Villa were brilliant most people just like to say Man City were bad it’s not luck winning 14 home premier league games at home in a row. I’m that run we dismantled Brighton 6-1 Newcastle 3-0 but that performance against City was the best one least shots for and most shots conceded in a game for a Pep team ever. Now I’m not saying Villa will win the league but Emery and Villa get massively over looked everyone raving about Big Ange and De Zerbi if Villa get Champions league this season it’s a brilliant season Emery is the third best Manager in this league

@@ad6892 a supercar with no engine should be in a soapbox derby, not a Formula 1 race. the point is Rodri wasn't there, and Man City couldn't cope without him. that's weakness. we lost Tyrone Mings in the opener against Newcastle and Emi Buendia a couple of days before that in training -- two of our key players from last year's 7th place team. Villa are 6 points clear of Newcastle after today's results. That's because Emery has every player in the squad bought into his system so that on any day, at any point in the game, he can put any player on the pitch with expectation of high performance. they showed that against City, and it's the usual, not the exception.

Since Emery came into Villa only Arsenal and and Man City have won more points which obviously puts villa 3rd, they are now third on the table in the current season so they will be right up there in the mix if they continue what Emery has started. Moreno, Ramsey are back in the team from injury and Diaby came off the bench barley played and Tielemans has practically not been in run on side so yes they have a squad

As an Arsenal fan I can clearly say Unai Emery can't win the league. He was given the chance at Arsenal and he failed.. He is a mid table team manager who punches above their weight. Emery can get his team to score goals but if a team decides to have a go at them they will leak goals.. Remember Psg torn apart by Barcelona in champions League second leg.. You can whatever you want to say but none of the top 4 team will take Unai Emery

We (Villa) are not title contenders. Our aim is a CL spot and winning the Conference. Our away form is not as terrible as people make out, I think we are 8th when it comes to away form. Our issue will be fatigue across the squad with the extra games. We had 4 key players out from the start of the season. 2 of them are back now, JJ and Moreno. But...and here is where the problem lies. We are a couple of injuries away from having a problem. Under Emery we average 2 points per game across the season, that's CL material, It isn't title material. With a couple of additions in January if Emery thinks they are right then we keep our heads above water and make the top 4/5 and pretty much every Villa fan would be elated by that.

I’m sorry, I understand your ambitions and expectations at the start of the season, but in my book any team that’s above the reigning champions and only 4 points off top spot in December is a title challenger. Call me old fashioned or a romantic but I think every team, in any given league, is a ‘title contender’ before the first ball is kicked of the campaign. Aston Villa are most certainly a contender for the title in my mind. Whether you will or not is of course a different matter. But you’re doing great to be fair, and as a neutral, all the best to ya! Appreciate Rory pinning down whats behind the stats. I am in agreement it wasn't so much City having a one off poor game, it was Emery's tactics were spot on and the players applied themselves to it exactly and reacted perfectly to on field situations. And they played hard for 90+ mins, City only had an 11 min window, the rest belonged to Villa. As for title contenders, statistically yes, but not really in the long run. We are a work in progress, our away from is just barely above average (we will fix that) and our main objective is CL. We aren't going to allow anyone to distract us as we take it one game at a time. Win, lose or draw we are enjoying our football, love having Emery as our manager and we have brilliant Owners who love football too and support Emery 1000%. What more can a fan want??

We keep hearing Villa don't have enough squad depth or that we can't maintain this level of performance. Well we've maintained this level since Emery walked through the door 40 league games ago and we've done it with lengthy injuries to several key players. So yes we can win the title but I don't think we will. I'm looking at a potential victory over Arsenal tomorrow as a chance to stick a bit more space between us and whoever is 5th. Apparently Emery when manager of PSG convinced Mbappe to join, if he can get him to join Villa in January we'll win the league. Maybe Digne, Kamara and Diaby can help convince him that for French international Birmingham is a home from home.😁

It’s funny how the punditry and football media mark Spurs out as title contenders after 10 games but Villa who beat Spurs away and then Man City have their season judged by an opening day defeat to Newcastle. I don’t think we’ll challenge for the title because ultimately City, Arsenal and Liverpool have more players who are capable of changing a game in a moment of brilliance than we do. Conversely there’s little pressure of expectation on us so any pressure is internal and more easily managed so we’re less likely to implode like Arsenal did last season. It’s far better to be a Villa fan now than it was under Gerrard. That was turgid football but now the ground is rocking again, very much like it was when Deano first came in. Hasn’t been like this since those days under Martin O’Neil. Unai Emery. Different gravy. UTV

54 Year old Villa Fan, not getting carried away but we`re well positioned just behind the leaders, its a marathon like the Grand National and we`ve just Jumped 1st Valentines. Next game against Arsenal will be a further test of our credentials. The main strength of the Team in my view is the Midfield trio of McGinn, Kamara, Douglas Luis. Combined they cost 17 Mill, now that`s value for money. And the funny thing is we have to thank our last 3 managers Steve Bruce, Dean Smith & Steven Gerrard for signing them.

