There needs to be a subscription service that gets approved by the music publishers that works with the social media sites. DJs could pay 10 to 20 bucks a month to go live as much as they want. The service could let the DJs take tips through the service. Enough tips can make the service pay for itself. DJs can get the exposure, artists get paid, DJs get paid, the service gets paid, everybody happy. There are streaming services. What I'm talking about is basically a versions of Mixcloud, but for live-streaming on social media. I think it could be done. Just don't know where to start to try to make it happen. But it needs to be a thing.
@ClevelandTerry4 жыл бұрын
Agreed!
@djrightonbeat4 жыл бұрын
That is not the answer if you paid 20 bucks for a month subscription and went on twice a day and played 30 songs each set the artists that owns the music wouldn’t be getting paid fairly. The ANSWER is, if you have a 30 song set, pay $30 bucks, 1 dollar per artist, that is more than they get per stream on Spotify, Apple Music and all other platforms.
@marcusallen52754 жыл бұрын
Good idea and they could also request a percentage of anything collected if the DJ is being tipped within their CashApp or other service.
@edwardfields36074 жыл бұрын
Best idea ever! But, I'd say have different plans and no tips for the DJs, as it's free advertising for us, and increasing our fan base. $10/month for 5 streams, $20/month for 10 streams, $50/unlimited...or something to that effect. Hell, I'd pay $20/month to do 10 sessions and get my name out there. You know they're all about the money. It would actually benefit the artists also, as album sales are basically a thing of the past. Again, great idea bro.
@djdaddyj4 жыл бұрын
Apparently, Mixcloud is about to start a streaming service for DJs. It's free for the first 90-days, then after that I think it's a monthly subscription that the DJs have to pay.

Another way to stay away from being hit with a kick is to speed up the song with key lock off, that way it’s harder for the computer to analyze the song if the pitch is changed, just by a couple BPM can save your stream!!!

Loving the channel, but just wanted to clarify and give some facts regarding copyright. I had the pleasure of working at the end of last year at PPL (public performance licence) here in London. Now although they are not directly associated with all the publishers and companies who monitor the internet for breaches in copyright, they do have all the official legal documentation regarding right or wrong! I spent a long time reading these. Here's the deal. First, the myth about pitching up or down, changing keys to try and trip up the software detection system, does NOT work. It may have worked in the early days when the software was not as sophisticated. Secondly, the theory of only playing a part of the track will avoid a hit is also not true. According to the paperwork specification, all audio/visual detection software MUST be capable of detection within 2 bars. There are certain record companies who are more active than others, Warner Brothers being VERY active! The copyright issue has been enforced more during the last 6 months with changes in law regarding this practice. So how do you avoid being kicked off a stream... Play only white label or un-signed dance tracks, or VERY obscure tracks. I realise some of you will say, "how come this guy never gets kicked off..", I guess it's just the luck of the draw. Hope this insight helps. Great videos btw.

Great tips bro! I do a lot of old school mixes. Nothing like new school just pressing play. I build the beats, mix the acapellas on it and craft new choruses and custom hooks. Even if tempo is drastically different, when I streamed on here two years ago I would get hit with claim after claim. But never knocked off the stream. I may end up trying Twitch to see if it's less restrictive. I wish as a DJ that actually creates new songs out of existing and including our own production, that things would be more lenient and labels would allow it since we do alot to promote these artist for free.

I would like to add to that Cleveland Terry I'm a House/Techno DJ and I enjoy playing long blends in my sets. Also, you would play tracks that have been edited, remixed, reworked, dubbed. They are not the original songs so it shouldn't be spotted and you won't hit with a strike. I run 2 online radio shows using 2 main online radio station platforms. When you play under their umbrella, you are part of their radio platform. That means you under where guidelines they have to allow you to play a full set. I was part of a Virtual Music Fest with 23 other DJs. I and my DJ partner played for nearly 2 and a half hours with no issue. We Livestream on Twitch. Cleveland Terry is correct. There is a workaround. I know 2 many DJs/Producers played their sets with no issue on FB, IG, KZbin, and Twitch. I have a Twitch account and plan to start my solo show this Sunday.

