This is great information. The theory is that a labrum will not ever heal on its own. But is that 100 percent factual? I like this idea of before doing surgery sling your shoulder for a long period of time and let your body at least try and fix itself. Because it seems like the labrum does at least attempt to heal itself but no one ever gives it enough time.
@epmanualphysicaltherapy
@epmanualphysicaltherapy 7 ай бұрын
You are absolutely right Mosier Werks! The theory that the labrum will not heal is based on the research that says the majority of labrums do not heal. But if the shoulder never receives the help it needs to fix itself, it will not be able to heal. The shoulder is capable of slowly healing most injuries, but we must remove the processes or motions that are creating the damage to begin with. So, the research itself is lacking the proper interventions to allow for the healing to occur. We appreciate you checking in!

Great video! I’ve got one question. Most people (me included) don’t really know if it was a labrum tear until years later. I have some instability issues from a tear about four years ago. ROM is good. Is there any point in trying the exercises this late, or is it a lost cause given the long time since injury. I guess, you’d have to see X-rays or an MRI to make a statement, but just wondering if it is possible to achieve a stable shoulder with an existing tear, if the exercises are performed correctly and regularly.

Listen to this guy! I have a slap tear on my right shoulder and I have gotten so much better it’s possible to heal without surgery!!! Takes a long time months and months…..I’m already doing pulls ups and lifting moderate weights as long as it doesn’t hurt!! Its actually good !! Mine is almost completely healed!! Need to stretch need to exercise always keeping in mind not to feel any pain there!! If u do take it slower!! Use the arm sling for atleast two months you won’t get frozen shoulder I didn’t…. It’s bs only happens if they cut u open and mess with your shoulder other wise give it time to heal with the sling after start giving that shoulder all its movement!!! Little by little!!! And last get stronger, bigger!! Grow!!! Grow!! grow Your bones, your muscles, gain muscle weight get stronger!!! Always keeping in mind not to hurt it by asking more than it can take at the giving moment!!! Goodluck im fixing it it’s possible do your homework good luck its not easy…..also I had this injury for atleast 8 years coming and leaving !!! So don’t feel bad if u had it for long it’s still possible !! To be honest this will take a year to heal or close to a year or even more….so don’t rush thru it.

The main issue with using a sling for awhile (with a torn labrum) however, is that isolating the shoulder ROM can lead to adhesive capsulitis / frozen shoulder. You would then have to start from square one and that would lengthen your recovery time and introduce more pain. There is research that stem cell therapy is a better way to go for repairing the tear because the labrum isn't actually normal cartilage. It's more like the fibro cartilage structure of the meniscus. In most cases a good PT that specializes on injured shoulders can also do wonders for more mobility and strengthening the muscle balance.

I was spinning my right arm around in a circle going clockwise (from my own perspective) for like 5-10 minutes and felt a slight subluxation for a few seconds as I did this. The next day, I noticed a clicking in the shoulder when rotating it in the same direction. I've had it in a sling ever since in the hopes that, if it's a partial labral tear, it will heal naturally. Can you please recommend how long I should keep it in the sling for? Thanks.

Thanks for the video. Is there any supporting research that suggests a period of resting in a sling can allow the labrum to reattach to the bone? I haven't been able to find any relevant studies so would be grateful if you could share some links. I've got a right shoulder SLAP tear from 11.30-1 and have been recommended for surgery, but want to avoid it if possible. It would be amazing if you could share any evidence about resting in a sling that I could take to my consultant!
@epmanualphysicaltherapy
@epmanualphysicaltherapy 12 күн бұрын
Hi Ryan, Thank you for your comment! We’re glad you found the video helpful. While there isn’t a specific body of research that definitively proves resting in a sling allows the labrum to reattach to the bone, many healthcare providers recommend this approach to help reduce pain and inflammation in cases like yours. The idea is that allowing the shoulder to rest can promote healing, especially in the early stages after injury. It’s understandable that you want to avoid surgery if possible. We encourage you to discuss your findings with your consultant, as they can provide personalized recommendations based on your specific situation. If you're looking for research, we recommend checking databases like PubMed or Google Scholar for studies on SLAP tears and conservative management strategies. You might find articles discussing the effectiveness of rest and rehabilitation in the context of shoulder injuries. We hope this information is helpful, and we wish you the best on your recovery journey!

