Elephants do some type of funeral ritual when one of their kind die... the even return to the site where the bones were left and examine them with their trunks months and even years later.. Also I heard a story about a guy who was knocked out in the middle of nowhere, and elephants came along and covered him in leaves...

This is in the sense that ideology proper must always take the form of religion, strongly involving symbolism, solemnity, rites and rituals, dogmas and objects of worship, as for instance Slavoj Zizek contends. Claiming Nazism and Stalinism was secular is wrong not because they were in any way substantially connected to Christianity or a belief in God, but because Nazism and Stalinism themselves became religions.

I’m pretty sure leisure time =/= religion, but ok... The significance of human religion goes beyond simply being right or wrong, it shows that humans question their own existence, why they are here, and whether or not there is a greater purpose behind their existence. Animals, as far as we know, don’t ask these questions.

The nazis actually believed in God. The soldiers came from a community mainly composed of evangelicals and catholics... that is, their own german society.

You should rewatch that part of the video. He clearly said that they came from a religious society, but were not religious themselves. Just as many, if not most countries nowadays are still religious, yet people continue to become atheist. Just because you come from a religious community doesn’t mean that you believe in that religion, or will follow its teachings.

that's not what religion is about. the real meaning of the bible is lost in translation. people have distorted it and people have misinterpreted it as well.

Before bolshevik revolutions in Eurasia, there were strong feudal formations of religious landlords. Thanks to the revolution, people literally got an age leap. I don't say USSR was perfect but at least was much more better than its descedants. People saw a real education that our elders still benefit which was even better and more secular than those of today post soviet countries.

I disagree with him on this one. What he's describing, in both answers, is the presence and importance of congregational spaces. A congregational space need not be a religious one. Also, Nazis and Communists displayed horrendous behaviour out of a lack of empathy, and religion is just one of many ways through which you can ensure empathy for others-literature being a non-secular way to do the same. And France is a good example of a God-less country. It seems to be doing well.

I think you spelled ignoramus wrong. Also, I believe that your making a Straw man argument. You have misrepresented the conclusion so you could more easily refute it. NOBODY made the universal claim that " EVERY bad thing that happened in the past was caused by religion" but rather that MORE bad things happen because of religion. I have posed the question"What about genital mutilation?" I don't believe that would happen on the scale it does today without religion.Care to stay on topic?
