the issue with ai is that it takes patterns across the internet and amalgamates them; thats why the bee ended up so good, because there are so many bee patterns. the fear of ai taking over the art community comes from the fact its stealing other peoples art :

I doubt that AI will be able to do mid-level patterns any time soon. AIs like ChatGPT have an issue with generalizing. Let me explain that for the non-CS people: what they did was gather as much data as possible from various sources, label them (i.e., tell the AI how to interpret the information), train the model, validate the model, and then test it. Training means that the AI learns the information, similar to how you'd learn vocabulary/spelling or that 2+2=4. Validation is the important step to ensure the AI can make connections, like from 2+2=4 to 2+1=3 (i.e., understanding the meaning of the +), and correct the AI when needed. This is usually a back-and-forth process of training and validating repeatedly with different batches of data. In the end, a "small" batch of data is used to test how well the AI is performing and to rate it. ChatGPT and generally large language models have the issue that they require vast amounts of data for the training and validation process, and the test data cannot adequately represent the complex problems we don't yet know we will have. Of course, this is being worked on, and the AI is fine-tuned manually by skilled programmers. However, crochet is such a niche that I doubt anyone is actively trying to fix the pattern generation, which is a complicated task even for humans. There are a lot of bad patterns out there, and a non-crocheter cannot tell if they are bad or not. Furthermore, I doubt there’s enough data available to properly train the AI in the first place. I assume ChatGPT is great at doing circles because there are many tutorials for it, and it learned how to do a circle in a way similar to learning 2+2=4. The different tutorials basically say the same thing over and over again, which is great for AI to learn. Thank you for listening to my TED Talk, and I hope I could calm down people about AI and help you guys understand how it works.

What regular people fail to realize about AI (speaking as an IT specialist who uses AI tools on a regular basis) is that AI is simply an "empty brain" you first need to educate on specific topics before expecting it to do anything. It's like those memes where they teach you in class that 1 + 1 = 2 and then on the test be like "Calculate the mass of the Sun". Yeah, it's not going to work, unless you actually spend time educating it on existing patterns, increases and crocheting math. And even then it's not 100% guaranteed that it's going to work, because, well... AI is just re-processing information it already has.

Hi! I've looked this up and it seems as these big companies already know the issue and are solely responsible for findig a solution for their excess water consumption/ reusing the heat that their servers generate so that they don't have to use water to cool it down. It is quite dangerous to take the blame for climate change when we know exactly that the majority of it is caused by governmental decisions, rich people and big companies. Yes, we are responsible for our own decisions in life but Paige (and the rest of us) is not the one to blame here.

Yes, if you give it a a good amount of details it’ll give you a pattern that is probably mostly accurate (I’ve been curious myself how it works so I checked that a while back) unfortunately as someone already mention it collects information from patterns that already are published. For sure AI won’t be able to be as good as a real person in creating but I think it’s a great tool to speed up writing a pattern if you have a knowledge about crocheting or knitting and are able to adjust what AI ’created’ (like when you’ve made a solid amount of things using a patterns or you write your own you can easily predict what will be the end result by only looking on written pattern). I hope what I wrote makes sense somehow😅

There are several issues with AI generation. First the energy expended for it to “create” is ridiculous. Second, the real problem is that it can generate amazing photos of crocheted projects and then the patterns are nothing like the photos. Some very unscrupulous people set up ads for amazingly beautiful projects in order to sell patterns. Then unsuspecting people believe that the pattern will ultimately make said projects. Not so. If you had done a quick search on KZbin of AI generated patterns you could have completely skipped making this video and not have used the AI app at all. You could have linked the YT videos as you asked and answered the question, “Can AI actually make crochet patterns?” The more makers that fall for the deception out there, the more wasted energy. I appreciate your efforts in calming your audience, but a little research would have simplified your efforts.

keep being yourself, generative AI, such as ChatGPT and others, only barely do what data in were in the training, it only gives a clumsy repetition, people are capable of making creative work, and AI is assuming the normalization of lack of independent thinking.

Please. PLEASE. DO NOT MAKE IT A SERIES. I am personally completely against the use of most kinds of AI, but most notably anything that is art related (writing, image, video, or pattern generating.) The more you use these kinds of tools the ""better"" they will be programmed to get because higher demand=higher need for innovation, meaning more work from real artists will need to be unrightfully stolen to feed it. AI is constantly developing but if we unencourage it's use in all art fields ONLY then will we artists not be at risk. Please think it carefully.
@the_homun_system5 ай бұрын
would definitely at the very least research the environmental impacts of these sorts of models before making any further series. if the ethical issues of training on other designers work is not something you object to then perhaps at least the impacts its having on the physical world around us shouldnt be something acceptable. however. i do mean this not as anything mean. if neither of those are things you are concerned about then i will simply engage with other content creators.
