It was just kinetic energy. The point of that was to show the West they cannot intercept Oreshnik, so if Russia DID put payload on the missiles, there's nothing that could be done to stop it. It was a reality check.

Why this BBC discussion is shallow is because he ends up saying UK has some technology to take out drones, and Ukraine has the most evolving drone technology. He does not mention Russia. The Russian strikes that took out the electricity grid in Ukraine was mostly with drones. The UK does not have war experience with drones, Russia has the greatest drone expertise and combined arms warfare expertise in battle hardened conditions, and they have an incredible arsenal. The UK claimed the Challenger was invincible but they were taken out by drones. Instead of having a discussion admiring oneself, let us have an analysis of what Russia has.

Zelensky didn't try to prevent the conflict through diplomacy because he lacks honor and integrity. In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of people were burned alive). Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbas. If Zelensky honored the Minsk agreement and pledged neutrality, none of this would have happened. The 8 year civil war would have ended and Donbas would have remained part of Ukraine. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy. Zelensky, Poroshenko, Merkel and Hollande admitted that Ukraine had no intention to honor the Minsk agreements. Who didn't want peace? Who advised against the 2022 peace talks in April? Hint: someone visited Zelensky in Kiev at that time. Russia's national security was compromised once NATO began to expand eastwards. Russia clearly stated that Ukraine joining NATO was a red line (November 2021) and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated: if nothing changes, we will be forced to act in order to defend our national security. Enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns. 20th September, 2021: Ukraine launched military drills with US and NATO. NATO is not a defensive alliance. NATO illegally bombed Yugoslavia (a direct violation of the U.N. Charter). We should never forget what they did to Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq etc. Who blew up the pipeline causing an environmental disaster? Zelensky banned all opposition and arrested a leading priest. The azov troops trapped in the azovstal steelworks in Mariupol used human shields. They refused to allow civilians to leave despite of humanitarian corridors being present. Russia held a proposed cease fire in order for the civilians to leave, but azov would not allow the civilians to leave. Ukraine has committed many acts of terrorism (car bombs and other forms of assassination). Darya Dugina (journalist) R.I.P. The first terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed the truck driver and the individuals in the adjacent car (innocent civilian victims). The second terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed two parents and severely injured their young daughter. I have done a lot of research and it took me a long time to write this comment. I have stated a lot of facts and I have given my honest opinion. I have provided a brief summary of events that took place. In order to explain this whole situation in great detail, a book would need to be written. Hopefully someone will write an UNBIASED book, stating facts and allowing the readers to form their own judgments. Everything I said can be fact checked and verified.

Simple answer: You can’t. How do you handle multiple projectiles from a single package? Each package contains 8 projectiles, if I’m not mistaken, and you can fire 8-12 interceptors at once. To deal with just 2 packages (16 projectiles), you’d need over 100% interception success-an impossible feat, assuming you can intercept any at all.

It's even worse. Russia fired just 1 missile, the missile carried 6 warheads , each warhead had 6 submunitions. In effect, Russia hit Ukraine with 36 kinetically charged submunition travelling at Mach 10. If they fire 2 missiles that is 72 at Mach 10. There is a REASON NATO called an emergency meeting. The destruction of those submunitions was beyond belief. Keep in mind it was caused by just kinetic energy. The UK and Europe are kidding themselves if they think they can stop something like that. The Aegis Ashore is a land-based, defensive missile system that identifies, tracks, and intercepts ballistic missiles. It is part of NATO's missile shield, along with U.S. Navy destroyers from Rota Spain, and an early-warning radar in Kurecik, Türkiye. An Aegis Ashore system became operational in Deveselu, Romania in 2016 and another one became operational in Redzikowo, Poland this summer.

@bubba842 The Aegis Standard Missile -3 (SM-3) Block II travels at Mach 13.2. I don't think it can intercept the Oreshnik before separation however, unless it's close enough. So maybe it can protect Europe, to some extent, but Ukraine ain't getting Aegis. We don't know really know enough yet. All indications are that there will be another strike in Ukraine on November 30 and this one won't have dummy warheads. There's a strong chance that there will significant reassessments after that, but we'll see.

It is a fully integrated global network, complete with targeting, load balancing, threat handoff, and interoperability to land/sea/air/space. It is the most advanced combat system in the world and the only one of its kind. The Aegis Ashore installation in Poland is just another leg of the Aegis sensor network. Missiles travelling at mach 11 or mach 10, that come from an MIRV that breaks into 6 separate missiles and can move in the air. It's safe to say, no they cannot be intercepted. Even if we intercepted 35/36 (which we can't) still one would get through.