4:43, the answer to the man's question is "why not?" Unai Emery is no stranger to playing at a high level, he's won Europa League 4 times. he knows a thing or two about managing his squad, rotating players to keep them fresh. Villa are not Leicester from a few years ago. They have seriously ambitious ownership that are determined to compete at the highest level. The punditry were saying this same stuff last year. "Are Villa good enough to qualify for Europe? Maybe next year, but this year?" And they did. They are a very well-coached, well-drilled team. Unai Emery will simply not allow his players to not be prepared for a game. They won't win always, but they WILL always show up with a plan, with determination, and a will to compete.

But why yes just as well ? Emery never won a league title anywhere, not in Spain, not in England, not even in Russia. He bottled 2 competitions in a span of 2 weeks at Arsenal, lost UCL tie with PSG vs Barcelona being 4-0 up in the 1st league, got fired in mid-season with Spartak Moscow. He is far from flawless.

Villa are the new spurs. Media will build them up and break them down. No Villa fan or spurs fan (for the majority) for that matter has said they could win the league. The other team the media bang on about is Arsenal but their fans believe they can win it. So that equals itself out.

A lot of talk about our depth at Villa. We started the season with Jacob Ramsey and Alex Moreno out until Octoberish. We then lose Buendia a few days before the season starts and Mings after half an hour into the opener at Newcastle. That was basically our LCB, our LB and our LM as well as our creative player. All 1st choice in their respective positions last season. Ramsey and Moreno are now back and getting more and more minutes. Pau Torres has hit the ground running, Digne is playing out of skin and Zaniolo has done an admirable job filling in on that left side of mid (without pulling up any trees). Compared to 1 month ago, our squad is now stronger and we have 1 game left in the UECL, a competition we have already qualified for the next round. So to sum up, we are stronger now than we were before. Replacements are now more in tune with Emery ball. And we won’t have any UECL to deal with until possibly March.

The January transfer window has suddenly become very important to Aston Villa. There are players like Bertrand Traore and Leander Dendoncker and whom I like but are not top 6 quality Premiership footballers. They need to be shipped out and replaced with a higher calibre of player on the bench. They also need a right back as back up to Matty Cash and a better quality backup keeper than Robin Olsen who isnt great either.

nope. 7:55 they had Moussa Diaby, Nicolo Zaniolo, Alex Moreno, Jacob Ramsey, Matty Cash, Clement Lenglet on the bench all of whom have started at least once in all competitions so far this season -- we're as deep as any of the teams around us. re: Conference League, that's actually a step down for Emery, he's used to winning the Europa League. and, oh what a disappointment, took Arsenal to the semi-finals of the Champions League. keep talking down the Villa. it is so much fun watching punditry falling over themselves trying to figure out what's going on with Aston Villa. Start of the season I said top 10 again with a UCL win & I’d consider that a top season with the UCL win giving us UEL football. To be sat in 3rd a few weeks out from Christmas and qualifying for knock out stages of UCL is dreamland. Think I speak for most Villa fans currently that we’re just enjoying the current ride we’re being taken on. The most underated player in the Villa Squad that you guys haven't mentioned is Douglas Luiz, he is the linchpin in that squad and has owned that CM position, what he does with the ball is 2nd to none. His communication with Kamara is the best in the League by a country mile. If Villa beat Arsenal at Villa Park, they will be the team to beat for the Title bar none.

I think it depends on what we do in the transfer window. If we can get a result against Arsenal people will have to take us seriously. But to be honest I'd be happy with a top 4 finish and EUCL win this season.

problem is that if we reach CL we might find ourselves like Newcastle, stretched too thin. Realistically this year is our biggest opportunity, next year we'll be more stretched and then it will be a couple of years at least before we have the squad depth and strength to compete and challenge consistently.

Yeh I mean, at present we are title contenders. And to be honest I think that’s just all the respect we needed. Thank you Rory for respecting the work that has been put in at our club. It’s been a steady rebuild ever since Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris came in. The recruitment was right it was just the coaching that wasn’t where we needed it to be. Emery and all his team, and to give him credit Austin McPhee having the license to completely dictate the set plays and pieces have all been massive game Changers across 2023. Whether we can push for the top into next year depends on luck, injuries and belief. I would love to see us bring in a couple of players in January to help with that push but we’ll have to see. We do have rotation available though and there’s gonna be more players coming back from injury in the new year. So it’s all optimistic from here. We are a fully fledged squad now with belief, and even if we lose to arsenal on the weekend that belief is rock solid. The legs will be tired after Wednesday so we’ll see. Up the mighty Villa. X

All eyes were on Arsenal last season and the pressure wasn't easy for them to contain while City were just playing with no pressure last season but this season Arsenal are just motivated to gradually developing their team. Arsenal to win the league with no pressure.

Villa are doing fantastic and deserve the praise but realistically a top 4 is their best hope. I don't think they have the squad for the long haul and their away form may not endure as well as their brilliant home form. If they achieve a CL place then considering where they were last year proves what a brilliant job Emery is doing.

The McGinn vs Caicedo is hardly out of line. Caicedo is one of the most overrated players in the league, he hasn't had one iconic performance at Brighton or Chelsea. He also makes Enzo look like a far worse player

Everyone’s getting carried away. A few dud results for Man City and everyone thinks the other teams can win. I’m still saying Man City because they can still go on a 20-game winning run. This season is merely less like the title races we have got used to (since around 2018) and more like those of the 90’s and early 2000’s.
