The truth is Yes It can , it can even give you enlightenment directly but it depends on user mental state and capacity, It's like a tool-imagine if a smartphone is handed to a monkey. The monkey wouldn't understand what it is. It might stumble upon the images displayed on the screen or hear sounds coming from the speaker, and its mind might grasp a little of what's happening. But it wouldn't fully comprehend the device's purpose and might instead use it as a stone to crack open a nut. For a human, however, it's a completely different story. A smartphone opens up endless possibilities, like connecting to anyone in the world for communication. sadguru might be also aware of this but I have noticed in many places he tries to conserve information maybe he is trying to keep people safe because it might be misused or accidents can happen as he said sudden open to reality may breakdown some people who were not ready for it mentally.

an option is: learn and train in vipassana meditation for 1-2 years. and virtuousness (Sila). once you're certain that youre STEADY and clean enough spiritually, then take the substance and MEDITATE throughout the entire trip. this was what i did. i sat in meditation for over 3 or 4 hours, non-moving. and i experienced/ saw such unbelievable things. i turned vegetarian overnight, lmao. (amongst other things). but do this JUST ONCE. why? you'll know why. whats the purpose? so that you can SEE for yourself, that all this spiritual mumbo jumbo thing, Samsara, Karma, etc, is REAL. and this can serve as your motivation and evidence, for you to continue staying on the virtuous and spiritual path from here on hence. i experienced INTENSE desire to keep meditating everyday, after that experience, but thats wrong, and you might end up losing your mind. i almost did. instead, just take it easy and meditate once a week max, after that experience, until your mind has settled back down, and calmed down. just like SG said, you go way up high, and you will crash right back down, the psychosis is REAL, and seriously scary. DO I RECOMMEND IT? absolutely not. but for me, it proved to me, that all that stuff is REAL. and it serves to me as proof and encouragement to continue my training. ps: after that experience, i stick strictly to Theravada. used to dabble in a mish-mash of everything including Advaita, Hinduism, Mahayana, Vajrayana, etc. good luck, and may all beings (omitting none) be free from suffering...

also, do NOT underestimate that part about training in Sila. unless you like the feeling of drowning, lol.
