Those arriving on a tourist visa need to leave and apply at a Russian consulate which takes about 10 days and reenter on the news visa but there are cases where this is waved and the work visa is amended to the current tourist visa. Going somewhere cheap to hand out for 10 days such as Odessa Ukraine or expensive like Estonia or Finland to get the visa. To live in Odessa would be about $35/a day for an apartment and food. I got a work visa as an employee of my own company wholly owned by me but later found it was not needed so kept it only the one year back in 2003. Many self-employed remote workers live on tourist visas because they are not working in Russia, as programmers or consulting doctors who work remotely with service companies in the US or Europe who are the employers of record. Customer service advisers working for US IT companies from anywhere they can get an internet connection is another common job. I think the best way to have income in Russia is to start your own business if you have experience in growing a business. Good ideas that fill a need are easy to grow due to the low taxes and cost of living for the owner, who in other countries with high cost of living, would fail due to burning through their starting capital before profitability. Here is Russia, the costs are so low, the odds of a good plan working before the cash runs out is very possible. Russia is a dream for employers, so many competent effective applicants. The hardest part of doing business in the US is finding and keeping effective employees but in Russia, every applicant is likely to be excellent.

It depends on what kind of job you are looking for? If you are a native English speaker, you will have no problem getting a job in Russia without a bachelor's degree.
