Been Brewing for sometime. I brew on a Spike 20 Gallon Double Batch System. I used to bottle, but went to cans for convivence. I also have the Ocktober Sl1 seamer. My issue used to be carbonation as well. I went to using the Carb Lids for the kegs and have had success. Maybe you can try them and do a video on them. You have good knowledge and really good videos...Keep it going!!! I live in Martinsburg WV (Eastern Panhandle), about 75 miles Northwest of Washington D.C.

@@ShortCircuitedBrewers I watched one of you other videos regarding the Accuracy of Refractometer Calibration. Here is a question. If I have a beer that the meter says 1.074 OG and the FG 10.24 that leaves 5 and if you multiply that by 131.25, that equates to 6.56 abv. If I had a beer that the meter read 1.090 OG and the FG was 1.040 that equates to a 6.56 abv. So I guess the question is this wouldn't the plus or minus be on both ends of the spectrum; meaning, what does it matter? Am I missing something?

Great video. I do canning. I use a calculator from Northern brewing that tells me how much sugar to add when I can. I put it in the sugar after transferring the beer to my bottling bucket. I read a article talking about can conditioning can't remember what magazine it was. But they said to add 1/2 teaspoon of yeast. If I find that article I'll send it your way. I've had a couple of gushers, but overall everything had come out with the right amount of foam. Saves me a bunch of money on not having to spend on CO2. I'm pleased with the results so far. Cheers!

One Thing that works pretty well is that you take a bit of your wort and store it cold. Then put it in a keg with yeast and your already fermented beer and let it work a bit and then fill it in whatever you like. You will be able to safe a lot of time and money with this method. I work in a German Weißbier brewery and this is how we do our Flaschengärung (second fermentation). Edit: Turn your Keg upside down when second fermenting so the yeast gets a nice stir when you tap.

Love your videos. Watched your entire Brewery build and got alot of good ideas for mine that I'm building. Love the pot filler faucet that I'm including now in mine.

Cool little experiment, does seem like it would be safer than bottle conditioning

I am using Keg, if I get leftovers it is going in to 1L bottles and sugar carbonating. I love my Keg 😊
@brewallday51243 жыл бұрын
We went from bottling to kegging to canning. Kegging is still the easiest and best quality method. However, canning offers a great alternative for when we want to finish off a keg to clear up space or when we want to travel elsewhere with the beer.

I'd be curious about aging big beers in cans, like imperial stouts, barleywines, etc. Maybe side by side with some bottles form the same batch.
@ShortCircuitedBrewers3 жыл бұрын
That would be a good experiment! 👍🍻

I came here to say the same thing. I've cellard a few Belgian Triples and some Imperial stouts for 2 years before in capped bottles. I can't say any of them were memorable.

Did you try this on a NEIPA yet? I made a 10 gallon batch and was going to try this out. Wondering about how much headspace to leave and sugar or caps to use. Thanks.

Great video...great topic. I'm considering adding a small kettle ale SS Brewtech mini to do 2.5 gallon batches in between my regular 10 gallon batches. These would experimental or special brews and canning would be a great way to package and present them. My big question is will oxidation be a big problem? Or maybe better, will canning reliably and consistent keep my beers fresh over a period of weeks. Loving your content...keep going!
@ShortCircuitedBrewers3 жыл бұрын
That is a question of mine as well. I will be exploring it! 👍🍻

After seeing the $0.30 extra for cans, not adding in the price of the canner itself, starts to reduce the cost savings by brewing my own. Caps are not bad at one cent, but the cleaning is another step you can argue into the costs but kegs are quick and CO2 doesn't cost much and using a unitank and natural carbing the beer, seems to be the best all round solution... Now if Oktober wants to send me free stuff, I'll do it!!
@ShortCircuitedBrewers3 жыл бұрын
Haha.. I was just throwing it out there.. it probably was just nonsense...lol

@@ShortCircuitedBrewers If the costs were scaled back it would be a more viable option. Entry cost of over $1k will keep this from reaching most people as bottles are available for free in some areas.
@mousetrapbrewing95663 жыл бұрын
@@RiggerBrew I have the cannular pro. That is 650. I don’t have any issues with it. Could never justify spending 1k on something you can get one just as good for 400 cheaper. The is also semi auto so you just have to push a button to seam it. You can also do the regular cannular which is around 450-500

Nice one, I always get tempted by canning my beer until I see the price of the can seamers 😅. Note that you can always bottle (not cans I think) directly from your kegerator using an Itap or a nukatap adapter from Kegland.
@ShortCircuitedBrewers3 жыл бұрын
Yeah do they offer a counter pressure filler?
@rafaelpestano74363 жыл бұрын
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers yea, with both you can do counter pressure. I think you can attach a beer gun to the nukatap adapter (It's a ball lock conection on the tap) and maybe fill cans, but you still need a can seamer

Was the mouthfeel different? I've read that Treehouse would naturally carbonate because it helps with the mouthfeel. I have always been interested in keg conditioning or now can conditioning and seeing if the mouthfeel is different. I have the ability to can so I am going to experiment with this! Thanks.

I have no place to put a kegerator and I've been considering doing exactly what you demonstrated here. I have been cleaning bottles since 1993; I didn't like it then and it's not the sort of thing that grows on you.

But the costs of always buying cans can be expensive while bottles are reusable.
