I think Android users who are locked into GMS is no different from IOS users who are locked into iCloud and Apple services. We just fail to see it. I for one, am glad that Huawei never stops building. They're not the least bit distracted or interested in what the US administration is doing, in fact, 6G is already in development in China from some articles I've read. I'm most looking forward to HarmonyOS - Their future ecosystem that is compatible with both google apps and IOS apps and is expected to run both ecosystems seamlessly into one. Not even Apple or Google at this point has thought that far. Because everyone is just so distracted by competition and losing their primary vision. Alternatives are good. Variety is good. And I'm fortunate enough in my region in southeast Asia, to have almost every brand of smartphone in our stores - with or without contract.

@@sivecruze1247 yes! So does other Brands of computers too. It doesn't matter the car's brand, it runs on Gasoline, diesel, natural gas, water, hydrogen or Electric. You just have to do some modification. People are Brained wash to think that only Google is the way to go. Spain was a world power once, so was Italy, Greece, France, England. Just because you are the current world super power does not means you will be in the future. With all the rage with Electric cars now does not mean it will be the dominant one in the future. I still think it will be hydrogen. Why? Because no Giant Company is attacking electric car like they are with Hydrogen cars.

@Kyle Duyck okay, you are right. I am sorry I don't know that. Nothing will ever compete with IOS and Android. 6G will be way off in the future. Only use by the Chinese military because there will be no worldwide agreement on the 6G standard. Like you said F22 and F35 are okay for now. Just the same as 3G and 4G.

Hey everyone. It’s me - just popping in to say I’ve been reading all your comments and finding that there are a lot of insightful points from both sides of the fence. Part of the reason I decided to do this video, is one, I think someone needs to say it, but two, I think it’s an important conversation we all need to be having. So as you continue to share your thoughts, and I encourage that you do, please also explain your thinking behind your points, don’t just give me a YES or NO, I trust this company and not this company, I choose to do this or that, but also the whys, the thinking behind your choices. And of course let’s not get heated, and continue to respect each other while we constructively debate. Cheers.

I recently bought a P40 Pro, and while it's sometimes annoying that I can't download Google apps, I've been able to live with it. In fact, I quite like some HMS apps. The built-in browser has a "night mode" feature which will change the website background to dark grey and also lower the brightness, it allows you to search in page (Cmd+F/Ctrl+F but on mobile devices), and it also has a desktop site toggle. The desktop one doesn't work very well, especially with sites like m.youtube.com or m.facebook.com (it doesn't go to youtube.com or facebook.com), but it's still a nice feature to have.

@@timtsao8749, correct. This is the FUD, Fear Uncertainty Doubt, the strategy used in sales and marketing. It is to discourage customers to try new things and "locked" them in the existing Ecosystem. The US technology ban on Huawei is expected as US has a history of using *unfair* business practices to kill their competitors, www.straitstimes.com/asia/east-asia/former-exec-of-french-firm-alstom-yesterday-alstom-today-huawei-and-tomorrow Huawei will suffer in the short-term by the US ban (ban on GMS and micro chips that use less than 10% of US technology in the manufacturing process , Kirin TSMC) but it force Huawei to develop everything from R&D to manufacturing of the hardware and software in-house. @@noefvon Xiaomi is almost ad free if you manually turn them off. You kinda need a Xiaomi account for most of that to happen, which is weird, but it at least get the job done. Huawei is basically the new Apple because they have their own ecosystem that, at this moment, still exclusive to their own devices, but with that in mind it's almost as seamless as Apple devices at this point. Also, several brands (BBK, OPPO, Vivo, OnePlus, iQOO, RealMe) are basically founded by the same person so those are a single ecosystem as well, though only for accessories (say, they share the same quick charge technology).

Great video! I remember back at the beginning of Google services on Android. They actually had some competition from obscure services that offered competing app stores. They weren't all that good, but it was at least a choice. Amazon, as you mentioned, also thought they could do at least a good enough job to steer some profits to them instead of Google. Now one thing they all have(had) in common was they did use Googles base apps like Mail and Docs, so it wasn't all that bad to try out someone else because you still get the basics.....but I agree we all need an alternative here. Putting all your eggs in one basket is a really bad idea in the long term. Glad to see a company big enough to do this despite the fact they were forced to. We (the US) aren't the only game in town, there's a big world out there that makes us look pathetic sales wise and Huawei will still win that market over.

My current guess is that they will move toward SMIC for chip fabrication and find alternatives for US software such as Cadence. Even from a year ago, Chinese were talking about bolstering fabrication capabilities and SMIC is supposed to start producing 7nm chips this year. Of course things are more complicated, when you enter companies such as ASML into the equation, but what I have said can be an overall picture.

