Hey ZigZag ! I’m Nico Gns, the guy you’ve played against three times 😁 Usually I play in Geoguessr competitions but I’m not used to Duels yet. That’s why I sometimes have completely wrong clues… Always a pleasure to play against you !

24:29 It actually says the city name it's very blurry but it does say Achinsk (which is not a small city by siberian standards). In signs like that look at the first word in the adress it's usually a city name. Very interesting episode with the tension all the way to the last round, shot out to Nico for great rivalry

"When the duels get really long, I get a lower win percentage" - Could it be that, the better your opponent, the longer the duels carry out and that's the reason you get fewer wins compared to low elo players, which you usually take care of fairly early? So no reason for being weary of longer duels, they're not causing you to win less per se. They're just an indication of a tougher opponent. :o) Keep up the good work and the interesting videos, Zig!

Also the multipliers stack up so if you get a lot of small countries and get to higher rounds, a slighlty better regionguess can ruin you.

16:26 Oh My god. De Brabantse Aap. I literally ate there like a month ago when I was in Amsterdam. I visited with my grandpa and we thought it was the most authentic looking place in the area. I knew exactly where that was the second I saw it. Absolutely crazy that you got not only amsterdam, but a place I have been to. Great video, love this series. The cafe actually has a bit of a funny story behind the name (The Brabant Ape), I dont remember all of it but it was about some ape that like grinded peoples organs or something it was so weird.
@nick12344
@nick12344 Жыл бұрын
Hey. I'm from Amsterdam myself and i decided to look up the story behind the name of the cafe. The name De Brabantse Aap refers to the monkey that belonged to an organ grinder (a street musician who plays a barrel organ). Not a monkey that grinded people's organs. But, it is indeed a crazy story. Here's the story, from the website of the cafe itself: "Somewhere at the beginning of the seventeenth century there was an organ grinder from Brabant on 't Spui in Amsterdam who had a small monkey that danced to the music and passed around with the cap to collect money. Every Saturday, by way of closure of the week, this organ man, who was soon nicknamed Brabantse Jos (meaning Jos from Brabant), went with his earned money to the Red Light District, where he invariably visited a prostitute known as Soete Neel. Year after year, this ritual took place with the enthusiasm of the monkey. With every visit, the animal-friendly Neel gave the organ man a banana for the monkey. One day, however, the organ man stood in front of an empty window and a closed door. Inquiries with the neighbors learned that Soete Neel had given up. She appeared to have regretted her dissolute life and now retired once and for all to the convent of De Bekeerde Susters. The deeply disappointed organ man cried out in heartbreak and then climbed up the Waag on what is now Nieuwmarkt. There he plunged down with an icy scream. Leaving his organ and a desperate monkey on the square. After this drama, the monkey went back to 't Spui and lived there from the goodwill of local residents and passers-by." The rest of the story is that the monkey as time went by got more and more bullied by the people from the neighbourhood and turned hostile as a reaction to that and terrorized the neighbourhood for two years, until Neel heard about the situation and went to 't Spui with some bananas and picked up the monkey and took it back with her to the convent, where the monkey spend the rest of its life.

Interesting seeing the stats. Some quick math leads to 94% winning against low rated players gaining about 40 points per 100 matches. Lots of wheel spinning even at 94% winning clip. Math based on a win being worth +2 points and a loss -25 points as seems to be the results against 800 rated players.
@Rodney.Gardner
@Rodney.Gardner Жыл бұрын
I added a stat for net points per game, and for low-rated players it is +1.6 per game......however, that is heavily skewed by early games when his rating was lower......he got +11 for beating an 893 when he was at 1008......and opponents in the 800s were still worth +5 or more for quite some time.

I was reading through the notes you had on your spreadsheet and was just wondering what triggers you use that make you think people cheat. I've noticed in some videos that you lose a couple of games in seemingly similar ways, with both opponents getting close guesses, and one you accuse of possible cheating and the other not. Always been intrigued to know why one is suspect and not the other.

I really enjoy this series, but considering what you're trying to achieve I wish you would remove the no moving handicap. You're going to have to beat some of the best duel players to move up the leaderboard, and giving yourself a handicap means that you're essentially requiring that you get lucky against the top players to win. I'm obviously only speaking for myself, but I also think it would be more informative to watch you move around to help with my own play, and since I'm rooting for you to win it's frustrating to watch you lose a duel when your opponent is able to move a block and spot a crucial clue while you're stuck at the starting spot and have no idea what other information is just around the corner. I'm curious what other viewers think.

A while back I wasn't able to play for a couple of weeks, but my wife played on my account. I started at about 910 rating and she lowered me to about 500, so I was playing almost bronze level opponents. I felt pretty bad about it, to be honest. I also felt bad about my wife's skill level.
