Sap basis and sap security are 2 different concepts. Basis consultant work mainly on upgrade, installtion, support. Sap security consultant need to take care of all the access part like creating roles and providing tcode access etc. I worked in both so thought can comment on it :)

SAP BASIS is very interesting, especially the area of security is becoming increasingly important. If you are interested in programming, a combination of ABAP and SAP UI5 / Fiori makes sense. 🙂

Good video, I am a Basis Consultant (Basis Architect) with 17 years of experience, some people think Basis is more into network, but Basis is administration of all SAP's software products (installation, maintenance, upgrade/migration, security and high availability). SAP have a wide verity and range of Software products (ECC, S/4, PI, Solution Manager, etc) and Basis Administration is expected to administer all these products. Also SAP's products use any of the well know database (SAP HANA, Oracle, DB2 or MS SQL) as its backend database or data storage, so the basis admin should administrate, maintain, install any of these databases also, and yes you need knowledge about Networking and Operating Systems to communicate with System and Network Administrators and get your requirements fulfilled.

Security is seperated from now d days. In big projects and companies basis will only take care of basis Security team will maintain separately. In small companies basis guy will also take up security tasks.
