Can Gabe Vincent Play a Key Role for the Lakers This Year? Plus, More on JJ Redick's Approach.

Max Christie's contract extension this summer has made him a major point of interest in training camp, because people want to see if the Lakers will get the return they want (and many want to validate their view that Christie should have been playing more last year).
A version of the same storyline applies to Gabe Vincent, too. He missed most of last year with an injury, robbing the Lakers of a rotation piece representing their big money signing from that summer. Vincent's absence meant the Lakers spent the season short at guard, too.
So can Vincent, who has received a lot of praise in the early days of camp, step up and play a key role for LA this year? What do they need from him, exactly?
Meanwhile, Thursday's practice in El Segundo featured more players talking in more detail about Redick's management style. Very efficient, very clear. The communication, early reviews say, has been very good. Even in his moments of sparring with the media, Redick has shown a very specific POV around words and communication that give clues as to his style behind the scenes.

Andy when JJ said creating "clarity for the players" when referring to the starting lineup is a huge detail that lends itself toward building confidence and defining roles. This is no small detail.

Brian, I'm a homer and I don't apologize, missing Vincent and Vanderbilt were huge losses to depth, chemistry and continuity. You are correct when you place loss value on not having Vincent (and Vanderbilt) last year.

I do believe Miami knew Gabe Vincent was injured based on they did this with Nunn, we should not put the cart before the horse reserve judgment until Gabe Vincent has the opportunity to either flourish or flounder

Nunn wasn’t injured when he signed with the lakers. He got hurt in preseason with the lakers. Gabe got hurt in the playoffs with Miami and they kept it quiet.

I’m excited for the return Lakers basketball. It was a long uneventful offseason.Ironically, the Lakers are trying to spin hiring a completely inexperienced head coach and the availability of a couple of underused/injured players as a substitute for making moves to improve the roster. Seems like fluff to me but we’ll soon see.

Gabe is feeling healthy!!! Consummate gym rat. Teams hate to play against guys like Gabe. Lots of value and I agree, his voice was missed last year. He brings a persona that DLo and AR can't bring. Gabe can become a poor man's Rondo off the bench.

Gabe is a good defensive player but offensively his not going to contribute much. His best year was 9 ppg thats not much.
