Man I am glad someone else thinks the way I do. I thought amount mounting the deck in front of my mower for several years but just could not figure out how to do it. Congrats on doing that. I cut the front of the deck off a 21 rear wheel drive Honda walk behind mower to build my brush cutting and it works like a champ.

Just an idea. Cut back the front of the deck slightly to expose the cutting blades, and weld some fork like rods to guide the brush to the deck. Maybe change the angle up a couple of degrees so the blade are the first to hit the grass, bush, or corn. Otherwise love your ingenuity!

I converted a junked out 112 John Deere with a 36" single blade deck to a front mount. I cut out the front of the deck so about 1.5" of the blade was contacting tall weeds before they hit the deck. I bent up some 3/8" rod and made a deflector that would help the tall weeds fall to the right as the blade cut them off. It worked pretty well cutting 8' pigweeds and kochia. The deck was 4" off the ground, and it worked good for reaching under cedar trees in a windbreak. The secret was to allow room for the weeds to fall off to the right so they wouldn't be needlessly recut.

Good Idea You could even go larger in the future if you wanted to. Something you could do as a pull behind finishing mower. If you have an old, Cub Cadet Mower Deck, you mount a secondary engine to it and you can pull it behind your primary machine.

Looks like it works great, better than i expected honestly. I have plans of doing the same thing but on my ATV powered with a 3-5hp engine mounted on the old riding mower deck and hopefully with adjustable deck height. I wont be mowing anything too heavy, I just have a small property across a creek that my zero turn wont currently cross. I could use my tractor and bush hog but its a lot of trouble to haul it over vs the fourwheeler so i think a front mount deck on the ATV would make it easy.

I think you need to make an engagement bracket using the old deck engagement lever with a cable, and some pulley guards so you don't shred the belt with sticks and briars. It does look great on the front of that mower, it fits really good on the big brush guard, it looks like a true garden tractor now! cant wait for the river ride video soon too.

Hello From Mark In Kentucky. Regarding the mower blades. I have in the past taken oversized lawnmower blades and chucked them into my 14 inch Milwaukee Chopsaw cutting the appropriate amount from off each side of the blade. This was done on an old Yazoo Big Wheel mower in which the blades are obsolete and getting very rare to find. Most of the blades that I was able to find were the 26 inch blades instead of the 24 inch blades like my Yazoo uses. The chopsaw as a rule makes a good square cut which works for many mower blades but unfortunately not all of them. The blades that I cut did not require too much effort to put them in good balance. I would not recommend anyone who is not familiar with mowing equipment and or blade sharpening to try what I described as my disclaimer. Maybe I will create a front mounted deck for either my 107 Cub Cadet or my 110 John Deere when I get it re-wired. Thanks for the great idea.

Two thoughts: eventually, a branch is gonna fall into that unguarded drive and could do damage. A small pipe slit and welded onto the front lip would keep it from bending or dragging on vertical stalks. Oh, and why not copy the real bush hogs and make the blades hinge in the middle. Less impact stresses on the shafts and you could tackle larger material! I'm not sure, but flywheel weights at the shafts may give it more momentum and maybe make it smoother? (Thinking harmonic balancers from car motors or dumbell weights)

You compromised the strength of the deck by cutting out so much in the front... those bearing hubs are aluminum..they will let you know what they can handle and what they can't handle...but overall I like it🤗

That is true, kinda bends over what you are cutting to help the cut and push it down. Need to try cutting more deck away and give that a test too. Thanks for watching!!