Playing a small portion of a song does not definitively help you. Content ID creates a fingerprint of the entire song. There is no real rhyme to reason, but as an example, I have sampled a small portion of songs in my artist releases and on occasion it gets flagged. I submit my proof of clearance and it works itself out. Some of my remixes are not flagged, while others are. Neilsen has the same type of ID system for artist to get BDS detections which result in the airplay numbers found in Billboard. Sometimes even those numbers get flubbed because we mixshow DJs overlap, remix, scratch and trick out music which results in music not being detected properly. Ultimately I started my own digital radio station and paid the publishing societies for the right to play on my platform. Anything else is at your own risk.

this is a thorn in my side and something i have repeatedly spoken about online. djs are being treated like some sort of 90's bootleger or a pariah of society. lets b real, we break records, we keep so many artists alive and eating cos we are playing their records and yet the thanks we get is black out and mutes!!! facebook seems to operate differently to the other platforms. i been streaming and uploading for years and they are the most copyright unfriendly platform. WHen i speak to other dj friends worldwide, that is by far the worse perpetrator of crimes against djs...!!! they will even block me playing my own music. block first , u have to object and then they may release. the worst case scenario with playing your own music is that u would have to get the distributor to white list you with fb! youtube seem to b fine with nearly everything. the copyright owner will claim his song but its very unlikely u will b muted. it just means u cannot monetise the mix or at least that song. twitch seem to b fine with everything at the moment IG give u about 1 hour stream. if u r getting a lot of viewers, like d nice then perhaps tha tis extended. remember even dj khalid who has x million followers only gets around 4/5/6k live views at any one time. mixcloud - r fully licensed for all music and r the only platform espcially dedicated to music dj miixes and streams. no blocks, strikes, mutes, lock outs... now saying all of that there r some artists which i seem to have prolems with - prince, - they will strike anything. maybe cos some of m mixes get millions of plays its happening but u cant play any prince. u may get away with it in live but for playback im prettty sure they will cut it. jay z is another. maybe if u beat juggle or jus drop 30 seconds but i hav ehad issues with playing any of his catalogue.

medium.com/@k/how-to-live-stream-dj-sets-on-twitch-81401a99cf1f - if you can deal with the crap of Zoom, it's a way, but Zoom audio sucks. Seems like best way is /host, /raid or 'allow others to stream' options. I thought about getting each DJ to call me on Zoom, then put that in OBS with visuals etc. But Zoom costs money apparently if longer than 40 minute meeting or more than 3 people. If keep the sets under 40 minutes, can do it with zoom into OBS I guess. Then you can be 'master stream' machine and add overlays, visuals, logos etc. Otherwise you need to get each act to do the visuals in their own OBS etc

To ensure not getting muted or booted, approximately how long should each track be played for, before switching to a new track?
@dankpizzle774 жыл бұрын
Sooo ... why is it that Other DJS?! Such as Dnice, Questlove dont get booted even though they playing songs what are copyrighted?

They have approval from the labels. They are the exception.
@SubsBSC4 жыл бұрын
They do get kicked off when they hit the time limit. IG has a one hour limit. They have to reconnect every hour.

One trick to mix faster I'd say using hot cues specially in EDM tracks to skip from Drop 1 to drop 2 and outro... using effects and remixes instead of originals also help out and not playing exactly in the tone so boost or decreaze a little the bpm with master tempo off (forget about mixing in key for obvious reasons)

Good stuff as always! I wonder if I get hit with a claim I can show them I have ASCAP and BMI licenses since I have an internet radio station I run.

You’d probably have to contact them first and get on an exemption list.

Hate to be the one to bring it up but.... how does D-nice stay on Instagram week after week for 4-6 hours at a time and never seems to get kicked off. Does he have some kind of special clearance or something?
@ClevelandTerry4 жыл бұрын
He’s got approval from the labels.

My take on this is talk regularly in th mic on the intro lead up in each song, short song plays yes but also hold the mix for longer even if it's hardly noticeable as that messes up the detection, then cue the next song and get an 8 beat sample playing in the background again low level but enough to mess up the detection... Other than that pitch up/down 3/8 but that sucks

What do you think about underground house? Or promo's as they are not main stream .
@Silkmaster42004 жыл бұрын
Yep. I called it mega mixing. Beatmixing every two mins or less each track. Also like u said mix other tracks with the same key on top each other. Maybe loop it. Kinda like a mashup. But live.

Hi, nice to meet you. a question! why some djs (Sinclar, Vega, sanchez, etc.) are not blocked with their live streamnig sessions?
@metabolismbaslik94084 жыл бұрын
Hey Cleve, have you got any thoughts on Mixcloud? I have been rather venturing into deeper sounds with hip hop and I haven’t been blocked at all. I think with the streams, we shouldn’t be focusing on commercial tracks, try remixes

Thanks for all your kool vids! I am an old school Dj and I have been having cabin fever so I’ve been playing on Facebook live. I like to play old Hip Hop Demos and old original releases that never made it to radio and mainstream. My concern is that some of these “Demos” never cleared their samples. Would these get flagged? Most of what I have and play I’ve either produced,co-produced, mixed, co-mixed, engineered, recorded(in my studio), did scratches on, or I know who the producer/artist is personally. I also play old school beats that have uncleared samples in them. Any thoughts to help my show out?

I stay away from main stream music ! I’m great just playing Reggae or Afro beats they don’t cut me
