Chris, if you would put up your pallets to hous the split wood, then take the boiler baskets full of extra wood and put them around the newly built bins and put your split wood piles in there, it would be strong enough to house the newly split wood and would take up less space by making it a more compact area and build on the structural integrity of the newly built baskets

Maine actually has a legal definition for a “loose thrown cord” as 180 cu/ft. If you’re ever in doubt of what you grab from a pile. I have a little 6x10 trailer, makes for easy math.

That cherry is some good wood give the meat that nice red color. Almost impossible to find here. I found have half cord for 40 bucks. That was in log form. It make some great meat. Keep up the good work.

My rule is no more then 5 feet to the center of the pile. You get up to 8 foot or more to the center of the stack, even with the wind, the core will stay wet.

Any chance at all that the plastic pallets would be good for holding down the tarps on top of the piles this winter? Just might hold up better than the wood ones during the winter ? Unless you are going to be using more fence wire to hold the tarps from blowing away ? You know what you are doing and what works for you.

Question on your bins. When you go to deliver wood from a bin, you'll obviously need to pull from the backside of the bin since that would be the oldest wood. Do you plan on removing those pallets in the back to access the wood easier?

It will be used for fill in the low spot in field. There was a fair amount of the pile hauled down there in spring before planting. More will get hauled down there and leveled off when beans come off.
