It's all about the totality... I've seen partial's before, but the totality is a whole new ballgame... when there is still sun shining you can only see anything with glasses... during totality the entire sky goes dark, the temperature drops and when the moon is directly in front of the sun it creates something you've never seen nor will never see again...

I live in the path of the totality, I had seen the eclipse a few years ago as a partial eclipse and had the same reaction of "cool but why all the hype". Having seen the totality today was incredible, during the totality you can take your glasses off and easily look up and see a giant black dot surrounded by a halo of white light. Really amazing, plus its incredible to see the moon just shift past the sun enough for the first rays to come out and be unable to look without glasses anymore, that part made me really appreciate seeing the totality.
@marshin72378 ай бұрын
Yeah you don’t really understand the hype unless you see it in totality. 99% doesn’t even compare to 100

i saw the totality in Arkansas (drove from FL!) when the Moon started across the Sun it was cool, but unlike your experience there was anticipation of MORE. the countdown to totality was ELECTRIC. the switch from 99.9 covered to totality was almost shocking - even the tiniest sliver was too bright for naked eyes, then like a switch being flipped - totality & the corona! it was magic. when the sun reemerged everyone had to instantly look away & scramble for their glasses. it was well worth the trip & stress of changing plans for the upteenth time. now i want another! July 22, 2028 in Australia or New Zealand has a nice ring to it

I drove 28 hours round trip with my Dad to get into the path of totality, and after seeing it... we agreed we would easily do double that. Not only did we both agree that it was the most incredible thing we've ever seen, but we felt that it will likely end up being the most incredible thing we ever will see --- unless we get the chance to see another eclipse. I know that sounds dramatic, but it really is the truth haha. Since then we have both dramatically changed our lives. He has lost a bunch of weight, I gave up drinking alcohol, and we have both made significant lifestyle changes at work and within our relationships to live a life we are both more proud of. All of that after seeing something that only lasted 4 minutes. Hopefully that paints somewhat of a picture of how spectacular totality really is. --- Loved the video Simon!
@mattmay63488 ай бұрын
You should have made the drive. Total eclipse is a bucket list item. 99% is the same as 94%. Everything dims, but honestly meh. It is neat to look through glasses and see the moon crossing, but Totality is different. For totality, you watch through the glasses and that crescent becomes a curved sliver. The sliver’s tips fade away, and you get a very short line (reminiscent of looking at a comet). Then, click, the light switch is turned off and it is utterly black through the glasses. You remove them to see a black holed sun with long wavy angel wings of pure white light fluttering and dancing around the void. It explodes into existence as you remove your glasses. It is mesmerizing. Meanwhile, all the animals quiet and you sit in an early nighttime setting. You see the bright planets (Venus was in full spectacular view today). As you enjoy the utter beauty, you want nothing more than to freeze time. You want that moment to go on just a little longer, but the fleeting nature of it is part of what makes it so special. I could hear the kids at school cheering from 5 blocks away. As the sun returned, I felt both thankful and a little sad that the moment was ending. Then, from somewhere in the neighborhood I hear through a serious sound system, the Beatles, “Here comes the sun,” as the moon slowly releases its grip on the sun. It made me smile and appreciate just how great a moment I had just experienced. So, yes, it’s different.

I live in MA and made the drive up to Vermont. Totality is definitely way different than partial. I've seen one or two partial solar eclipses before including the last one in 2017, but this was something different for sure. 360 degree sunset, dark, COLD, and of course getting to see the ring of light around the moon without glasses. Didn't hit traffic on the way there but the way home was some of the worst traffic I've ever been in. I think it was worth it though.

Was my 1st totality and it was a totally different experience! When its dark-ish like it was for you all of a sudden it goes totally dark like someone pinched out the sun like a candle! For like 3 min its dark as night, you can see the stars, and the horizon looks like the most amazing sunset or rise! I did not expect it to be that quick all of a sudden and that dark!

Any partial does not come close to totality. Drove 5 hrs one way to get in path. Best trip ever! So worth it. Having seen partials before, I was like you. Now I understand why a total is so special. I could see Venus and Jupiter. Most cellphones make it appear brighter than it really is. You have to experience a total at least once and you will understand.

I was in Northern Vermont, where I live, during totality. You're right, the difference between 95% and totality was mind-blowing. At 95%, you still couldn't look at the Sun at all with no glasses. The Sun was wicked bright still. All of a sudden, Bam! You could stare at the sun and comfortably see the Sun's corona. It was incredible. Like the whole sky was a movie screen. I had a great view of it from my place. There are some great courses up north here. I think you've played Black Falls, don't think you played Cold Hollow. We have the best woods golf around, and the best crew this side of the eclipse. Hit us up. I'll get you VIP.

Total eclipse is definitely worth a couple of hour drive. It is pretty magical hearing the crickets start almost immediately, the weird shadows, and then super dark. Last chance in our lifetime, so I'd argue it's worth it. I watched this one at 90+ percent and it wasn't much fun. Pretty similar to a normal eclipse.

Even if the sun is showing at .5% it's still too bright for your eyes. The extent to which you can enjoy it is still going to be with the glasses. The moment it hits totality though, you can take your glasses off, you can see stars, there is a shimmering white ring around the moon, you can the solar corona pulsing off the sun, and there is a 360 degree sunset. It's amazing.

I think everyone should see a totality at least once in their life. I finally saw it in 2017; we're standing in a field with a cloudless sky, and suddenly it gets dark, like late dusk. The temperature drops fast enough to give me goosebumps (middle of Summer). A great big hawk lands next to us, like 10 feet away, and just looks at us like... "Is this how it ends?" There are birds all over the place that were flying and suddenly just landed wherever they were. It stays that way for a minute or two, then suddenly it's light again, the temperature spikes back up, and the hawk decides the world isn't ending and flies away. When it was over and the world felt like it went back to normal I thought, "Oh, that's how deities started. That had to be some terrifying shit before we knew what was happening."

I wish to play frisby golf by your side one day man you're are fantastic at golf and would love to get pointers and tips from you to becoming one of the greats I am sure I can get my backhand further but I have been doing foot work form, but pull back form will be next on my list so I am super consistant with the back hand but I will message more here and there so I let you know ahead of time if I joined any leagues or tournaments and let you know what I won man no matter if you see this message or respond. I'm Coming to the top! Been grinding for 7 years now my ADD with putting never really helped but switching to left hand made me to where I dont think about how I do my full form and follow through, and have fun playing with the pro players and casual rounds say Hi to vinny for me, and also kyle klein lives in michigan I have seen him once play he is a great player.
