It is hard to judge who is a black belt because different martial arts define black belt differently. I know that in some styles of karate it is quite hard to get a black belt and you see people teaching even with color belts. I practise Taekwon-do ITF and I am in our national team, so I am certainly not bad. And in our dojang first degree black belts are not advanced just intermediate. And when I had taekkyeon lessons in Korea I have met many people with I. dan who were training around one year and were almost beginners. (Of course every dan was then exponentially more advanced.) It does not mean that one martial art is worse than the other, I just think that comparing belts across different martial arts is a stupid metric.

@nathearn I think the reason for his humility had something to do with the girls personally. He only confessed once the other guy was out of there. I personally found it annoying. My Sensei taught us you don't stop being a martial artist when you step out of your dojo. That discipline should be carried with you in everything you do. My Sensei would be pissed at me if I represented our dojo like this.

The version of Poomsae that that Jessica performed is actually technically move for move the actual WTKD version, but it's pretty obvious that she lacks the confidence to make it look good. I've been training Tae Kwon Do for about 26 years and taught classes at a Dojo for around 6, albeit we worked a bit more complexity into our Poomsae by throwing in crescent kicks into the transition from the mountain block in to the wedging block at the two sides of the T shape. It also looks a bit less basic when you're actually performing it in a snappy fashion. That said, I do prefer Koryo (the 1st degree Black Belt Kata) over Poomsae (the 2nd degree Black Belt Kata) from a pure aesthetics perspective. It does look on its surface more technically complex.

I know clubs that have 7th dans at your age Nat, and others that take 10 years to get a black belt. Some styles are all showy about creative forms and weapons, and others are about martial competence. There is no universal standard for black belt competence. It only means anything comparing against others in your style, and even then, not really.

There are two fakes here, Keith and Adrianna. 1. What Adrianna was doing wasn't even tangetially related to Tae Kwon Do, she was basically doing bad stunt choreography especially with those screams and "smoldering" head tilt heavy breathing nonsense trying to look "intense". 2. She called an advanced poomsae a basic kid's form, not recognizing it and showing she doesn't know what the basic forms look like. 3. She was incredulous that the actual taekwondoka wouldn't know her lineage or specifc style, when it's _completely normal_ to not know which kwon you directly descend from in the art, it was designed that way. But you can also tell absolutely none of them know how to fight except Anthony by how they treated him. The ability to teach shows his ability and there is no way to demonstrate an actual combat sport by doing forms and not going live.

2:28- 2:33 I practice Kajukenbo and currently hold a Green Belt. It’s a hybrid martial art developed in 1947 in the Palama Settlement of Hawaii, combining techniques from karate (ka), jujitsu (ju), kenpo (ken), and Chinese boxing (bo). While I started five years ago, I’ve only actively trained for about a year and seven months due to a break during the pandemic and personal reasons. Since returning, I advanced from Orange to Green Belt and even competed in a tournament, earning 3rd place. Kajukenbo emphasizes adaptability, teaching you to use whatever works best in any situation. 8:29 Personally, I would have done an escrima stick demonstration combined with Pinan (kata) or showcased a mix of the Brown Belt/Black Belt concentration techniques if I were a Black Belt in Kaju

Andre called his Taekwondo school a "dojo" that's how I knew one of the frauds was him. Also, agree with your reasoning with Keith, but I picked him because while it is not odd to diversify your MA studies by studying more than one style, it is odd to do two striking styles that are super similar, typically when diversifying your studies you would do a striking and a grappling
