Spiderverse used its own inhouse trained AI to aid artists using ONLY their own work that they then only kept to use for the movies so that they could keep that comic book/stylized look they have for the movies. It helped with budget and time spent on the movie without outright replacing people. That's how it should be instead of the web-scrapped services like ChatGP, Dall-E, etc. But sadly the Spiderverse's team's example of using legal and ethical sources seems to be the minority of usage. :(

I understand why you did this, especially considering the disgusting manner which AI grifters have targeted your art and person, but please do not give OpenAI any free publicity. They're an org which has exploited workers to develop their product, stolen as much (or more) copyrighted art and works as anyone else, use a ton of resources every day to grift (360,000 gallons of water a day to cool a data center) and more. About the AI thing: there's a good chance Sam was unaware that ChatGPT steals art from writers similarly to AI image generation. It's not as spoken about, and Sam - or anyone - cannot be expected to know everything. If Sam already knew this, then he is a hypocrite as you say he is. Really? I see a lot of writers using AI art for their stories, musicians are absolutely spamming KZbin with their music that has AI generated cover images for basically a year now, turning my feed into abhorrent trash. Sam and pretty much all artists fought back initially, while these writers and musicians happily used "AI" that was trained on the artwork of visual artists in order to advertise their product and to leech off of artists. Their heads will be on the chopping block and they will deserve it. Musicians deserve it the most, and this is coming from someone who enjoys music the most as a form of art. Good riddance I say, it seems that visual artists were the only ones that cared about the other art mediums and not just their own, but they were greeted by parasitic behavior and lack of care from writers and musicians. Maybe it's because visual art just hits differently, I don't know. In any case, good riddance. No hypocrisy here, just vengeance.

ChatGPT was trained on most of the internet, and possibly millions of copyrighted books and papers, without anyone's consent. This is ok but not the image one why? Is it because the image one is the one that threatens you as an artist? All AI trained on copyrighted content without consent are bad, supporting this AI while not the image one is extremely hypocritical. If you think that doing this is ok, then go download that lora made of your style and make a video using it to "decide what to draw"?

Artists don't give a damn when other people data are taken "without consent". For instance, modern machine translation is pretty much based on data scraped from the internet all without "credit, consent or compensation" . And illustrators never cared. @@ThatsDoable I don't think you realize that when you're paying for art, you're paying for materials used, manhours, and equipment. Not to mention the time most artists spend developing their skills and knowledge. And those charges include digital art too. even if you only charge $7 per hour, most people take several hours for art and that alone would cost $140 alone. Your suggested price of $15 is 47 cents per hour for what is a job for most people. and the majority of artist are not lazy and undercharge their art. They'll sell their pieces at the price you think they should do and then get burnt out because they can't keep up with bills and keeping themselves afloat because they feel the need to attract cheapskates like you. And gotta love the defense towards AI art in these comments went Sam has specifically called out AI art multiple times in the past.
