these very budget mini pcs are a nice choice as a home server especially if you already have another laptop/desktop as your main device for heavier tasks.

I bought the Beelink version of the N95 mini pc this past summer, because I didn't want to pay scalper prices for a Raspberry Pi and when you factor in accessories, cases, etc., the Beelink was about the same price but with significantly more power. It's more than enough as a first homelab server, I was running several containers on it for various IoT and data collection related tasks, while also using it for watching Crunchy Roll and Netflix while I worked and never had any issues.

I also had a rasperry pi to run my homelab, but the sdcard on that died and wanted to get something more reliable. Just bought the g3 2 days ago. I also wanted to learn kubernetes and install some more demanding software. I think its good actually that the n100 is cut down silicon having only 1 memory channel and only 2 lanes of pcie 3.0 for nvme storege. This means lower cost and lower power consumption. Like you said the i7-s and r7-s are overkill for most people. Also 2.5G nic and av1 hw decoding is very nice bonus.

I wanted to install Openmediavault in this G3, however I receive these USB errors at boot gen 23 13:34:20 openmediavault kernel: ACPI Error: AE_NOT_FOUND, During name lookup/catalog (20220331/psobject-220) gen 23 13:34:20 openmediavault kernel: ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Could not resolve symbol [\_SB.PC00.TXHC.RHUB.SS02], AE_NOT_FOUND (20220331/dswload2-162) gen 23 13:34:20 openmediavault kernel: ACPI Error: AE_NOT_FOUND, During name lookup/catalog (20220331/psobject-220) gen 23 13:45:34 openmediavault kernel: ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Could not resolve symbol [\_SB.PC00.TXHC.RHUB.SS01], AE_NOT_FOUND (20220331/dswload2-162) gen 23 13:45:34 openmediavault kernel: ACPI Error: AE_NOT_FOUND, During name lookup/catalog (20220331/psobject-220) gen 23 13:45:34 openmediavault kernel: ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Could not resolve symbol [\_SB.PC00.TXHC.RHUB.SS02], AE_NOT_FOUND (20220331/dswload2-162) gen 23 13:45:34 openmediavault kernel: ACPI Error: AE_NOT_FOUND, During name lookup/catalog (20220331/psobject-220) gen 23 13:53:26 openmediavault kernel: ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Could not resolve symbol [\_SB.PC00.TXHC.RHUB.SS01], AE_NOT_FOUND (20220331/dswload2-162) gen 23 13:53:26 openmediavault kernel: ACPI Error: AE_NOT_FOUND, During name lookup/catalog (20220331/psobject-220) gen 23 13:53:26 openmediavault kernel: ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Could not resolve symbol [\_SB.PC00.TXHC.RHUB.SS02], AE_NOT_FOUND (20220331/dswload2-162) gen 23 13:53:26 openmediavault kernel: ACPI Error: AE_NOT_FOUND, During name lookup/catalog (20220331/psobject-220) G3 support replied me that they only support Windows 11 but it seems a Bios issue. Anyone is having these USB issues with G3 ? Thanks

Do you have secure boot disabled in the bios?

expect driver issues with linux distros. I'm not familiar with openmediavault but it looks like the same errors.

@@ItsReallyGeo do you confirm same error ? Did you email them ? I sent various email

Got to say, I've got a DL380 upstairs that I never fire up because it's a pain in terms of power and noise, and having firmware specific 'features' like running the fans at full whack - which is impressively loud - if you aren't running HP sanctioned expansion cards or disks.... I don't really need a homelab setup any more - I have docker on my NAS that covers my needs these days - but I think a Ryzen 4xxx/5xxx micro-PC running proxmox would be fine for my needs - eight core/sixteen thread, 32gb or more, and that's plenty enough for experimenting. OK, storage is a pain, but if you have an *existing* NAS, then iSCSI is your friend, although if you're not doing latency sensitive database stuff, even just SMB/NFS over 1gb will be fine (IE streaming 4k media etc) That said, I'm more interested in some of them fanless quad/octo core multiNIC systems and using one of those as a stonkingly quick router/VPN/some docker stuff. Honestly for fiddling with server sensibilities, compared to even just a few years ago, we've never eaten so good in terms of the hardware available to us.

I am using Beelink SR5 with Ryzen 7.

Hi, you should try reviewing the beelink sei12 mini pc, its basically the intel version of the ser5 and there is an i5 12450H and i7 12650H version. They have a noticeable improvement in cpu perforrmance compared to the amd models with an okay igpu.

Great video! Just a question. What do you use for the 6 disk array? I want to run a NAS with a Mini PC but I have been reading a lot about the negatives of using a USB HDD enclosure. Any advice? Thanks!

Does anyone have problem with the Realtek RTL8852BE installed? Sometime the network card network drops if wi-fi is with 2,4ghz mode...
