Growing up with an alcoholic father. I kinda grew up with a fear of alcohol. I never drank alcohol until I was 22 years old. At this age I felt comfortable that I knew alcohol wouldn’t consume me. I’ve never been drunk. I have a drink here and there but never more than 1 drink. The Bible tells us to not be drunk. Different case for everyone. For people that have always struggled with alcohol it would probably be best to stay away. Just my opinion.

This is something I’ve pondered a lot. I’ve grown to learn to enjoy a drink more so than getting black out drunk which the Bible is against. My spiritual conviction is that I can enjoy a few but to know when to shut it down and not go to far. Others don’t have that and some have a darker issue that gets worse with alcohol. If you have family that has struggled with it or you know you have an issue controlling it, it’s best not to. It’s different for everyone but I’m glad the issue is being discussed.

Isn’t drinking and being merry glorifying god?

What about other substances like drugs? For me, this is an obvious sin, with many Scriptures to back it up. But I also have a Christian friend who uses many of the same alcohol justifications and logic you gave in this very video to justify and rationalize certain ways of engaging in certain drugs (such as legalized marijuana, mushrooms, psychedelics, etc.) that doesn’t lead to addiction. They say to me: “Like alcohol, there’s a way of enjoying God’s creation to the glory of God, and that you putting a yoke on people and judging others based on your own personal convictions or personal interpretation of Scripture is unloving and wrong.” When I bring up Scriptures about being “sober minded”, they argue that “even Christians who don’t get drunk, still consume alcohol for its mind altering effect, otherwise they would just drink water at the wedding at Cana and never drink alcohol at all.” So they say “in the same way, there is a way to consume God’s other creation that is permissible.” They are in Christian community with me and as much as I try to avoid this topic/debate, it periodically comes up and the conversations are quite difficult.

i would also like to hear about marijuana and other natural drugs that can be ingested in natural form. I would assume everything they spoke about in the video applies. (about needing relationship not rules in order to guide you etc. ) but I have heard a lot of christians switch their stance from alcohol to marijuana (marijuana being a hard no). They say its impossible to smoke and not be intoxicated when in reality its different for each individual just like alcohol. That's my thought on it. but its surrendered to God.
