later.Especially in the middle of a busy interstate in the bad part of winter or summer.

When I was Ralphie's age (over 60 ago) I practically road around in my dad's hip pocket as he worked on all kinds of cars, trucks, graders, tractors, combines and anything else with an engine. Unfortunately my Dad didn't have the patience that you do to let me actually work on most things but, I watched and learned. Years later my Husband died leaving me with two teenage children with cars. Thankfully, before he passed we worked together on all kinds of projects and, once again, I learned. When my daughter came home from school one day with the muffler hanging, she bounced into the livingroom and announced that we needed to take it to get fixed. Imagine her horror when I told her that she drug it off and she was going to fix it. We went to the auto parts store and bought the necessary hangers to reattach the muffler and we went out and with my instructions she fixed it! Boy was she proud of herself! The knowledge that you are giving to your family is priceless! God Bless you and your Family with all the prosperity in the world!

Outstanding !! that you get to enjoy and share that with your son. Oh, the days I had growing up my Dad. He taught me SO much. How to build, fix / repair, fabricate anything and everything. Dad was a Master of all trades.

73 was the first year for those 6th generation Ford F-series pickups & were produced up through 79. The 2nd generation Broncos on the other hand which have the same body design were only produced in 78 & 79.

Dues my Heart WELL to see that you have some respect for the metal tag on the top front of the GREAT ford 2 barrel carburetor. As an engineering technician for a number of years involved in determining where the carburetors destination was and the individual settings of these carburetors. Such factors as engine cubic inches, cam type, service( car, truck, taxi, or police), accesories( alternator size, Power steering, Power brakes, Air conditioning), Altitude, and climate conditions determined the Choke type and setting, main Jets, power valve. float level, barrel butterfly and size, float size and setting, Needle and seat size and type, fast and Normal idle seetings and emmission control devices. That tag told you alot about that carburetor.

In June of 1973, I bought a brand new F100 with a 302, 3 on the column. The only options was two tone paint (wind blue top over midnight blue metallic) and a $39 step bumper. No air, no power steering, brakes, locks, windows, nothing. Not even a radio. The price? $2900. Sold it four years later for $1500. Those were the days! 🙂

For your 10 year old there let me tell you buddy definitely enjoy every moment that you get to work on that truck with your dad plus pretty mama!! My dad gave me my first truck but he ended up wrecking it before he gave it to me!! We did get it back but when it got wrecked it hit pretty hard and ended up breaking the tranny case and the transfer case witch was all cast iron!! It was a 1972 Chevy heavy half ton 4x4!! My dad told me he would help me rebuild it but don’t start tearing it apart with out him because he had to have Visual on how everything went!! After sitting in are front yard for 3 or 4 years I was like well if I don’t start on it my self it will never get done!! So not old enough to even drive yet let alone not even in high school yet I started to tear into it!!! I literally had to tear the whole body off and the motor, tranny, and transfer case out of it and I ended up doing that with out my dads help!! Today I sure wish he would have spent time with me and helped me with it!! I ended up having to buy a couple more trucks a couple years later to get parts from both them to help rebuild the one that my dad had wrecked!! It took me several years but I did get it going and after looking back at it I definitely learned a lot from having to do it all by myself!! That definitely makes me very proud and today I have done many rebuilds on trucks and I definitely love all the different challenges with each different vehicle that I take on!!! Remember buddy just take everything that your dad tells you and put it away for later on in life and that will help you out down the road when your dad may not be around anymore!!! Remember buddy keep up all the hard work buddy!!!!

Oh I knew that old Ford would start up and run. Won't be long before your Wife and Ralphie will be driving down the road in it. Ralphie will soon be working on and fixing his own cars before too long now. Then Pebbles can keep him in line with his mechanical work like Rocky does with the master mechanic of the family. Good stuff folks and great fun. Its nice to see a family working together and helping each other instead of sitting in front of a TV or on a computer most of the time. Stay safe folks be kind to each other and the animals. May God bless.

What an amazing family ! Kudos to mom and dad. Wonderful to watch a master at his craft and passing it along to the new keeper of knowledge. And mom is amazing showing her willingness and knowledge to guide and help. Even your critters have great personalities! Such a great program , I’ll be watching and learning as I smile at your remarks as you guide Ralphie on his journey . Love you guys!
