Can I knit a sweater within a Harry Potter moviemarathon?

Hello friends! For his birthday my husband wanted to watch the entirety of the Harry Potter series. So I thought it would be a great idea to challenge myself to knit an entire sweater over the course of these movies. I attempt to knit the Party top by Abbyeknits (Ravelry: Party Top pattern by AbbyeKnits). A cropped jumper with three quarter length sleeves, easy enough to be knit without 100% focus, but also interesting enough to knit without losing focus. I knit the sweater with some handspun yarn, spun from a Dutch spotted sheep fleece.
A few videos I recommend on the problematic writing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/habCqamOf6-ebc0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHLZlKNjmpmVhdU kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZinfJWKlNFlq9U Ok, back to the fiber shenanigans!
If you enjoy spinning, yarn, knitting, fiber arts or any other traditional craft then this channel is right up your alley. Maybe you could hit that subscribe button?

I'm fangirling so hard right now. I look forward to Wednesday's so I can watch what you've been up to. 😁 That sounds kinda stalker-ish lol. But seriously the sweater is beautiful. 😍 Thanks for sharing.

Knitting and Harry Potter feels both like home to me. And watching your video really brought some joy into my day! Alongside the well kown anger and sadness that comes up when I think about the multiple issues with Rowling and the story itself. All of this sadly made it loose the joy and spark for me, I've turned more and more away over the course of the last years. I just can't support it anymore, it hurts me and even more my loved ones. The music though, that still sticks to me and I hope I will never loose that joy :) Thanks for bringing such a light and silly mood into the video without forgetting the problems, was a perfect balance!

Thank you for your encouraging words! I think it's more important to acknowledge the hurt than to ignore that it was ever there... Harry Potter will always connect me to my childhood with my best friend, but as an adult it's only just to see the wrongs that are written in it.

i love it. the stripes look like (intentional) random striping, which gives it a rustic charm, but still way too harmonized to be a true Weasley creation.

Awesome job and the sweater came out amazing! 😍We recently watched all the Star Wars movies (let's say a marathon in stages 😅). I'm now half way through my Habitation Throw. 💪🏼✨But a sweater in a movie-marathon (or a full season of a series) sounds amazing... so that's going on the list too. But first I have to spin the yarn. 🤭 So many plans, so little time. 😆

Thank you 🥰 If you can get some, I recommend it! Though fair warning that it is not a very fine wool, I am not sensitive to the supposed scratchiness of wool, but others may find this very uncomfortable wool to use for clothing

I really like the yarn about how the sweater turned out. There is a beauty it the randomness of the colours that I really love. I agree it needs a little more length though. Are you not tempted to use up the last skein so you have none left over?

Love the sweater, love the yearn! I have a long fur cat that needs to be shaved every couple of months (medical reasons), could you make something from cat fur as you did from dog fur? I could send it to you when I get a bigger amount. (I just find it a waste to throw all that lovely fur away)

I have an allergy for cats' fur, so I'm sorry, but no I can't ☹️ but maybe you can find someone close to you? There are a lot of spinners specialised in making keepsakes from pet's fur to be Found on Google!

the sweater looks great. and we'll done for sitting through that much HP! inhave real issues with the writer and the series. I hope you remembered to weave in and cut off that little hanging yarn bit on your left side at the waist! of course, it's probably good youndidnt yet, since you want to extend the length. it is very short!

The books were a big part of my childhood and I saw all the movies when they came out but the nonsense with JK really ruined it all for me. I have a very hard time utilizing death of the author, especially when there's all those other issues you pointed out. For me, there are so many other (and BETTER) fantasy series that I'm not going back. As far as the short length goes, crop tops and cropped sweaters are so very on trend right now but I can't handle the feeling of my abdomen being cold! I've actually knitted a belly-warmer, sort of like if I was wearing only the cropped part of the sweater. I always make my sweaters longer than the pattern calls for because I need to be warm.
@MijnWolden

There are indeed so much better series, especially in book form! (Now if Patrick Rothfuss would finish the Kingkiller chronicle that would make me very happy). When you look into it, Rowling isn't even that good an author (apart from her horrible ideologies). It's mainly the nostalgia for me now, as I had very little friends growing up, so the memories of me and my best friend will always be connected to HP.

Sadly, I'm one of the people that JKR completely alienated. I read the series through at least three times through completely (I grew up with it), yet I'm sure if JKR knew me, she'd say I was secretly a misogynist for "turning against my sex" or something. (I'm transmasculine.) I try not to get too upset about other people still liking Harry Potter, because it's definitely a case of keeping a level head, seeing its flaws, and understanding that the writer is Not a Good Person, but . . . I mean I still hear people singing its/her praises and I'm just... Yeah. It sucked. Our generation sorta got gaslit by JKR and society. "These books are totally flawless and fine!" was such a train of thought that when you actually think about it, you realize how fucked those books were (as you pointed out).
@MijnWolden
@MijnWolden 2 ай бұрын
I must say that since the publication of that video and today I've got more alienated too. I still recognise that the series was important in my teenage years, and that I have a best friend because of it. But JKR has shown her true colours more, and I've made quite a bit of trans and nonbinary friends over the last two years, with whom I had amazing discussions (like, just talks, not debates) about the topic. HP no longer has its own special shelf in my bookcase. The honours are now for the Pokémon manga. And the 3D puzzled Hogwarts is back in its box. My family still keep giving my HP related gifts for celebrations and I'm finding it hard to be happy about it. (And they think I care too much about the whole topic) Last Christmas I got the HP knitting book volume 2 twice. Which was great, because my stepmom could still return the book and get me the LOTR one instead...

I loved Harry Potter books exactly because of all the “problematic writing”. The author wanted to show a world where despite all the magic all problems of our non-magical society still exist. That’s why there is poverty, abuse of power, class system (just like in UK), racism, slave labour and other not so pleasant things. Because ultimately it’s not magic that can get rid of this things, it’s the people themselves. Harry Potter is not a fairytale, it’s a description of British society. The sweater looks great though.
