Would love this. The reason that Redline and Fast Car eventually folded was because they started going motorsport / drift / stance only. The thing we all loved from the magazines back in the day was attainable aspiration. I could never afford a full spec’d time attack or drift car, but I could find a megane splitter and smooth it into my bumper! Revs was the best magazine for this home done approach and I feel that was the only magazine that would likely have still been alive today if it hadn’t been swallowed by Max Power.

PVW have just become privately owned with Jamie XO part owner. Worth looking into how they are doing it. The magazine market for cars is in a pretty bad way compared to the Max Power era but there is still nothing like going through a good car mag. Aspiring to have feature cars, the readers rides, the show reports, there definitely a place for it. The internet has diluted car content so much and changed the way we see cars but I still think having something in print is way more special. I would like to see a modified magazine covering all aspects of the modified scene, still being relatable to everyone. So, the budget builds, the garage builds as well as the company built show cars and everything in between. All models and marques, just good quality content on good quality modifieds.
@MAXERS19 күн бұрын
Exactly that! The plan would be to have around 10 feature cars with a decent number of pages each covering everything from retro cars, unusually engineered stuff (twin engines, unusual engine swaps), show cars, high power builds etc

i love this, bringing back what the car scene needs. people have run away from all types of physical media over the years and its hurt so many avenues of the industries that make content from magazines to film and music. this isn't a criticism but just a reason why I stopped buying magazines a couple of years back. i am into the classic mini scene mostly but stopped buying both of the magazines as they became thinner, more expensive and mostly adverts. i understand the adverts are important to help cover costs though.

Serious point here and one i don't think anyone mentions regarding magazines but please make the print bigger! 😅 I actually stopped a magazine subscription a few years ago because indoors under normal lighting and with my glasses on I could barely read the damn thing. 😂
@MAXERS18 күн бұрын
Ah, that's a good point. Guess fonts might be small to fit on pages - bigger fonts equals more pages and more cost at printers...

@MAXERS Bigger fonts but less words? 😁 I don't know how good your eyesight is but if you don't wear reading glasses find someone who does and see what magazines they struggle with. It’s hard to know what advice anyone could give you, it’s a tough market… in that there isn’t really currently a market there. I think the idea of bringing back a ‘max power’ style magazine is a non starter…. BUT, I like the look of those upmarket magazines you have there. I think, where years ago your target audience was 17-25, it’s mostly going to be the same audience…. Now, they are just older.35-45. Tits and ass wouldn’t make me buy a magazine now, and I Imagine you would agree. Maybe something aimed at that age group, a bit of the classic bodykit features, but some more grown up builds. Cherry pick some stuff you find at shows like players classic, Instagram and KZbin. The guy that has the page twin engined corsa does hunt out some interesting stuff, although not all of its polished enough for a magazine feature. So maybe a nicely produced magazine, grown up, higher end (something that can sit of the coffee table at work and not be embarrassed about) , ‘only’ very worthy features. Maybe quarterly. I think featuring the best of the best cars you can find, will help bring in similar features. Make it so it’s an achevement to get a car in a magazine again. I don’t think I would be overly concerned with launching it specifically with the reunion show in mind, it’s a decent idea yes, but I think it needs to take in and cater for a wider audience of car enthusiast. But really… I don’t know, I’m just spitballing.
@MAXERS18 күн бұрын
I'm of similar thinking mate. Although a touch of tits might be ok...
@pedenconceptz18 күн бұрын
@@MAXERSwell, it has to be classy. The formula ultimately failed for all these types of magazines years ago, so you need to try something new, your own creation. Also, this business of putting 7 cars on the cover. I disliked. A cover car is a cover car, it should have one car on the cover, in fact, stylistically it could look better with only one very well shot image of a small portion of that car, something to make you want to lift the magazine up and find out what’s going on.

Who owns the IP and Branding on Max power now they are no longer being published? Would be interesting to see if you can get financing to go acquire that brand, why not relaunch with the brand you like. I know companies that could potentially finance that sort of venture.
@MAXERS19 күн бұрын
Looked into that a few years back but they wanted silly money so you'd be starting from behind to begin with. Plus, perhaps Max Power is best left in its glory days and untainted by anything we do to it now?
@rcleg452219 күн бұрын
@@MAXERS I would only value the brand at mid 5 figures currently for the whole IP and TM, if they are asking for more not certain why they would hold out as your clearly the only inheritor who wants to do something with it, its worthless without energy. But I do see your logic for a a new era. I would advise using a patreon style subscription, for a basic say electronic quaterly publication, that users who are members can also upgrade to a full print copy at a premium price. Something like 9.99 monthly then additional If you want the hard copy. Rather then try hold onto customers through repeat purchase.
@MAXERS18 күн бұрын
@@rcleg4522 I guess that's why subscriptions are good. To be honest, this issue will be a pilot as I need to see if it's got enough interest and don't want to sign people up to a sub without being able to follow through with next issues. It's basically going to cost me all of my savings to produce (goodbye car parts!) so my hope is to at least break even for this one.
@rcleg452217 күн бұрын
@@MAXERS With Patreon you can shut down the sub payments anytime so I would advise setting up immediately with that method if you ever think that route works for you long time. Or you will have to go re acquire customers who already use you once then you need remind them of next and new issues. It’s all expenses that are removed by the sub model, it solves so many issues for doing things on a budget.

Performance VW is still going. I got a feature in the most recent January 2025 on page 38 which I was very happy with, because I'm of that age were I read magazine's in the 90's and 2000's and I used to dream about getting a something in a magazine. I think social media has been unhealthy for the car community. The people in the UK used to be very creative with cars. Something that has disappeared and I blame social media. If you dare to be different now some wanker is going to come across your car and photo it, post it to some FB group. A magazine might have more of a chance if it's aimed at what men our age like. Cars and women lol

Yeah, also I reckon the internet is great for seeing cars... but the amount of effort put into building them feels like they need some proper effort put back into telling people about them. Videos are ok at that, but somehow the curated version you get in a magazine just feels more special.