You are very welcome Franck! We do see a lot of success with this method. Labrum tears tend to respond well to conservative management. PRP may be able to help, but definitely is not the fix for the problem. The muscular balance needs to be addressed to truly target the problem effectively.

Is the sling useful if it's been many years since your labrum tear? It's been about 10 years for me, good ROM and can do some lifts but just can't lift heavy or do chest. Talked to two surgeons and both said no guarantee surgery will improve the situation given how minor of a tear it is. Is the sling useful in this situation or is it just strengthening / PT at this point?

Had no idea this was such a common affliction, with so many vids on the same subject matter. I'll probably try the sling thing to give that area time to re-attach or mend but I'd sure like to find a liniment to HELP the inner mend. Not looking for pain rubs....they work but they dont help the inner mending...which I've been experiencing for about a month now.

Hi TonyZ. to be quite honest the shoulder is still sensitive when I push it to much with chest press work or any kind of exercise that brings the shoulder into action. Whats ODD is when i do Leg presses, I feel it in my right shoulder? So I have to position myself such that the shoulder isnt' brought into play. i don't think I have a "tear" but something is UP with that part of my anatomy. It's getting better a little at a time and i do experiment with various behind the back pulls using TRX straps which also seems to help. Ultimately I'm experimenting with exercises that reverse what may have damaged that area in the first place. I'm learning as I go. THANKS for the follow up! Too bad you're not in Jacksonville FL or I'd go right to you for therapy.@@TonyZ19703

Hi Dodger, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. 🌟 Without a proper evaluation, we can’t provide personalized guidance, as we don’t know the full extent of your injury or your medical history. However, we do want to emphasize that when dealing with labrum tears, especially SLAP tears, it’s crucial to be patient with yourself, as they can take quite a long time to heal. Small, gentle movements are often more beneficial during the early stages of recovery. Since you’re experiencing tightness with certain movements, it’s important to listen to your body and avoid pushing too hard. It’s encouraging that the clunks and getting stuck are lessening, but continuing with caution is key. If you notice any pain or discomfort, especially during exercises like external rotation, it’s best to take it slow and consider consulting with a physical therapist who can tailor a plan to your specific needs. We have a playlist you might find helpful. You can access it here: “Shoulder Pain Labrum Tear Help” kzbin.info/aero/PLJVIPiFvv1magqnzx1pmLy_mF5r-S85d7 Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not. Wishing you a smooth recovery! We'd love to hear how you are doing as you progress.🙌 Please take care!

You can't really heal a meniscus tear..it was likely causing more damage flipping around in there

So I’m dealing with a slight tear in my labrum, right shoulder , it catches and feels like it dislocates on occasion but clicks right back in. I can’t afford to miss out on work if I have this surgery, and I do bjj for fun. I need to rehab this but how long would it take if I follow your guidance

Had a shoulder dislocation with a labrum tear (2 tears ),2 years ago. Didn't do any surgery. Waited 3 weeks then started to regain strenght. After 2 years ,I'm 90% healed,but I still take care at the gym while doing any push exercise. Btw I'm a bodybuilder ,so I'm using really heavy weights. Peace🫶🏼

@@ashishkatta2207 hey bro,I recommend you to go see a very good kinetotherapist because you need a deep tissue massage . This is why you have pain,because the very very thin layer of skin which is present on every muscle,not it's contracted(very hard). The kinetotherapist will help you to gain mobility not by exercising,but by massaging very hard. About me: I recovered by doing exercises with light weight. After 1 year i started to add weights little by little. For exemple before injury i was doing shoulder press with 38 kg After injury,I couldn't lift 4kg on the injured side. Also I don't know about your country,but if you can get TB-500 and BPC-157,it will heal you 150x faster than normal(read about those healing peptides).
