For me (chibi), its been WoW/ Blizzard's cutscenes /cinematics. They are so easy to get immersed in

@@sticqeno288 yah , long story but my younger brother and I where big final fantasy nerds . We worked our asses off to buy a PS and get FF7 when it came out in 97. When we first saw the cut scene we both turned our head and looked at each other with our mouth wide open. Big WTF moment for us . My brother is gone and that cut scene will always bring back memories in a way nothing else will ever do.

Favorite cut scenes. First time I saw WoWs opening, Warhammer Onlines opening and the last cut scene for FF9 Guild wars has some of the best lore. They have 3 amazing books. I hope they do someth ing like this for us lore junkies

One thing Blizzard has always excelled in when it comes to World of Warcraft and Diablo series is their Cinematics. I really hope that intrepid adds a nice cinematic / cutscene approach to server defining events, crossroads and achievements within the game for our characters. It's been brought up here and there but never really stressed enough is voice acting in Ashes. I really hope they add this into the game, yes it's a time and cost consuming addition to development, but it really improves immersion and gameplay overall in my eyes along with many others. Yes, there will be the [skip] [skip] [skip] [accept] types in Ashes just like any other game out there, but at least give us the chance to soak in the story, lore and feel like a part of the world around us for those that crave that sort of thing. Even if it's just done using AI voice acting that is so much better than having to read blocks of text.

I agree but personally dont want IA voices, i know It reduces the cost but also will destroy every professional people in every market...

I have a controversial take to this. Epic level cinematics cost insane amounts of money. So i would rather they just put in that money into better servers and the development of the game itself.
@sticqeno2884 ай бұрын
I don't think that's a terrible take tbh. I do think cutscenes are necessary, though, even if there aren't many of them during the lifetime of the game.
@danny31204 ай бұрын
That definitely used to be the case, but does that still hold true today? Hardly any of the recent most played games relied on cinematics at all. Word of mouth gets around so fast these days, you can't really hide a good game anymore, gaming community is so active. Reply

If they have cutscenes I hope they have them during beta. I'd like to watch them before launch so i can rush trying to become the server first for whatever profession I end up choosing. Need that early Monopoly.

I skip cit scenes after i have seen them before but Ashes is a PvP game gankers will hang out around areas cut scenes are triggered and win they see a charactor stop moving in that spot they will know the player is in a cut scene and cant see or react to what is happening to there character

I arnt got no time for cut scenes lol =) I have zero interest in the lore and stuff and i have been a massive player of MMOs. i just want to play the game. Quest..Farm for trades.. do doungens and most importantly have fun with mates
@sticqeno2884 ай бұрын

@demolama4 ай бұрын
Cutscenes do not belong in a sandbox mmo. The game story is secondary to the story the players themselves make through their efforts. Plus, how could it work in an 80% open world? Free kills while people stuck in cut scene?
@sticqeno2884 ай бұрын
That's a hot take. I think it depends on the game tbh. Ashes has a ton of lore.
@demolama4 ай бұрын
@@sticqeno288 I don't find that a hot take at all. All early MMOs were able to convey lore through means other than cutscenes that take you out of your game experience. Quests, lootable papers, etc., if designed correctly, are ways to build on the lore of the world. It worked for every old school mmo prior to when WoW started adding cutscenes, including vanilla WoW. Players can choose not to read the quests, choose not to loot the papers. If cutscenes are added then players have no choice but to jump into them, even if it's for a brief second. Anything that leaves you vulnerable and unable to control the actions of your character is bad game design. Again, I don't see how they can work in an 80% open world always on pvp sandbox

Skippable is important, but impactful is more important. If I'm not invested in the story, then I might as well be doing the daily quests that lead me to quit WoW. Daily quests that felt like a chore pushed me away, but the Burning of Teldrassil cutscene dragged me back in. Fantastic vid, sir. I'll never skip Q.

I grew up on Command and Conquer, Age of Empires, Empire Earth, Civ 2-4, etc. Cut scenes were such a special experience. They told the story or explained what was happening in that particular mission. For Ashes, I hope there is at least a cut scene before character creation explaining the story so far. Personally, I think it would be a good idea that for each server, depending on world events, that cut scene could have additions. Just so new players knew a little bit about what has happened in Vera. Ofc only for the big events.

I think the opening cinematic and cutscenes are important and can really setup player immersion and also induce a whole lot of hype for the game. Combining a nice introductory cutscene, along with a decent simplified tutorial, can set the tone and pace for the game out of the gate. (add the ability to skip after first time completing for those of us with Alt - Reroll issues 😄) I really hope Intrepid takes this approach for introducing a touch of interaction and lore as to why we are all here on Vera as we travel through the gate and are set out on our adventure.

I love cut scenes as long as they are intrinsic with the story line I'm on. Some games cut scenes just seem so out of place and leave with questioning "what just happened? Or what was that about?" I loved the cut scenes from both FF11 and FF14. Both really kept me immersed in the world and interested in continuing the play through. The music and actions in cut scenes from the games are nostalgic. I really enjoyed promothia and Aht ughan cut scenes in FF11.
@Ganknasty_4 ай бұрын
Cutscenes I would watch(usually skip) are ones that involve my interaction with major npcs like accepting/progressing/completing epic quests. Node war declaration/ending, like seeing the node be destroyed, or the defenders pushing the attackers back after success. The fall of raid bosses. Things of that nature.
@iN_O_O_B_Y4 ай бұрын
I think the best strategy is to have some short but very good cutscenes early on that are unskippable. This will train people to skip less and give some important info.

Blizzard made a billion-dollar company off quality cut scenes, the warcraft 3 cutscenes MADE that game, and that made WoW, even the OW cut scenes inspired the fans to want more and more lore and more games. they didn't get those things but boy did they wish and dream big. an MMO should have a high quality NOT in engine rendered cut scene think FF7, hell divers intro, an intro cut scene to set the tone, and a path to the next cut scene. needs to be high-quality voice acting music and sound. I despise cutscenes that are in the engine no graphic upscaling just forced camera angle and NPC RP walking that's not a cut scene just a hidden loading screen. Starcraft made me addicted to the RTS for the few and far between cutscenes that told us the lore of the world and the love story of Jim and Nancy couple of crazy kids in space vs much more than just one world.
@sticqeno2884 ай бұрын
I think both can exist, but I agree that we should have some outside of the game engine.
