Can DSP's Mesa Boogie Do Metallica's Justice / Black Album Tone Tho?

There is no slaving with the Marshall god damnit. And Justice used 2 parametric EQ’s in the loop. And it was slaved into a Mesa Strategy 400 power amp. And it was a C++ Look at the studio notes instead of just guessing.

@@sadistdog Yeah, the studio notes are very detailed. I haven’t tried this plugin yet, but I own several IIC+ and IIC++ amps. This is the first plug-in I’ve seen videos of that actually sounds like the real amp. I’d say use the C++ version, try the amp settings shown in the notes and do a more classic V shape on the GEQ. Because James used the parametric EQ(s) to boost highs and lows and scoop mids. That’s why he used such a low V curve.

@@sadistdog No worries! 😀 As I said, I haven’t tried it yet. But it sounds like it should be close. You can most probably get a Metallica tone with it. But to get real close you must add EQ. And as you can see on the studio notes for Battery it says 300W cabinets. Which means G12T-75 speakers. Those are quite different to the Mesa V30 that’s included in this plug-in.

Set the input at -6 or -10 and you'll get much closer. I had the same problem, but the plugin sounds fantastic if you dont give it too much input

@@Andrea-qg5ykOn the Mesa Mark amps, if you’re looking for really tight, high gain, you always want to keep the bass between 2 (not 2:00) or off, IMO. Because of the way the tone controls work, the bass, middle, and treble (which also adds gain the higher you set it) sculpt the gain character and you can then adjust with the graphic eq sliders.

I was able to get a much better tone with more dialing in than you did. You have to use the 10 band EQ as well, and kinda move around the SM57s in mic placement. This plug in is quite capable of those classic album tones

Justice's tone WAS done on the mesa, have a look at the production notes. Literally gives you all the settings. Also Justice's tone isnt just 0 mids and all gain, have a look mate

Well you wouldn't be playing through the Marshall, you'd be slaving it. Apparently this is false so I'm not sure about the kinks of it.

@@ryangreene50this is true. MOP was mesa slaving a marshall and Justice was mostly just mesa. I think they brought back marshalls along with the Mark V for the black album though I could bd wrong

Why are you not using the MKIIC ++? This is the amp that James used for all those tones not the MKIIC+

Looks like the graphic "M" EQ here is what they actually played live to get the thicker tone. The V GEQ was for the album. And of course the parametric which Hetfield has always kept secret
