This is a series of videos to showcase paddling trails in South Florida. Most of these trails will be for all types of paddle craft; SUP, Canoe, and Kayak... But if any locations are more friendly to one type than the other I will note that in the video.
Episode 1: Winding Waters Natural Area
Location: 6161 Haverhill Rd, West Palm Beach, FL 33407
Hours: open from dawn to dusk
Type of paddle craft: Canoe and kayak. Although it is possible to SUP here, the presence of alligators may deter paddle boarding.

"This 548-acre natural area contains mesic flatwoods, hydric hammock, depression marsh, wet prairie, and dome swamp. Several areas were cleared for agricultural purposes and have been restored to shallow-water and deep-water marshes. Birdlife is abundant with bald eagles, anhingas, green herons, belted kingfishers, wood storks, roseate spoonbills, and loggerhead shrikes making appearances. A portion of the trails and parking lot were funded through the Recreational Trails Program"

This is former agricultural land that has been reclaimed and restored to a wetland habitat. It is adjacent to Dyer Park which is the old county waste dump. The water level is crucial to the level of paddling enjoyment... During the dry season or times of heavy drought, the water can get quite shallow in many areas. The canoe and kayak launch ramp is a short walking distance from the parking lot. No bathroom facilities at this location, but are available inside the adjacent county park.
Due to South Florida heat, I recommend paddling here in the early morning or late afternoon. The whole trail can be leisurely paddled in 2 hours.
