Nice map! I do a lot of ball-point pen art, and once you get used to working with it, it is an amazing and under-rated art tool. One of the great advantages is that you can sketch and shade with it just as you would with a pencil. I don't even usually bother with a preliminary pencil sketch, you can rough out the sketch very lightly in ink, and those sketch lines will be covered up once the drawing is fully shaded. One important thing to do when drawing with ball point is to wipe the tip often (about once every 30 to 60 seconds or so). This will prevent ink from accumulating on the tip, which is probably you were experiencing when you said you didn't always know what side of the tip the ink was coming from. If you keep the tip clean you can achieve the same precision as with any other type of pen. Love your channel and the fun maps you create. Cheers!

If I didn’t watch you draw it with that hotel pen I wouldn’t have believed that you actually used the hotel pen haha. Great looking map, especially the mountains!

something I discovered recently ... I have hand trembles from medication & microns show every one BUT ink pens are infinitely more forgiving. Like you I tested on cheap paper with cheap pens then found some with a larger barrel, finer tips & even color ink. I miss the flowy days of microns but better ink than the mess I was making!

It’s so good you haven’t let that discouraged you from creating! Your lines might be different now, but they are still yours. Some might even argue they have more character and personify now! Charles Schulz had a famously shaky hand and he is one of the best cartoonists of all time.

@@JPCoovert LOL definitely more 'character' than before but that's not necessarily a bad thing when you step back & let go of what was to enjoy what is!

Yeah, these sorts of pens are surprisingly versatile. I personally love using very simple shadow shapes to get volume/form in my doodles. These pens get a bad rap, but I almost exclusively use Bic ballpoint pens for all my doodling and sketchbooks. The only time I use pencils and nice pens is for sketching and inking an actual piece of art I'm working on. Otherwise, ballpoints are my go-to tool for taking notes and doodling ideas.

Sometimes it is the simplicity we need, cause so much options are sometimes overwhelming. A pen and a paper you like is enough to create amazing stuff! Map looks really cool, i like it when you make simple maps :)
