As a moving enthusiast myself, I can tell you have improved so, so much. You're flawlessly 5K-ing rounds now that you wouldn't have a few weeks ago using the techniques you were taught. Failed rounds are always a learning experience. You'll get the sub 10 minutes seed, I trust. 🙏
@QuincyDahm2 ай бұрын
Susanville fire department was turbo bait. Tuolumne county was all you needed to 5k though. Most CA counties have a city or POI of the same name on the map. Since you found Susanville so quickly, you probably could have also found the city of Tuolumne.
@ExpedientFalcon2 ай бұрын
To be fair, that is specific to California. Many states do not have the same county-city relationship.
@Demonwolf21212 ай бұрын
@@ExpedientFalcon True, but CA might be a state worth knowing these things. Google is headquartered there and therefore there is a ton of coverage throughout the state. More coverage = higher chance to show up = higher priority to know
@ExpedientFalcon2 ай бұрын
@@Demonwolf2121 True, not saying this isn't useful. In fact, it's really useful to know that this is a CA thing. Just that in some states, this can indeed be a trap because you'll never find the county name on a map.

11:13 You can delete/change your checkpoint! Press [CZC] If you want to change it, hit [C] to return to checkpoint (which unsaves it), then [Z] to go back to the new desired checkpoint, then hit [C] again to save :)
@miallo2 ай бұрын
Funny - the [Z] depends on the keyboard layout... On a German one it is [Y] :D Though having it on the same physical key (key code) makes more sense in the way that it is closer to the left hand
@miallo2 ай бұрын
Also: in general, he should use the undo more often, e.g. if he decides that he returned to start and forgot to set a checkpoint
@arrowheaded2 ай бұрын
@miallo Hard agree, the undo key is extremely helpful. It's interesting to know that the letter of different for other keyboard layouts!

What has happened to the coaching vids for your 25k games? Those were interesting.
@Matthew_F2 ай бұрын
I would suggest trying to 5k without a time limit so you can really figure out the right things to do, then as you get better add the time limit back in. If you cant do it slow, you cant do it fast.
@PhatInAHat2 ай бұрын
Maybe time to switch back to focusing on getting something like 4800s as quickly as possible (ideally sub 1 minute, but max 2 minutes)? Precise 5king seems unnecessarily frustrating and you don't even need to do them in tournaments - in fact taking the time to 5k can waste valuable seconds which your opponent can use to find more info. It's good that you're learning and honing these moving techniques, but ultimately they should be put to use in getting as near as possible in a very quick time.
@drew502 ай бұрын
tweaked world doesn't seem to be a perfect map for 5ks i wonder if you could instead get a moving pro to hook you up with some custom 5 location maps. have them rated by difficulty maybe 5-10 maps or so for each difficulty level and 5-10 levels of difficulty
@sayansingha63702 ай бұрын
it is a map designed for playing moving, however obviously not all locs are of equal difficulty. The 5k's that he missed were not really the map's fault

I don't really feel invested in the rounds after you already mucked up the 25k. I have to applaud your completionism, but I still would prefer you to reset.

I love this series, but ... This comes from someone with little firsthand geoguessr experience, so take it as you please : I feel you're playing against the clock too much, scanning the map when you don't have solid useable info yet in the hope of getting it done quickly. I wouldn't mind watching you focus on 25k-ing no matter how long it takes, and then only trying to improve the time. I hope you won't give up the challenge, though ! Full support

unpopular opinion: I actually appreciate when pros show the struggles as well as the wins. It can get realllllyyy discouraging but its at least nice to know that pros have these days/moments as well. That being said, rest is also a good idea maybe 🤔
@michaelwisniewski60472 ай бұрын
Tbh I don’t know why do this. It’s clearly frustrating to you. In the World Cup you have like a minute and noone expects a 5k. What you need to win there is have very close region guesses for which you need to know landscapes, regional metas, road numbering systems, place name knowledge and knowledge of what to look for where. You don’t need any of what takes you ages here: lining up the exact bit of road or inner city street corner. Wouldn’t it be better if you measured yourself to WC standards, like “can I get to within 10km in one minute?” It would be more fun to watch too.
@PhatInAHat2 ай бұрын
Agreed - I've mentioned this before.
@zecdi2 ай бұрын
yh he honestly might just benefit from trying to get as close to the location as possible in 1 minute and set a 1 min timer for each round. for world cup , getting the region down e.g 4900 is better than 5king and taking so much more time

those "bathtub-rings" around the edges of the water way are a strong tell to an artificial lake/dam instead of a standard river/lake. not that half of the lakes in California aren't created by dams but it would have limited what you scanned for.

FYI, on that first round… that “Cal Fire” truck is the state wide wildfire service. It was from the Susanville TRAINING Center, so it would be based there but could be on a training trip, land clearing job or a fire anywhere in the state. The “river” was the arm of a reservoir, in CA (and most western states) you can tell it is a reservoir by that “bath tub ring” where the water level is lower than normal due to the droughts. Lastly, Tuolumne County is pronounced /tuˈɒləmi/ or to-wall-a-me. Not that any of that would have helped make that round less difficult.