The same can be said of those relying very heavily on Apple Apps and Im sure Apple are very happy with the Huawei ban as Huawei tech and handsets were overtaking theirs. My Mate 10 Pro was shockingly good for it's time and even now it's no slouch. I would definitely consider a Huawei handset in the future if they stopped with the excessive curved screens and did something radical like bringing back the headphone jack! :)

People are crying out because of their too much dependence on Google Services, Huawei is trying to open their eyes that they are being owned by Google, it is good to decentralized your sources, this is how important Huawei is. In fact Josh is right there are lots of app store out there not only Play Store, they are just limiting to Google. Huawei is doing an important role in the tech commnuity that maybe realized more in the future.

I will never go back to IPhone after 7th. Samsung and Huawei is my interest. Used to have Samsung 8, but when I heard Huawei and the ban from US. I join the Rebellion and give my Samsung away to a friend and brought myself a Huawei P20. Not regretting, and I love it.

Really interesting point. The market is so full of people who are so focused on Hwawei Vs the world that we forget that the way Google Play is being used as a trading chip only proves that there is a monopoly when it comes to app sources. I agree that we should diversify our use of apps, whether its on a Hwawei phone or not

I have an Honor 20 and it's amazing. I have been a fan of Huawei and honor for some time now. I was tired of paying hundreds of dollars for phone. This Honor 20 cost 250 American and its a freaking beast. I side load most apps I use anyway which is easy af on Android.

Great video talking a lot of sence. However, you missed one highly relevant point, GMS is very taxing to our batteries. Friends who have bought devices in China, sans Google apps, get 2 to 3 hours more screen on time. When they get back to the UK or USA, they load up GMS and the usual apps and reveal that 25 to 30% of their SOT has vanished. Thanks for this video I've subscribed

How much you have been paid by Huawei? Supporting copycats. We should support fair competition. But who is the competetor is very important. If it is done by innovative companies like Samsung, LG, Sony, I can accept. But companies like Xiaomi, Huawei are not. They didn't get the trust of consumers. Recently Xiaomi also got into privacy issues. Please don't support companies for money. But I definitely like your honesty. You have mentioned that this video is paid promotion. Android central doesn't include any disclaimer.

well... it's a bit more than using APKPure. some apps use GMS services like Google Auth (Gmail & email sign in), Firebase, Google Maps, etc. so even if you manage to download the app via APKPure, you might not be able to use the app

I'm getting tired of closed ecosystems, and I don't want to jump from one to another. I want to know that no company or government gets to decide what I can and can't access. That's why I've started moving away from Android and desktop apps as a whole, and started using webapp alternatives. I still end up using a lot of Google services, though, and it really frustrates me how they build their webapps to be so much worse than their native apps, but that's also a good incentive to find alternatives to youtube, gmail, google maps, etc.

I have been utilizing Google for many years. But being forced to choose, I'm going with Huawei. If Googel services isn't easily useable on my new Huawei P40, I won't bother with installing Google Play. I just find other applications. When I next buy a tablet, probably Huawei Matepad with 5G, I may not have Netflix and KZbin anymore. If you force me to choose, I will always go for the other side!

The main concern with Huawei smartphones: 1.) It doesn’t have Google Services 2.) The flagship hardware is as par as IPhone/Samsung but much more expensive 3.) The marketing is very aggressive yet so bland

Recently bought a huawei Y5P model. I could clearly seen how Google stop Huawei from using everything under its platform. KZbin , google maps , google translate and you name it. I can't even sign in using my google account. It is a total different world there. Not to mention whatsapp facebook all left blank. Luckily Im able to download the apk from PC, save the apps inside the SD card then install into the phone and it still works! only a bit awkward though.

Great Video. This is why I still think that it is wise for Samsung to revisit its plan to have their own OS. You can make a review on that, to see what they did, where they reached, and why or how or where they fail. I think it will a great review so long as competition always brings improvement in the quality of services and products being offered rather than a monopoly where people don't have freedom of choice. Currently, the smartphone world is dominated by DUOPOLY, where a client can either choose iOS or GMS which isn't healthy in the service industry when considering the welfare of clients.

I hope they can, and believe they will survive. It's over to them to build an independent, yet easy to use and familiar looking OS and ecosystem, this unfortunately will take some time. Not because they lack software, but because it takes time for key players to adopt. Take Google Pay as a KEY feature, how long can it take for Huawei to get a system up and running similar to Google/Apple Pay? Not very long, but it will take quite a while for banks, retailers and other key players to adopt it. This is what I'm waiting for.
