No. It can't. It's how you use data that can save the planet. The choices. For example, people have known for a very long time that destroying rainforests shall have a catastrophic consequences for the planet. Basically, all crucial data is on the hands already. The problem is still unsolved. Same goes for many other climat problems. Just having more data does not save the planet. Information can only be helpful to the process only if there is an actual process. Which is (sadly) often decided by things like man's greed and ignorance. p.s. Still, IBM may be onto something good here. But "saving the planet" is too much too optimistic of a phrase.

I can understand what your getting at so equality was another winner of the IBM Call for Code. I’d put my money on a company that stamps there responsibilities with action. I trust their on a good journey. Keeping my fingers crossed. We should all do something we can do. Not just point fingers.

you seem to only have read the title and not have seen the video. I invite you to watch it. From watching it you may find that although the data itself may not save the planet, it is the tools by which we analyze the data that will enable humanity to save the planet. This is because without accurate and robust information analytics tools and without enough data, we will probably end up making the wrong choices.

What they IBM want to save is shareholder avarice & profits at the expense of 95% of the rest of humanity's quality of life, or even survival. Talk like this is merely dope for dunderheadness deluxe, tyanny, piggery perpetuated...
